  • LDOs are Low Drop-Out Linear regulators. But what exactly does Low Dropout mean? How well does an LDO regulate the output voltage when the input voltage is very close to the output voltage? Our tutorial video will explain the LDO dropout operation and dropout curves, and gives a practical measurement example of the RT9187 LDO close to dropout operation. Hi Roland, thanks for sharing your understanding about LDO functionality quite clearly. DO you have PSPICE models for these devices(RICHTEK - Products - Linear Regulators) which you mentioned in above explanation? Let me know your opinion.

what is the key difference between an LDO and a voltage reference (for example ATL431 or REF50)

Can I ask how many products use these ldo's? Are we talking millions? Thanks

Ive got a fussy circuit that needs 4.8V. I want to power it with 4 of NiMH AAA cells at 1.2V each but fully charged, the batteries are 1.4V each and I have 5.6V. I'd need a LDO with a drop out voltage of (at most) .8V and the thing would still stop working as soon as the batteries discharged and came closer to their nominal voltage of 4.8V. What's the solution to this problem, given A) I can only find 5V LDO regulators and B) I can't find any LDO with a drop out voltage low enough to even approach practical use in my project?:

Any luck with your circuit? What is your application? MIC2941 might work, but I would try other alternatives as most circuits can be done without the additional IC.

Please try to find appropriate ICs of AC-DC products with Parametric Search Tool on Richtek website. Thanks!
