  • Vemork Power Plant has a special place in Norwegian history for several reasons. It was, when it opened in 1911, the world´s largest power plant, but it also played a main role in the most famous sabotage operation in Norway during World War 2, stopping the Germans from getting heavy water to produce the atomic bomb. Today it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Center in Rjukan.

Learned of this history just several days ago while watching a random video of WWII history stories unknown. This was a huge "WWII story of heroism" that the world needs to learn about! I can't imagine if the operation wasn't successful, "we" would probably not have been here today!

There's more to the Nazis not having been able to build a nuclear weapon.
      1. They despised nuclear physics as Jewish science because many nuclear scientists at that time were Jewish.
      2. Hitler underestimated nuclear weapons. What could a nuclear weapon do what a large enough amount of conventional bombs could not do ?
So they did not begin to invest time and manpower into nuclear weapons until defeat was obvious. By that time it was too late to get the necessary ressources.
