  • Sometimes things just don't work out. That was my experience with CREAVE Blemish Control Cleanser. Rather than reducing breakouts it created them. HOWEVER just because something didn't work for me doesn't to mean it won't be beneficial for you. If you have used this and found it great, let me know! The same if it was negative. I use this and despite very sensitive skin I never had any issues. My skin loves it and I've had lots of issues on the past with cleansers. I have to say that you should always shake this cleanser before using it, which to me indicates that some ingredients can deposit in the bottom of the flask and that might increase the risk of irritation.

We just don't know all that is in a product. Frankly, I would like tonus only European products or American products that declare that they submit to EU standards. And still there is so much unknown. I just saw a inheritance youtuber say it was sy.... acid that was too strong and making the break out worse. Then there is the whole plastic leaching into the products and altering the chemical state of the product. Plastic comes from petroleum products. Also many of the skin care, make up and medicines should never be stored in the bathroom. I bring mine to the bathroom in a dorm caddy. I think the FDA has only banned 11 ingredients whereas the EU has banned 1200 ingredients. If I'm in a hurry and need it NOW then I grab NO. 7 products (you can find them in Walgreens)

Get a prescription go for Metronidazole gel. My husband and I both developed rosacea in our 50s and the dermatologist gave us a prescription for it. It cleared up the redness and the pimples in no time. We continue to use it whenever our faces seems to be getting red again. Azelaic acid might help the redness but I don’t think it will work for the pimples that may also develop. You might try some mild products developed for babies if your skin is super sensitive to things in face wash. Good luck.

Narrowing down the cause of skin issues is incredibly difficult because so many other factors play a role aside from the ingredients in what we put on our skin. For an excellent cleanser, (repaying your kindness I hope), *Cetaphil is Amazing, with ONE major Point of Attention: The DAILY Cleanser,* (which is CLEAR in color), is *FANTASTIC and FABULOUS* based on Many people’s experience, (Including *Myself and People with: Psoriasis, Crohn’s, Acne, Sensitive Skin, and Those spending a Fortune on Dermatologist visits and Mega Antibiotics, ALL of whom saw Major improvements in their Skin and Breakouts), BUT, (and it’s a Big But), the Similarly Packaged Cetaphil that’s WHITE-ish in color and Does NOT require WATER is Awful! Do NOT confuse the two!* 😉 CLEAR Colored “DAILY CLEANSER” is the Winner! Hopefully this helps.

I love this. “Dermatologist recommended” is such a thrown out there term! If you listen to dermatologists they do recommend things but it’s usually with a bunch of caveats for different conditions and cases when they would say-don’t use it! CeraVe products never worked for me until after menopause. Now I am currently enjoying one of their sunscreens and my skin can handle the thickness! Personally, I find cleansers with saylicic acid to be too stripping for me, even during the teen years.

I was a medical aesthetician for 22 years. My opinion is that your skin type is super sensitive to salicylic acid. Looks like your skin got over dry, turned red with minor pustules. Your upper cheeks have little tissue to have enough sebum to create acne. You r so right it's so important to choose skin care products meant for your skin type. Your skin loves hydration ie, hyaluronic serum, vitamin C, peptides.

Salicylic Acid when you're on Tretinoin has to be used carefully and sparingly. The brand isn't to blame... you're overworking your skin.
I use it only every 3rd morning after applying my retinoid every night, and it's really lovely. But if I use an SA cleanser too often or in the evening before I apply my retinoid I get these exact breakouts.

Thank you so much for posting this video, Wayne! Right before I saw it I literally just said to my partner: “it’s so strange but all of a sudden I’m getting pimples again!”. And coincidentally just a few days ago had just started using a new product on my skin: “CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser.” I haven’t had breakouts in many years, and I’ve also been using CeraVe moisturizers for many years with good success. Thank you for alerting me to this possible reason for my new mysterious breakout!

I tried Cerave years ago and it gave me cystic acne. It was surprising for a product that is so highly recommended for sensitive skin. It caused me problems and irritation as well. Many cleansers caused my skin to react. It took me many years to find a product line that worked for my skin and didn’t cause adverse reactions. I began using an organic skincare line called Eminence Organic Skincare about a year ago and have never looked back. I am now 46 years old and it took nearly 30 years for me to find a cleanser that agreed with my skin.

I accidentally came across this video and it saved my skin. I started using CeraVe during the pandemic lockdown. After about a couple of weeks, I noticed a rash in various places on my face. I thought CeraVe's SA cleaner was too harsh for my face so I switched to their foaming cleanser. I was still breaking out and then I saw your video. I've since stopped using CeraVe altogether and haven't had a breakout since. CeraVe is a strong cleaner that works for others but it's not for me.

I soooo relate. My skin never had any issues but 3 years back I decided to get a skin care routine due to a few black heads on my nose . The 1st thing I got was a cosrx low pH cleanser along with a lactic acid toner after which I started breaking out ... Initially thought my skin was "purging" after which I guessed that I maybe sensetive to lactic acid..this started a cycle of trying product after product to target the breakouts which refused to settle down. I never imagined that the cleanser could be responsible and only managed to figure it out after more than a year of trying everything else 😂

I am 62 with normal to still slightly oily skin, no wrinkles and very few, very light lines. I use the gentle lotion form of CeraVe, and sometimes the gentle foaming cleanser in the summer, with my Flawless cleansing tool. The lotion CeraVe cleanser cleans my face without stripping or making it feel tight. I’ve been using this one for about four years now, and am very happy with it. I also use a rose and glycerin facial toner from Heritage Store (or Heritage House, I forget), their Rose Water and Hyaluronic Acid facial mist, and serums from The Ordinary, and I’ve had such good luck with my skin care routine. Plus, I use Differen about 2 to 3 nights a week. CeraVe also has a retinol serum that I sometimes use when I’m out of Differen, and I like CeraVe’s tinted sunscreen. I’m so sorry that the CeraVe cleanser didn’t work out for you, Wayne. Maybe try a sample size of the lotion cleanser?

This is a great video and its important to realize that a bad product for one person is the best product for someone else. I'm an esthetician and cannot stress how unique everybody is. I have a client who can take the strongest acids for exfoliation without issue but broke out at home using a gentle cleanser designed for sensitive skin. Some people cannot tolerate anything with fragrance, some people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, a lot of people misuse products. Also, skin can change in terms of tolerance as we age!

I can use the cleaner for a quick clean off at work if my makeup is bothering me. I cannot use it every day either. Irritated my rosacea. I use Cetaphil, Dove Sensitive bar, one of my other tried & true cleansers or my Touch of Mink cleansers. Depending on the time if year is what I use. I'm mostly dry, but in the summer it get to be normal to dry.

Salicylic acid cleansers on dry skin can dry you out even more and may create more issues with your skin (irritation, redness, increased breakouts). Switch to a gentle cleanser and save the SA cleanser to 2 or 3 times a week. As an Aesthetician, I always prefer my clients use gentle cleansers and then use serums as correctives and preventatives.
