Thank you so much for this video! I have the car and my sunroof would not close this morning. I watched this and learned how to close it. Thank you for posting the part number as well, I am going to hunt for this part. Have a great day!
If you can't get Slide button to work, first disconnect battery cable (1 hour for me) to reset computer, then try the reset sequence from the manual (Tilt button hold for >10s). That's what finally worked for me.
Thank you for this. I did a manual close and ordered new assembly because the actual plastic on the switches broke. After installing new assembly, I couldn't get the reset to work but I did it your way and it is perfect!
Thank you for this. Recently bought this model for our son's first car and needed to replace this piece. Saved me a lot of time and headaches, I'm sure.
Thanks for posting. Way quicker than trying to figure out how to remove it myself! My sunroof DID get stuck open, but I tore into the switch a little more and figured out how to actuate it with a paper clip bent into a "U" (I wore a rubber glove while doing so). Now I can drive without worries while waiting for the new assembly to be delivered.
Thanks for this post is was very helpful. My plastic tabs were so brittle that some pieces of my old unit cracked on the edges before I could disengage the unit to replace it with the new one. At any rate, thanks again.
Great Video! Thank you very Much.. I’m trying to find the Blue accent light bulb replacement but can’t find the part number anywhere.. would you happen to know what it is just for the LED in the middle (the black part)? Much appreciated
Mine just broke and I managed to replace it but the tabs are a pain in the ass to keep open while we work one by one to pull the assembly out. Once it is done just be careful with the connectors tab and it is easy. If like me, you find the tabs a pain grab a couple of medium sized zip-ties and cut them in half inserting them between each of the tabs and their holding tips and the assembly will slide out easily.
Hello mine it doesnt wanna open i dont know what is a problem. Some say it a sunroof motor some it can be a switch. So i just wanna know that how can i know if its a motor or switch
Hi Im seeking some help. My mazda 3 BL i only has the lighting unit, not the sunglasses one. Is it possible to get the sunglasses compartment part online and install it? Would it fit?
Thanks for your time making this video, my sunroof buttons don't work and I've found the map lamp unit to have very brittle plastic. Not sure how your sunroof button works as it didn't show any electrical connections, does your sunroof buttons work on the sunroof?
Thanks Clutch ! How is your Cargo? I have the exact same Mazda 3 as you do so cool that you gave us the specs. Is it gunmetal grey metallic? I have just over 70,000 miles on mine.
Does the sunroof motor have internal switches , I had to close mine manually , I installed the new switch panel and now won't open , do I need to open it manually back to where it was ?
My mechanic strongly advised to get the sunroof in original position when the problem occurred. Also...you need to hold the TILT button for about 10 seconds before the slide process works.
What finally worked for me to restore slide button was disconnecting the battery for an hour, and then going through the reset procedure (Tilt button for >10sec). The reset procedure by itself didn't work without the battery disconnect.
Hey dude! great video! quick question, my little blue light burnt out and i’m having trouble finding a replacement piece. do you know what it’s called or the part #? it’s the little piece that you took from your old lights and put into the new lights. thanks!!
Mine burnt out a while ago. If you’re handy with a soldering iron, it’s just a blue LED, I think it was 3mm diameter. I had a red one laying around and replaced it: Desoldered the old one, and soldered the new one in. These can be found many places like digikey, or sparkfun. Fun little project to do and now my shifter has a red tint to it :)
This isn't a review video. I encourage you to watch the video and listen to what I'm saying in it because I explain how to remove it and point to specific places on the part so you can see how to do it.
@@miata350 What happens is that I have a 2010 mazda 3 Grand touring and my sunroof switches are ruined, and here in Guatemala spare parts are scarce and expensive, that's why I want to see if this part can still be repaired. Thank you
Yes it would, but to take it out you need to clearly see the plastic tabs and I felt that I could better show them this way. The tabs are the only thing that hold it in.
Excellent video just a pity you did not do it right from the moment you removed the component until the new one was installed, it could have been clearer
@@miata350 thank you so much for the video. I appreciate the fact that you decided to make it, (even if it was an afterthought), because you didn't have to share your knowledge with us at all. Without your assistance, we would have had to tape some plastic over the huge hole in the roof. ✌️😎👍

thank you so much for a straightforward and clear video 🙏
Thank you this and the other video showing how to manually close the roof. Huge life saver.
How do you take it off
Dude. You videos were soooo much help! Thank you!!
Thanks for this video! I had to fight with it a little but took about 10 minutes.
I had this exact same failure in my '11 (and also own an '05 Miata btw!). Great video, really helpful, especially including the blue light transfer.
Good evening.
please tell me how the plastic is pulled out, the video shows how to insert it back.
Im saying, he said he showed us how to take it off in this video but it was already off

Yeah you can see mine was brittle too and broke after I had it out. If you're replacing it I'd go ahead and break it if you must, to take it out.

I'm sure you can, but I don't know the part number. If you call a Mazda dealership they can look it up.
What is the small blue light, what is it called what’s a part number I’m looking for a replacement/different color

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEARTS! (plural on purpose)
How can I figure out what part number I have in my car?
Is it possible to replace just one lightbulb in this unit, or does the entire unit need to be replaced if a bulb burns out?
Yes you can just replace the bulbs, and you can get them on Amazon.
Thanks Clutch ! How is your Cargo? I have the exact same Mazda 3 as you do so cool that you gave us the specs. Is it gunmetal grey metallic? I have just over 70,000 miles on mine.

do you still have your old unit? I am in need of the map light buttons.
I don't, but I bet you can find one at a junk yard or on ebay. I wouldn't pay much for a used one though because the new one is pretty cheap.

What was not mentioned was that "J-hook" tool is required to remove the 2 wire harnesses. Pretty pretty pretty important.
It's obviously NOT required to remove the wire connectors. As he did it without the tool. So not very important
