Had to rewatch this, stunning detail comparible to Sutton's Locomotive Workshop model 24/25.

Yeah, I was really glad I picked up this variant of the A-Class. It just has that look for the early years of diesel locos.

Another great review and I missed out one getting one of these myself. I keep an eye out for one on the second-hand market, but it is still illuding me so far. Wonderful model in the silver livery, my fave Irish livery is the Black and Tan's with the white stripe.

Great reviews on the a classes Eugene.
I hadn't the clicking issue with my one but it's good to know what the problem was.
The locomotive is very good very smooth ànd slow speed on DC couldn't be any better.
I think they are value for money and were worth the wait.
Irm have done a great job .
    Take care
    Basil.

I loved watching these majestic silver "engines " pulling the Wexford train in the early 1960s. We would run up as fast as we could to be at the railings as it passed by.
Metropolitan Vickers made them, I think.

That is lovely, it was a hard choice to pick a livery i remember running up and down by cherry orchard and 054 suited that, fit the name plates as the flying snail would good on it, great review 👍

Nice model. I am happy to see yours is okay and not missing any parts unlike my A42 which the review is scheduled for may that had a loose handrail in the box and one missing and the nearside large grill is loose in the bottom left corner. Maybe I was unlucky with that model but its put me off buying the silver one that is left because of that bad experience. Because of this and the bad quality of models from Hornby over the last two years. I have decided to give up on the UK and Irish model trains and I will go for American HO scale as the models from Athearn, Atlas, Kato, Intermountain and ScaleTrains as well as Walthers are trouble free in my experience. I don't think I am being unreasonable in asking for a decent made model train for £170 without flaws.

That's disappointing from IRM. I hope you go back to them. As you say, we have to expect good quality for £170. My review of the Class 90 will talk about why I chose not to go with the Hornby Class 91 which is partly based on recent poor experiences. H0 is a whole new world and hopefully a better one. Rgds, Eugene

I'm not far behind you James! This was my biggest outlay last year by far. You can't get too much of a good thing as they say.

Stunning model. Has to be the most horrible prototype livery I have seen. I think CIE were going for the US Burlington Zephyr style with paint rather than stainless steel/aluminum. Somehow in model form it takes on a whole other dynamic and become a kind of treasure.
