I agree with Stephen that the Rus are an excellent and often under respresented faction on the tournament scene. My theory as why that is the case is that most tournaments have a lot of objective based scenario's. The quicker factions, and those that can activate multiple units with one dice have a distinct advantage in those situations over the slower Rus. But if the scenario(s) are more like meeting engagements (Clash, or the objectives can't be moved and run away with) then the Rus can show their strengths. I feel it is one of the underwriting factors that impact on "faction rank" - the scenario's played, and the admission of mercs. If the scenario's are meeting engagements and mercs aren't allowed you'd struggle to find a better faction - imo.
Great review guys, for the Rus I prefer as a Mercenary unit to take the Scouts with Javelins, run them up front in plenty of space and maintain them with The Long Winter and Blizzard, nobody can catch them for Melee or shoot them. Perfect unit to add to the Rus list.
Hi J! The ability specifies you have to be within M at the start of the charge or shooting attack. The javelin shooting attack is a separate activation from the movement that preceded it so Long Winter provides no additional protection, unfortunately!
It’s definitely ‘roose.’ I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it ‘russ’-that’s weird! I don’t speak Russian, but can read a bit of Old Church Slavonic and have spent a lot of time around Slavs from various places.
Stephen is a great guest. Very engaging and great personality. Get him back on!
Will do!

Interesting take! The Rus can have trouble taking the fight to the enemy for sure.

Great tip Andy! That does seem to complement the Rus board nicely!

Any chance for an updated video for Pagan Rus?
Not likely. Not much has changed since this came out.
Sorry guys but I don’t think you’re reading Long Winter right. Javelins are totally affected....unless they start the turn M or less away
