I just replaced my fuel filter on my 1999 ford expedition with 217,000 k miles on it. I was going up a hill and it started clunk and tick, i said "oh shit im screwed" and the first thing that came to mind was the fuel filter, PROBLEM GONE! truck still runs really really well now :) thanks for the video it sure came in handy and went out and bought those special plastic removers!!
    THANKS AGAIN!!!

Very useful video, when i bought my "new" used car it too didn't have cabin air filter. If the air filter is really dirty it can cause high gas consumption, with me when i changed mine the consumption went 1l/100km down.Which is pretty nice.Kinda pays for itself :)

Got a 2001 VW Golf and have dealt with "extended crank" and fuel pump issues.
In general, the fuel pump is more likely to die (or work intermittently) than it is to get weaker. However, a weak pump (lower fuel pressure) is a good indicator that your pump doesn't have long for this world. It will usually crap out within a few weeks of showing signs of trouble.

If all else fails you can get by with a simple pre-start procedure. Cycle the key on and off slowly a couple times before actually hitting the ignition. This will prime the fuel lines and engine with more fuel than a standard startup.
To prevent premature fuel pump failure, make sure you keep the fuel tank clean and never get close to running out of gas. Seems harmless enough, but when a submerged pump runs dry, all bets are off.

Nice educational vid. How do one knows when to change filters without user's manual?

very interesting I was wondering about these fuel filters. Hope you will test the "WISH" fuel filter.

A nice tool to have when changing the fuel filter would a fuel pressure gauge. You could even purge the psi if you needed to. You forgot to mention that some fuel filter are also located inside the fuel tank too. There could be a door in the trunk or if not, you'll have lower the tank.

Ben have you considered doing an episode on replacing brake calipers and pistons? I was considering upgrading my brakes and a video on how to replace them might be helpful to me as well as other people.

Before changing the pump, change your fuel filter and check for any leaks in the fuel lines. You should already smell gas if you have a leak. Sometimes the screen on the bottom of the pump (in the tank) has debris lodged in it. You could get lucky and only have to clean this debris off (and possibly clean out the tank if it's severe).

Would be nice if you mentioned an average time for "frequently " change air filter. Great infos though. Thanks.

I have a 2008 VW Jetta 2.0T Wolfsburg DSG and in the morning I have what VW calls extended crank. This only happens after the car has been sitting a while mainly when the engine is cold. I have heard and read that VW fuel pumps are known to fail. Could it be anything else besides the fuel pump?

Would it be a good idea to wipe down the interior housing of the air cleaner box with a damp towel before poppin' in a new one?

How often should I replace my oil and fuel filters? And can I just clean my air intake filter instead of replacing it

How would you tackle doing the fuel depressurization on a car that's from the 1960's? I own this 1970 Mercedes and I genuinely have no idea how I'd tackle how to depressurize it.

May I know why does your channel blocks certain videos such as the "911 vs Boxter" video in countries like Malaysia? I really would love to watch them :(

which electric cars use air cooling for the battery and which of those have a filter for it? you're not just making it up are you? : )
generally batteries actually don't need cooling but ironically teh ambient temperature can be too high for their comfort so some kind of external fanning (requiring no filters) could be beneficial in hot climates. but I don't think any of them yet have air cooling. The Volt has glycol cooling.
do you know global warming is real? and peak oil?

if it's a 100% electric car i don't see how asking whether or not to change fuel and oil filters is even a serious question.

  • @DanFrederiksen
    @DanFrederiksen 12 років тому

It is a very serious question, the fate of the planet depends on it. But I of course know the answer. I asked it because the ignorant truck drivers need to think a little about the consequences of their chosen ignorance.

youre lucky, you dont have to drain the oil haha... if the oil gets on the engine nothing will happen, theres already oil and grease all over it.
