I mean, he is still the devil. I like his portrayal in the show because I imagine that's what the real devil would be like. Fancy suit, drink, women. That's how he actually is portrayed in some of the old scriptures. Like someone who simply enjoyed life, ignored god's orders, and was very aspiring(trying to claim the throne of heaven for himself). He still encourages "sin" in the show. He encourages people to enjoy sex, alcohol, drugs, etc. Yet he cannot come to terms with everyone blaming him for humanity's sins. He never told anyone to do anything. Which is true, for the most part. The choice is on us, humans, and we choose for ourselves who we want to be. Yet, he blaims himself for setting a bad example and "ruining everything he touches"(his quote), but the thing is, as a celestial who sometimes forgets how easily affected, corruptable, and fragile humans are, doesn't do anything on purpose. We see him in the show being completely oblivious to all the times he was a jerk towards people, simply because he doesn't know better. But he evolves around Chloe, Linda and others, he learns to care, to be accepting and somewhat humble. I really love Lucifer for what he is. And yes, he still punishes people, not because his dad made him do it, as he thought, but it is established at some point that he actually hates "evildoers". He's a guy who promotes freedom, and murderers are taking away other people's freedom to live out their lives. He hates sinners. Which is why God sent him to do what he did, to rule on his own and do what he's good at.
