hi hello this video is a big ol' mess and YUPPP, but this week threw me for a loop and this video sounded a lot better of an idea in my head but AHWELL, they can't all be winners lol. Frodo is doing really well btw, as you can see, he's back to normal! (For those of you who didn't see, he had a mild focal seizure on Monday and scared the heck out of me, but vet said as long as it's not reoccurring, not to worry) But anyways I promise my next video will be more interesting lol.
My mums white Alsatian has epilepsy and had many seizures despite medication, but he was a happy bowwow who lived a long and love filled life. It’s scary as hell when it’s your baby (furry too) because my son had 7 febrile convulsions as a child until his last at age 7. It’s terrifying to be so unable to do anything to stop it. But you get there. Sending all the love and hopes for it just being a one off session. Big hugs for Frodo too.
First I huggggg your puppy and two I think if you added yellow to the orange you would get the color you wanted, personally I have been using Arctic Fox for years on virgin hair to make it purple (purple rain) it stays longer than must semi permanent dyes and fades nice not patchy, I say give it another go hon also personally I liked your video I am sure you helped someone love from Boston xoxo

Ok update: I added a little purple to the sunset orange I had to get a dark copper or natural looking copper HOWEVER you really need the yellow to tone down the red tremendously because my hair looks like hers.. maybe I didn’t add enough purple? But to be safe buy yellow. I couldn’t find any where I went so 💁🏻♀️
@@msevfreak23 I just ran two experiments with the yellow, orange & purple and one with just the orange & purple and you're right, you definitely need to put that yellow in, or it comes out more mahogany rather than orange-red

Senpais favorite But I use this brand so it won't damage my hair, dirty blonde here, lightening my hair would make no sense and damage the heck out of it. Arctic Fox is all about mixing colors to get the shade you want. Otherwise, thanks for the suggestion.
I’ve been exploring the world of Arctic Fox myself, and I think the color you got is pretty accurate relative to the starting shade of your hair. I’m not sure if they had this 5 months ago, but now they have an interesting chart on their website for each of the colors, exhibiting how vibrant each color will look depending on your current color since it doesn’t have developer in it. Ie: I’d end up with the same color you got because I have a medium colored hair naturally. It’s a really useful chart. I went there to start choosing some color options to create a soft pastel sort of mix after bleaching my hair, but one of those purples they have would look absolutely freakin gorgeous and almost a royal/violet shade if I just do that and don’t bleach my hair.
So hi I work at a beauty supply store so I thought I'd answer some of your curiosities. The reason it asks you to wash your hair is because semi-permanent dyes basically sit on top of your hair so if it's freshly washed it'll catch the hair better and more evenly. When I dyed my hair blue with punky color it asked for the same thing. As for the reason it hardly did anything to your roots is because it doesn't have any sort of developer and therefore didn't lighten your roots at all. If I had to guess the box dye you usually use has such a thing so that's why it does color your roots vs. semi-permanent and henna dyes. I'm not an expert hair scientist but this is my understanding from what I've learned at work so TADA. Also I think the color looks very pretty on you but I understand the feel of "this was not the color I wanted"
I love how your hair turned out! I also have been noticing less available red box dyes at my local drug stores in California, maybe its a dying trend in hair coloring? I just dyed my hair to a similar red from a Garnier box, and I'll have to try the cling wrap next time. Normally I use an old plastic shopping bag and clip the excess around a bun at the base of my head after combing the dye through. I find it's a great way to use up shopping bags since we have to pay 25 cents for them here, not sure if your stores banned them on the east coast yet though.
A little reassurance from a hairdresser: -henna and box colour won't break your hair (notdamaging enough) , the reason they say not to mix them is the colour result isn't predictable, they don't mix well together and can have some weird colour results. -one part products are just a stain, they will fade but chemically they remain on the hair. They will cover lighter than itself but the darker base the less effect they will have. hope that helps as a guide for the future.
Well I don't know about everyone else, but I like your hair dye videos. That's actually how I found your channel two years ago! Even if it's a bit of a fail, you make it entertaining :) I suggest cosplaying up a storm while the red lasts!
I’ve had this issue so many times with this dye! I found the best thing to do was to dilute it with conditioner and even add a bit of yellow to simmer down the red. The yellow isn’t necessary but diluting it is one of the easiest options because it’s so vibrant ! You look great none the less ❤️
I, for one, L O V E this content. Next time, go to Sally Beauty Supply and try out the hair color options there! You typically buy the dye and developer separately, but I think they have many, many redhead options for you!
Only Rachel is looking mainly for cruelty free options. I know Whole Foods does sell cruelty free hair dye. The brand is Naturtint, and it is vegan. Naturtint is also available at Walmart. Link to the Naturtint website: www.naturtintusa.com
This was my exact reaction when I color my hair with this color. It was too red. Not enough orange. I was going for a pumpkin color and I got a red-orange. And as soon as it started fading a lot, I liked it more. Next time try diluting it with white conditioner
I know you commented this a long while ago but I just wanted to pop in to say I got a great pumpkin orange by mixing in arctic fox cosmic yellow with sunset orange😁💕 so I highly recommend that!
very late lol but same ;3; i wish i had watched this video again before dying (retouching) my hair lol. it was flaming hot cheeto red instead of the natural rich ginger i was going for. now it’s faded out and it’s fine but i still need to add orange back in. it’s been a journey
So I have a fun old lady tip, I got from my gigi: most grocery stores sell these 'dish covers' that are like disposable shower caps. They are made to cover food, so are in the food section, and come in multiple sizes. The big ones do great as a dye cap for semi permanent and natural dyes; never tried a harsher dye (like bleach), though. I struggle trying to get serran wrap on my head; it just never works out for me. And ruined my real shower cap once. Never again....
That's a good tip I wonder if we have those in England, also if your thinking of bleaching your hair be wary I almost lost my hair because of doing that when I was 18 not trying to put you off just be careful with it.
Also the dollar stores do sell the actual plastic disposable shower caps that you described. And they come in a nice big pack too. I buy these and use them in the shower, until the rubber is to stretched out to fit on my head.
Well my love if you’re going for Haley Williams circa misery business hair do I have some new for you. Haley has her own hair color brand called ‘Good Dye Young’ !
I actually love that color. Thank you so much for trying it out and sharing with us. I wasn't too sure if this color had the perfect copper red tone I was looking for, thinking it was too orange, but nope... it is actually the perfect ratio I am looking for in a semi-dye to keep my hair vibrant color in between permanent treatments. Thank you again.
The best coppery-gingery red I've ever gotten from a dye is a mix of Wella's titian red with red red, the only downside was that it took maybe one or two washes for it to fade pretty drastically. Sally Beauty does carry a conditioner that's supposed to be kind of like a dupe for overtone that kinda boosts your hair color if you need it, too.
I really love your hair adventure videos! I'm a natural ginger, but it's gotten less red as I've gotten older so these are super helpful. Also, apparently if you mix sunset orange with cosmic sunshine, you can sometimes get a more orange-y copper-y result?? I don't know if that's true, but I read it on the internet so it must be, right?! Thank you for your videos
So I'm dying my hair copper for a 5-6 years already and I used to mix two colours to get the one I needed. Since I have a terrible memory with number, often times than not I would get at leas one of them wrong and once I ended up with the exact same neon red xD right before the holidays of course and in all of our europe trip pictures I look very bright.. So feel you girl, it's gonna fade cute though)
I switch between pure henna And chemical dye for 12 years Now And nothing ever happened, if you use pure henna you are ok. The problem is with henna mixtures with indigo, you can end up with green hair 😂 ( sorry for my English, I am not a native speaker obviously ) 😂
You should do a outfits montage where you look at UA-camrs (like Jacksepticeye; Danny Avidan; Suzy Berhow; MatPat; Rebecca Parham; and recreate their style in a vintage aesthetic!!!! Would be so cool
I love Arctic Fox, I have purple hair and their "Purple Rain" is absolutely perfect to achieve a dark, shiny and rich purple, but I can totally see how can you be disappointed in your result. You usally have a more coppery tone and this one is definetely more gingery and bright, more suit to an alternative style (in fact I think that Arctic Fox is perfect if you have a more alternative style and want bright and very "out there" shades!) than a vintage one as you have. Still beautiful, I think, but of course you have to feel good yourself! I am sure that in a few washing it will fade to a more natural red/orange colour. Maybe for next time, if you still want to experiment, "Wrath" or "Poison" can give you a more vibrant but less ultra red with a orange undertone result!
Purple rain fades magenta tho, just to be warned (i have been through every colour of AF, currently with Aquamarine roots melted into Phantom Green and a dash of Neon Moon, very mermaid)
Did you guys (that tried the purple) bleach your hair? I have dark brown hair and don’t want to damage them too much, I have been wanting purple hair forever! How did it fade out for you?
Audrey. Hepburn i have dark brown hair but bleach it. Bleaching really is the only way for colors to show through. However my hair is super healthy because i dont wash it often (one a week) and when i need to put it in a bun on the 4th-6th days i use a leave in conditioner. I also dont put heat on it too much as well. I bleach up to a medium blond (level 7) as a balayage so when my hair grows out i dont have to touch up my roots. The color is like a deep purple on me when its fresh and it starts to get lighter with every wash. The color lasts me a bit over a month before it needs to be retouched and it does fade into a purple/magenta pink color which i dont mind (i redo it anyways). I recommend having a professional bleach your hair in highlights or balayage if you dont want to go all out and do any damage to your scalp (also if they use olaplex treatment it’ll also keep your hair healthy). Dying it with dark brown hair wont do anything really and it would only be noticeable in the sun for like the first wash and it’ll probably be gone by the 2nd or 3rd time you wash your hair. The dye doesn’t do any damage at all tho! My hair feels super silky after i use arctic fox and it smells great.
Mix your own colours, go to the arctic fox facebook page and ask there for the best mix to make a good copper/ginger colour, theyll help you out, and then do a test strand from the back of your hair (either colour directly or snipp like a tiiny tiny lock off, can be done from 3-4 places on your head to minimize how scary that feels). Also box dyes have developer in them to basically minimally lighten your hair before it deposits colour, semi dyes dont and thus wont take to virgin hair well/at all, and will also just sit on top and be washed off eventually
MY FIRST AND BIG PROBLEM (I use henna or maybe use a little bit of orange semipermanent dye with a little of brown). All the semipermanent orange dyes are red.
You look great with this! My daughter wanted green hair (yes green) so we went and used arctic foxes green and holy Kermit! It will wash out fast and you can also mix their colors to create a custom color for yourself... maybe try their burgundy and the orange you just did so it’s not soo bright if that’s what you are going for... ❤️
I’m thinking of colouring my hair a fancy colour myself, so excuse the many questions😅. Did your daughter bleach her hair first or does she have light hair already? And how did it fade out, how did the colour change and how long did it take for her?
I went through this same thing with this color. It is red!! I have this color right now. I did not expect it to be so bright. I look like the Wendy's girl right now 😩 😆🤣😂 great video
I started dyeing my hair with lush caca rouge henna because of you and even though its an annoying and tedious process I still love the result more than anything else Ive tried! Whats your experience with using regular hair dye over henna? And have you ever tried lightening it?
That's awesome!!! I haven't had ant problems with hair dye so far, just hard to find more vibrant colors in the well-known brands 😭 I generally don't need to lighten it because my natural hair is lighter, which can be helpful 😂
I lighted my hennaed hair and my experienced hairdresser made sure the henna had not been applied after a couple months and we lifted it slowly with a lower developer.
Normally one should dilute the toner with some cream measures. You used it pure. When I saw you applying it directly, without first mixing it with a moisturizing mask I was sure it would turn red. Wash your hair with anti residue shampoo, and next dilute the product with cream.
aaaaaaaaand this is why its important to do a test strip. the name of a color means nothing, its about how the formula will react to what you already have on your head and your individual pH. TEST first then you know if you need to mix with something to get desired outcome. Hell even if you just wipe some on a paper towel you can see the undertones better, will be a better judge if the tone is too light or too dark.
I've been thinking about doing exactly the same thing lately, but my natural hair color is a bit darker than yours. Everything I've seen has said to add a little bit of their yellow dye to make it more copper rather than red orange.
Something that could be super interesting for future videos would be putting polls throughout the video! I always love it when creators do it as it makes their content so much more interactive, and when you were talking about your roots and said 'place your bets' I was dyyyyying to see what other people were guessing 😂
Seconding overtone. I keep getting Facebook ads for them that feature a model with light brown/dark blond hair and she uses the orange. The after looks so nice! I use their purple and it’s very thick and conditions well.
I wanted to pick up sunset or poison but i decided to try good dye young color- narwhal and all in this together. I wanted half red but i got scared lol
2:32 Rachel: "And when it comes to catching hair dye. *dramatic scene* frankly my dear, they dont give a damn" . . .such an icon. YES. (that is such a nice music in the background at that part tho. what is it called?)
Also actually interesting that henna doesnt work for your roots because henna is lauded for being able to color hair that doesnt want to color like naturally grey and silver hair, though i wouldnt know myself in that regard as ive only used it to brighten my overall hair color before, and it did well. Also depends on what henna and henna mixes you get or make because all the ingredients matter even the mixing ingredients (i used to do henna tattoos for money)
Brad Mondo would be shook that this came out way better than expected with the norm at home application and dreaded box dye. Either way i love the colour. Wish was way to make roots stick. But still good colour over all.
I was going to sleep (waking up at half past seven tomorrow, hehe) but now I have to watch this, because I'm a DEDICATED FAN (can I get an award or something? 'cause this is loyalty, right?)
I know this was 5 months ago but you're all over my recommended videos so I feel compelled to tell you that the Garnier (pharmacy box dye) reds are really intense and are almost impossible to get rid of lol For me anyways. Happy Gingifying 🧡 Also: having a cheap hair brush to gently brush the color through your hair with helps avoid patches 😊
As a frequent user of semi permanent dyes, here's some tips. the thing is its essentially just tinted conditioner so U don't really have to leave it in that long. If it takes it takes if it doesn't then no amount of time will fix that. Because there's no ammonium in it the whole doing the roots thing last is pointless cuz it won't effect the way it goes on at all. But yea generally as a rule of thumb the dye will always come out way brighter than expected unless u start with very dark hair. Since its not chemically changing your hair think of it as adding an additional layer of color to the color ur hair already is. Ur hair probably turned out more red because it was already so copper to begin with. Sometimes It's handy to have a color wheel nearby and maybe look up a few things on color theroy😅
Please! Do some Poison Ivy, Ariel and Jessica Rabbit vintage cosplay! Also, Rose from Titanic! Did I miss any bright red haired gals? 😆 It's not the colour you wanted, but it can give us the vintage cosplay we deserve... Also, you look great no matter what hair colour you have!
You can't get "hot roots" with dye without a developer a.k.a Arctic Fox or Manic Panic. It's just a pigment in a water base paste that stains the surface of your hair which is why it washes out. The heat from your head will help the dye stain better but that's about it. The developer is key because it lifts and open up your hair to help the pigment stain the whole strain as compared to just the surface. If you want to dye your roots, you need a dye with a developer. You can mix the Arctic Fox dye with a developer and that should help. Your hair is naturally pretty light so vol 10 developer should be fine since you are going to red/orange tones. I would do 2/3 dye and 1/3 developer for the roots and 30 mins should be fine.
It looks really pretty on you but is not the color that it said it was so I understand the disappointment. I'll be too. Is like the bottle says blue and you ended with green or dark purple 🤷🏻♀️
i dont usually comment on videos but i wanted to tell you how endearing your personality is- there's such a magnetic and charming vibe about you! you are just the sweetest!

Oh YES ITS HAIR TIME WITH RACHEL!!!!
@@PsychyPrincess haha if only you commented this 1 year ago haha
I have discovered that adding more of the yellow makes it a perfect orange!
very late lol but same ;3; i wish i had watched this video again before dying (retouching) my hair lol. it was flaming hot cheeto red instead of the natural rich ginger i was going for. now it’s faded out and it’s fine but i still need to add orange back in. it’s been a journey
@@olwendavis327 we do have them in the UK, you can get them from Amazon or jml I believe
Well my love if you’re going for Haley Williams circa misery business hair do I have some new for you. Haley has her own hair color brand called ‘Good Dye Young’ !
Anne of Green Gables cosplay time?
That was my first thought
Thanks it's late at night and I'm wondering have I been doing my hair wrong all this time am I going to be okay 😂
You should do a outfits montage where you look at UA-camrs (like Jacksepticeye; Danny Avidan; Suzy Berhow; MatPat; Rebecca Parham; and recreate their style in a vintage aesthetic!!!! Would be so cool
Vintage Danny Sexbang? Heck yes.
@@holdthatghost5642 Have been watching the Game Grumps clips recently, and so Dan and Suzy popped in my mind.
I had a red hair mishap once, my Sister in Law said my hair dye should’ve been called Red Light District.😳😁
I'll have to look into their purple. Been trying to find a nice deep purple forever.
amanda agnew i can absolutely vouch for their purple, it leaves your hair so shiny and its got dimension where it looks dark yet vibrant
Please could you make a list of your favourite films or TV shows. Would love to see your opinions on that.
I dyed my hair green when I was 15 and loved it. Considering doing it again.
@@jimthecactus7425 do it
I’m thinking of colouring my hair a fancy colour myself, so excuse the many questions😅.
When life gives you lemons, you cosplay Ariel *insert shrugging emoji, but I'm on a laptop, so can't actually do that*
'🤷' here u go
I think it looks cute. Also, POISON IVY COSPLAY! Don't miss the opportunity!
Caca rouge means red poop
I lighted my hennaed hair and my experienced hairdresser made sure the henna had not been applied after a couple months and we lifted it slowly with a lower developer.
Normally one should dilute the toner with some cream measures. You used it pure. When I saw you applying it directly, without first mixing it with a moisturizing mask I was sure it would turn red. Wash your hair with anti residue shampoo, and next dilute the product with cream.
that lion king comparison spot on looks very nice on you xx
I would recommend putting the dye all over just your roots and leaving it for several hours or even over night.
I actually love iiit! The roots maybe less but it looks like those girls who's red hair is so vibrant it looks photoshopped 😍
Usually it is photoshopped 😂 but i see what you mean
aaaaaaaaand this is why its important to do a test strip. the name of a color means nothing, its about how the formula will react to what you already have on your head and your individual pH.
I don't know if it's just me BUT! when you were looking down getting the gloves I was like, "OHMAHGEEER! RACHEL IS SO GORGEOUS!" Such a stan! :] ♡♥
You look like the little mermaid but more natural
Reminds me of Sierra Boggess as Ariel on Broadway a few years back
Something that could be super interesting for future videos would be putting polls throughout the video! I always love it when creators do it as it makes their content so much more interactive, and when you were talking about your roots and said 'place your bets' I was dyyyyying to see what other people were guessing 😂
You should try overtone next
I've been wondering if they're any good! I'll look into it!
Seconding overtone. I keep getting Facebook ads for them that feature a model with light brown/dark blond hair and she uses the orange. The after looks so nice! I use their purple and it’s very thick and conditions well.
I’ve used the extreme pink and it is super moisturizing
I wanted to pick up sunset or poison but i decided to try good dye young color- narwhal and all in this together. I wanted half red but i got scared lol
It's brighter than I thought it would be when it's wet, but it still looks so pretty on you! You're one of those people that can carry any hair color!

Rachel: "And when it comes to catching hair dye. *dramatic scene* frankly my dear, they dont give a damn"
. . .such an icon. YES.
(that is such a nice music in the background at that part tho. what is it called?)
Clicked so fast
Also actually interesting that henna doesnt work for your roots because henna is lauded for being able to color hair that doesnt want to color like naturally grey and silver hair, though i wouldnt know myself in that regard as ive only used it to brighten my overall hair color before, and it did well. Also depends on what henna and henna mixes you get or make because all the ingredients matter even the mixing ingredients (i used to do henna tattoos for money)
"Sunset orange"
Hair flip
"My ass"
I do like the colour honestly ;)
Brad Mondo would be shook that this came out way better than expected with the norm at home application and dreaded box dye.
Either way i love the colour. Wish was way to make roots stick. But still good colour over all.
I was going to sleep (waking up at half past seven tomorrow, hehe) but now I have to watch this, because I'm a DEDICATED FAN (can I get an award or something? 'cause this is loyalty, right?)
"lion king" - dying isn't that a sunset?????? an orange sunset.......
I know this was 5 months ago but you're all over my recommended videos so I feel compelled to tell you that the Garnier (pharmacy box dye) reds are really intense and are almost impossible to get rid of lol For me anyways. Happy Gingifying 🧡
Also: having a cheap hair brush to gently brush the color through your hair with helps avoid patches 😊
Check out overtone hair color! It's like daily conditioner that deposits color in your hair!
"I look like a traffic light." Yes but a very pretty traffic light. Seriously though, we need a vintage Poison Ivy video!
Now you look like a vintage Ariel. 💗
Please! Do some Poison Ivy, Ariel and Jessica Rabbit vintage cosplay! Also, Rose from Titanic! Did I miss any bright red haired gals? 😆
It's not the colour you wanted, but it can give us the vintage cosplay we deserve...
Also, you look great no matter what hair colour you have!
Anne of green gables? That’d be awfully cute too
You can't get "hot roots" with dye without a developer a.k.a Arctic Fox or Manic Panic.
Good to know! 🙈
It looks really pretty on you but is not the color that it said it was so I understand the disappointment. I'll be too. Is like the bottle says blue and you ended with green or dark purple 🤷🏻♀️
I laughed at the "sunset orange my arse this is just straight up opening of the lion king red" sis the opening credits are a sunset lmao 😂😂
the easiest way to remove it is just keep washing maybe add a smidge of baking soda to your shampoo . coconut oil masks ..
Your general personality is so lovely you’re like a spot of sunshine on a bad day thank you for your videos!!! ☀️
The full house music 😂 I really like the deep red color, honestly
i dont usually comment on videos but i wanted to tell you how endearing your personality is- there's such a magnetic and charming vibe about you! you are just the sweetest!
Okay it is very red but I like it has attacked the color feel to it or look maybe a Rita Hayworth or Susan hair tutorial from the forties will go nicely with it since the first day and you did a good job you follow the rules and I think it looks pretty 👍💚👍
I meant to say Technicolor sorry
When you were doing your roots I immediately thought: Leeloo Dallas multipass! 😁
I love the "Good enough" song, and now often sing it to myself when I'm doing my makeup in the morning.
"I look like a traffic light" Guess that means Im getting me some artic fox next time. Mine's been burn out your eyes red for a while now and I have no plans on changing that LOL
My favorite thing you said: “ I summon the SUN! “🤣
