Oh agony of the feet! Wooly put your boots back on before Bruno passes out😂😅😂😅! Those boots wear like iron! And will last several more! I had several pair, including full leather combat boots
Coming from a US Marine, most of the guys hate these boots, but not me, I love them. Most of my friends say they’re ugly, heavy, and overly bulky, and while I’ll concede on the looks I far prefer a tough as bricks design over the popular lightweight boots like the reckonings, I’ve never seen rats wear out, replace the tread and you could wear these for a very long time, the stitching is incredible, they’re thick, I’ve put them through the ringer with almost no maintenance and they’ve held up phenomenally.
I just got a brand new pair of these from a friend of mine who’s a marine and I haven’t really walked in them yet but just having them on and walking maybe 20 yards in them feels already better than the surplus boots I’ve had for 6 years
These are great for forestry work, hiking, camping. Not so great if you are going to be kicking concrete rubble all day every day. I highly recommend keeping them paper stuffed when not in use. I also recommend a good beeswax treatment. Give them a good saddle soap wash every once in a while. Brush off the mud and dust at the end of the day.
Thanks. Was considering these to put in my work boot rotation with my red wing 606’s. I’m on my feet all day walking kicking around concrete. Are these boots comfortable?
Hello from America, any dubbin you would use on full grain leather for conditioning and waterproofing can be used on nubuck leather, although it will change the appearance.
Summer wear for past 12. Years brasher. Supalite gortex. And leather lining. Berghaus for winter 8. Years old no gortex lining. For cold wet weather iturri. High. Leg. Gortex and sinthalite lined Norway issue s p f boots heavy. But supper comfortable 💥
They run narrow if anything, i have 3 pairs (price was right 55 dollars a pair) i wear a size 10 US in 90% of shoes, but the 9.5 wide RAT boots fit me perfect. Try to get the danner brand, by far the best. Also i have 2 pair of the temperate version, and 1 pair of the cold weather and i don't really notice a difference. @stevesweeney7892

I always wear 12 but with these seems smaller, maybe i could adapt to them after break in, really lost though as if to try a 12 wide or 12.5 regular if i dont keep them, when i pull the insole out and place my foot over it i got just about an inch from big toe, smidge less, when i look down,my foot does seem slightly wider in a spot than tbe outsole at the wide part of foot but i do have narrowish feet. I just picked up a new pair from the Army Navy Surplus. $90 dollars compared to Danner who still want $410 for a pair. Recraftable and resoleable by Danner is pretty nice too. They will go into rotation with my Nicks Builder Pro's for work.
Hello! Thank you for your video! It is nice to listen to you, you have a beautiful and loyal dog, I wanted to ask a question, if possible, what year are your boots? How do they feel now? Are there any problems with the inner lining, since I had a problem with the original DANNER USMC RAT HOT WEATHER 2011 model. As I understand it, due to the fact that they were lying in a warehouse for more than 13 years, while on the outside everything was fine, on the inside, the inner lining made of soft material, possibly foam rubber, began to crumble and the glue no longer held it, the foam rubber inside in the heel area turned into lumps, which subsequently rubbed my feet. I adore this model, these boots, but I think you should buy a Gore Tex model, since it has a different lining material. Once again, thanks for your interesting content!) Therefore, I wanted to clarify whether there were any problems of this nature, and how does the Gore Tex lining behave after several years of use and what year is your model? I wish you only the best, take care of yourself!
You made me buy a pair 10.5 W , Made in Oregon , the Hot weather no vent Water Proof .......not a FLAW IN THEM , I got them NEW ! for $65.00 USD . they sell for $350.00 USD . I use 100% NEATSFOOT oil to preserve the boots .
got issued these for afghanistan in 2009. we thought they were ugly and we were not allowed to wear them state side at the time bc of how they looked. so mine had plenty of life left. they are very tough. wore my afghan ones today at construction. i bought a back up pair for the woods and am about to grab another pair for construction. need to retire my originals. they are great in mud/swamp. not bad in the snow and ice but i stop wearing them around 20 degrees F. bc i can't fit a second pair of wool socks in them. the wide footprint makes them very stable. a bit heavy and a bit hot. they breathe enough but nothing special. the heal is higher and can really dig in to the ground if needed.i oil them heavily maybe twice a year and no water gets in after 15 years. for the price they are the best deal i have found on a heavy duty boot. its a 200$+ boot selling for 80-90$ from what I've seen.
On my second pair of these, 1st pair lasted almost 14 months then the right side started clicking when walking, im thinking the shank broke somewhere in the heel which sucks because the boots themselves are great.. never popped a stitch, never tore never separated anywhere but that clicking got very loud when walking on solid surfaces. lmao probably shouldn't have used them in my landscaping job 😂
Have you ever tried Altbrrg boots? Made in England and not that expensive. They will repair and make to measure. They do a range of game keeper boots as well as supply the British military. Good quality
The Aqua Sneaker is a good, lightweight, waterproof boot. I have the gen2 from what I've heard the gen1 was a little more comfortable. I absolutely cannot find a pair. Still, the gen2 are great boots - very athletic for 10in military boots.
Ya I’d hate to break it to ya but theirs a reason marines hate these boots. I was a test dummy for the trialing of those boots when I was in boot camp. I’ll tell you they didn’t hold up for shit. Basically our whole company had to get new boots half way through training mainly because of the tread on the heel giving out from constant marching. My heels used to be so bloody after a ruck. Basically these boots were so uncomfortable I omost had to drop back a week to let my feet heal. First thing I did after boot camp was throw those bastereds away and buy a good pair of bates lights. Most men did the same. About 6months after that they stopped giving marines these boots in boot camp. But you can still buy and wear them in uniform
That's interesting, definitely the danners not some other brand of the same boot? Hope I don't have the same issue in them, you guys must have been doing some serious miles
I’m sure those are the wellcos you’re talking about. I had both when I was in. Went through 3 wellcos and still have the same danners. The wellcos dug into the heel and gave me all kinds of blisters and the sole always separated. The bates lites to me were only good for the CFT and garrison wear.
Hey brother lol the problem with the test run for boot camp was the officers not thinking. The boots are not made to match in step on cement. They’re made to hike off road. I wore green jungles all the way to rats. Plus, if they were Bates? Idk 🤷 some of my friends liked them, but I got a pair for Mohave viper, and they didn’t last have way. Meanwhile I’ve been out for years, and I’m hiking the world in my st danner rats.
Yah man a short list of boots survive boot camp. These RAT are great for hiking, camping and forestry. I wouldn't wear these for basic training. I'd wear something lighter and faster.
I have the same boots. How do you treat the leather under the polyurethane cap and heel. Is there a way to get conditioner into that leather through the polyurethane.
Nice Review.. Do you use natural beeswax conditioner? If not do you think beeswax would be beneficial to the nubuck? I would actually not care if they get significantly darker
Not issued anymore, but I believe they can still be worn because they’re within regulation. You just have to buy them yourself, make sure it’s the right weather model tho
I believe they've been discontinued so you can only get the old stock. The MEB is essentially the RAT 2.0. I think it won't be long before all the RATs are gone.
@@TechArtAlex Yeah. I got me a pair of MEBs winter, I will be buying the steel toes and Hot weathers. The reckonings are good too. But I like the aesthetic of the RAT, plus you can find them for $80 on the internet now. I stocked up on them 2 temperate and 2 hot.
@RedBranchBushcraft been using Danner for 20 years , the orginal Trophy were sublime. Then they started short cutting, cheap spray on finish on the leather and cheaper components they are no where near the same quality as they were , but of course can be said for many boot brands including Lhndhags since they moved to Portugal production I've a new pair of danner trophy for sale for 350 euros if interested sz8 .
