The "360*" feature is for pivoting on the balls of your feet while shooting. We were issued these in iraq, they are awesome. Most boots grind on the cement when you pivot while shooting. These were specifically designed for pivoting while shooting.
I am breaking in a pair right now.....finally took them out of the box last week....bought them a year ago....... very comfortable.... I finally wore out my 1960's issue(resoled 3 times)..... and you are correct about the width..... I wear 13w and also I have problems with arches.... these are very comfortable
Excellent boot for bushcraft in forests. Basic tromping off trail. Keep em waxed in wet. They will last long time on bushcraft feet. They do stay dry in streams and wet forest under reasonable conditions.
I got a pair of those same Belleville USMC boots and they are 13 years old, I resoled them once! Still holding up!! I barely bought the rats boots too!
@@OverlandTT well with any boots since they run bigger, you always gotta go a size smaller.. for example I wear a size 10/43 in shoes, in boots I wear a size 9/42
I went these boots daily for forestry work. Extremely hard on boots. They are not Italian mountaineering boots. They won't last you 20 years. The soles by design are soft and will wear in a year of daily wear. The stitching on the sidewalls of boot will wear quickly in abrasive activity. USMC reports many early stitching failures in combat environments. I have redone my wall stitching twice in 6 months on both boots. I do winter ponderosa forest removals in deep snow with these boots. If you keep moving the feet will be warm but when you stop have a plan. They are not daily snow boots. But they stay relatively dry if you keep them waxed. Goretex is a blessing and a curse. I'd rather have a full leather with synthetic liner and light insulation with awesome wool socks. Not PTFE membrane, real boots need to breathe. I wear a poly liner and thick wool sock daily. Proper socks is most of the boot experience. GBA 🦅
Danner has a set of Marine Expeditionary Boots that I want to get my feet in. We don't get much snow at all here, so I think they'd fit the bill for me. You are getting the work done! Twice stitching in 6 months on both boots!
My issue with these is that walking on a tile floor while your shoes are wet is like ice skating on roller skates I know that's very specific but alot of barracks have tile flooring and there are many reasons your shoes may get wet Also I spent a majority of my childhood and teens barefooted so I have very wide feet... but my feet are also not that long so they do close in on my toes but it's not that bad
Nice looking boots all right. I think the boots are breaking your feet in rather than the other way around. Made in USA? Barge cement would do a good job gluing those soles back on your old comfy boots. I like the Bellevilles. I know they're made here.
Yes sir, made in the USA and Berry Compliant. I think they are being phased out and replaced with expeditionary boots. I'll be ordering the Barge Cement and some new soles soon to repair those old boots. I DO love my Bellevilles!
These are sweet boots ive had a pair for a year and they are still going good so far. Hiwever i still prefere the old style of jungle boot by wellco, and they are only 40 bucks lol
Someone gave me a pair of Zamberlan boots for free a couple of years ago, because they were too big for that guy. They fit me perfectly and I had never heard of that brand but when I saw they had Vibram soles and a Goretex inner, I figured they must be decent. I never had to break them in, they were comfortable from day one. I got curious and looked them up on Google and the price they were going for was $375, I couldn't believe it lol, I got them for free. Two years later and they're still in perfect condition. I would highly recommend a pair to anyone. Anyways, those RAT boots look awesome, I need a good hot weather boot, I was looking at the Salomon boot models, but these look great, especially if they are a decent price.
I've never had a pair of Zamberlan, but, I've heard they are good to go! If you can find the RAT boots (especially at or below 100$) I highly recommend them! Is there a particular model of Salomon that has caught your eye?
I wore out a pair of the Gore Tex Rats, and just became aware of their resole program, so I will be sending them in. In the meantime, I'm breaking in a pair of hot weather rats just now
Im active duty and wore the reckonings through a month of training including rucking and such stuff. The Reckonings are a comfortable, lightweight, breathable boot that handles everything very well. Only downside vs the RAT is durability and hiking support.
Do you normally wear just a 12, i was gifted these. I normally wear a 12 but these feel like perhaps they could be to cramped in the toe, feel big toe has not much space its no "really" hitting the end, maybe ide get used to the, they are 12 R. Was told i have a narrow foot but maybe a 12 W instead of 12.5 R. I dont know, any hunches, i think i like ny boots to fit lik you in the toebox
No, at least not yet. I've walked the same distance wearing these boots across tall and wet grass as I have my Belleville 550's (toes would get wet) without issue in these boots. The pvc coated leather on the toe really keeps that down to a minimum.
@@robertsbushcraft Thanks for the reply, some reason my UA-cam never notified me of the reply till today & I already purchased both. I'm glad I did anyway. Actually, I'm sad there discontinuing these well made boots for cheap crap glued together crap like you see at Walmart. I'll never buy those glued on soles. After these are worn I'll be switching to something with a sewn sole. I can not imagine why crybabies are claiming these are heavy as they are not heavy at all compared to many boots. They are average weight for a boot. Are they light as a pair of Nike tennis shoes? No, & I'm glad causa you can't make boots that light and this durable. Boots gotta be durable. Sorry to see Danner trying to go that route with these boots. They should continue the rat for a couple more years and watch the dummies switch back after the others start to fail.
Been wearing these for a year straight. Honestly I don’t like them a whole lot besides them being relatively comfortable. Real heavy for rucks, and the material is so thick your feet get hot fast. There’s better danners than the RATs. I personally prefer the Danners Tropical Coyote Hot Boot. Great review nonetheless.

Investigating getting a new pair of boots and found this video. Had to watch. Lol I've been wearing a pair almost daily for around 4 years. No issues with anything. Only a small stain on the leather just behind my left big toe because I ride motorcycle. The abrasion panels may have a few scratches but they do an excellent job protecting the rest of the boot. No failures in construction or materials anywhere. Only reason I'm considering buying another pair of boots is boredom after 4 years. They just won't die. Truthfully they are the best boots I've ever owned.

I agree! I tried to state it clearly, but in case I did not, these boots fit true to size! And they look good :)
Any idea how these RATs size up compared to Belleville?
I like the drain holes for tactical water crossings, plus good for cooling off the dogs on a route step hump/puddle jumps. 1/1 FMF, FTS! ✌️
Right on, World Weary!
I had some USMC Bates and I loved em
I like the vintage ww1 look of the rat
Looks like a trench boot I may have some RATS in my future
My Bates are solid boots! Dad prefers his Belleville's over any other, but we both do love the Danner RATS.

Dan, did you get the same size in the hot weather RATs as the Goretex RATs? Do you need to size down from the Goretex-lined boots?
