I'm a natural red, but I use henna, too, so that my ends don't turn greenish-yellow. Mmmm. Also, the henna is great for my hair's health... maybe not for everyone, but it makes my hair happy!
“whole. ass. hair routine. note the punctuation here. not that kinda video” RACHEL I WASNT EVEN THINKING THAT UNTIL U SAID IT AND NOW I CANT STOP LAUGHING THINKING OF SOMEONE MAKING AN ASS HAIR STYLING TUTORIAL
Dressed up Rachel is the girl I’d admire from afar, but way too intimidated to befriend. Editing Rachel would be the first person I approach in class to befriend.
As an ancestral henna user, may I recommend you a few tips? Try real leaves, do not mix lemon, do not shampoo or conditioner after rinsing, instead try drying it gritty af and oil it with warm coconut oil and shampoo and condition the next day.
@@LuanaSantos-rl4sb The rule is you don't condition or deep condition your hair before dying it. Because the oil will prevent the color from adhering properly to the hair shaft. Conditioning after dying it is completely fine.
Your hair is so gorgeous! I'm middle eastern and have been using henna all my life, a good trick is to mix it with conditioner and hot water (instead of yoghurt), it'll leave your hair way softer! And sitting under the sun or under direct heat helps to speed the process. 30 mins to 1 hour should be enough to dye your hair, but leaving it for longer than that will help strengthen your hair so it's better if you've got the time!
As someone with naturally curly hair, and has never used curlers, watching her brush it out STRESSED me out. I just... the horror... the frizz that dry brushing my hair causes.
I love that Editing Rachel™ now gets an entire screen for her snarky shenanigans! And the handwritten, (digitally written? digitally-by-hand-written?), annotations are absolutely choice. So glad to have you back
please make a thirty minute asmr montage of you doing your hair on multiple occasions because it is SO beautiful when you brush it out and move it and ugh
When I used to die my hair with henna I realised using a whisk or even better an electrical mixer makes it less clumpy/much smoother :) also mixing it with hot black tea and then letting it cool down a little bit before applying intensified the colour
Okay, but if you want any actual tips on that from another naturally curly person, make sure your hair has been moisterized before you brush it out, it helps a whole bunch to avoid the frizz. Creams are a pretty standard way to go to moisturize hair, though some extra research will be required if you want a cream that will also keep your hair healthy, which also goes a long way. Manes by Mell is a really good channel to do some research on curly hair ness if you want to take that time. Anyway, hope you have a good day!
Also, I really love the little touches in the editing in this video, especially the narration style and cutaways to narrating/editing Rachel! It was really fun and entertaining to watch and I appreciated it!
Thats what we are taught in cosmetology school. Along with calling scissors "shears", and we do not pluck hair, we tweeze it. In the words of my instructor "we are not chickens, we can not be plucked" 😂🙃.
My nan told me you never have to go grey, and at her funeral there wasn't a grey hair in sight. She also said you must always wear mascara, not sure why she said these things but they have stuck in our minds when we think of her.
As a hairstylist who is a natural light blonde, and had my hair colored red for 5 years, I thoroughly support your Henna journey ;) remember what you put in when you mix will affect the final color... I always wanted my more red than orange, I mixed in red wine, warm water and even some redirect dye... I never had issues with it clinging to the roots ( I have other colors that won’t stick like Elumen). Those overtone color conditioners ( or other color conditioners) work like a charm when the glow goes of the hair, and prolonge the color... maybe you could even get away with only coloring you roots and using overtone on your lenghts... I have a tip for your rollers... if you hate those plastic clips ( in my hair they always left with marks from the plastic) just cut them outs use a bit of cabbage and stick it through the hole - so next time you just tie the fabric and bye bye to those pesky marks on the roots ;) And I always support my clients cutting their own bangsand try to teach them doing it on their own....... and I only have one tip.... if you switch up where you cut, and start with a little at a time, it should work better.... I love that you cut them with thinning shears, it gives a softer tip... but other than that... cut on the underside of the fingers, that gives you more control over where you cut and how short it gets! If you want more tips, I can give you one more.... start with a small section about an inch wide, right where your part line is, or if you switch it up, tight in the middle.... let that section fall down and find out where you want the shortest length to fall, and cut either with your thinning shears, or point cut vertical with the tip of a normal pair of shears.... that gives you a guide to work from.... now you take a section of your sidebangs and do the same thing... if you do one side at a time you can take the cut side and the uncut side, pull it out right in front of you face, meeting in the middle, and that gives you a guide for the other sidebang.... finally you just connect the to guides through the rest of your bang, one side at a time.. A pro tip - always cut less off than you think in the first go.... as you discovered, it’s easier to cut more later ;)
Also, as you take weight/length off hair, it tends to lighten/spring up and look shorter. Especially if cut wet. I had a low forehead when younger. If I measured to top of my brow, from my hairline, I would end up with a fringe like moustache halfway up my forehead😬🙄😒😢!! My bangs and I usually looked liked the younger daughter on 'Father Knows Best'. LMBO In Beauty school, I learned to start farther back on my hairline, and cut to about middle of eye, or longer. 🤗
@@junehutchinson3658 - that is why its important to have the Hair Fall free when choosing the length... I have a ‘2 head’ ( as in my forehead is 2 fingers wide) and to combat that while having ‘real bangs’ I took the very front section ( about 1 cm width ) and cut up to the hairline... that gave me the illusion of a higher forehead and thus a better look ;)
@@reneekh3599 - its about what you are aiming for... henna is NOT a demi permanent color, it’s even more permanent than any chemical permanent color... The difference between henna and regular color is that a normal color opens the cuticle of the hair slightly before depositing color, while henna only deposits - but the henna particles are not really penetrating, they are sitting in the cuticle and staining the hair.... So while henna still fades, it can’t really be removed.... So if you at any time in the near future are thinking of changing up your color, then DONT do henna.... the only option after henna is going darker.... But if you are committed to the red and willing to experiment a bit with the color - go ahead... Henna is an organic product - so while it will go red, it’s not like looking in a color swatch book... you never know exactly what hue it will come out as.... and as I said above, what you mix in will affect the color.... lemon is great for amping up the orange for example.... red wine is great for going burgundy, and coffee is great for deepening the color.... You do need the warm water to mix it in, because that is what really activated the henna particles.... The reason for using a color on the roots is because the henna doesn’t penetrate or open the cuticle, so some people have a hard time getting henna to stick to new growth....
As someone that's been cutting her own bangs and giving herself an undercut since about May of 2020, cutting your own hair definitely gets a lot of unnecessary judgment! You keep rocking your adorable hair tho
That’s like me watching her sewing videos. I think I was like 9 the one and only time I tried sewing something, and the thread unraveled when I washed it. 😅
@@findingbeautyinthepain8965 lol🤭! Reminds me of my first try at sewing on a button😬. I made a knot in the thread, then stuck the needle thru backside of the fabric and into the hole in the button, yay! Then carefully went to the outside of the button, stuck the needle thru the fabric, again. A few more times, then made my tie-off knot and cut the thread! So proud, til I tried to button my pants...and realized my mistake😒😳🙄😢. My Mom had to show me the correct way, and why buttons have more than one hole! 🥴😜🤨 I was 10. I'm 73, now, but remember that day so clearly, ha!!
just adding this as another voucher for henna: been dyeing my hair with it for 8 years. i also use box dye first to lift my roots bc my hair is naturally medium brown, but i just use a nondescript dark blonde for that, bc i like my red to be a shade or two darker than rachel’s. i prepare my henna with only warm water (apparently letting it simmer can destroy the pigments, so i’m always careful abt that), then i use one of those electric hand mixers to make it real smooth bc i does tend to clump. then i just let it sit for a bit and periodically test it by putting a little on my hand and waiting a couple minutes-if it leaves a very orange stain, it’s good to go. i apply it to dry hair just to make it easier to see where i’m putting it, wrap it and sleep in it. then wash in the morning and voilà. that has never damaged my hair, on the contrary. HOWEVER, i can’t stress enough that it is permanent. like “forever” type of permanent. no bleach will get rid of it and it *will* destroy your hair to try it. believe me, i’ve tried. oh, and to me henna just smells like herbal tea. ☺️ i’ve definitely smelled worse hair things. lol
Hahaha I tried getting rid of henna in my hair too, when I was 19 or so. Major mistake. My ends and roots were blonde, the middle still red. Had to wear a headscarf to go back to the shop and buy chemical ginger dye hahahaha so embarrassing!

Me, a real ginger with curly hair: ah, so this is how it works
Ditto.
She had me fooled at first, I have to give that to her!
@Naz Tutucu absolute deal
@Naz Tutucu very bold of you to say that considering how I'm going to steal your hair colour and NOW WHO'S THE WEASLEY
@Naz Tutucu CHILL IT WAS FUNNY LMAOOO IM NOT OFFENDED
I'm a natural red, but I use henna, too, so that my ends don't turn greenish-yellow. Mmmm. Also, the henna is great for my hair's health... maybe not for everyone, but it makes my hair happy!
“whole. ass. hair routine. note the punctuation here. not that kinda video”
RACHEL I WASNT EVEN THINKING THAT UNTIL U SAID IT AND NOW I CANT STOP LAUGHING THINKING OF SOMEONE MAKING AN ASS HAIR STYLING TUTORIAL

Warm coconut oil in the whole head of hair? And where should we get the real leaves? Thanks for the tips!
Conditioner was what we used to get the henna out of my mom's hair after an unfortunate Metal Preparation Bowl incident.
Doesn't coconut oil erases the henna?
@@LuanaSantos-rl4sb that’s been my experience same with fashion colors too. Oil keeps the hair from absorbing the color.
@@LuanaSantos-rl4sb The rule is you don't condition or deep condition your hair before dying it. Because the oil will prevent the color from adhering properly to the hair shaft. Conditioning after dying it is completely fine.
That "blonde jokes are just degrading" hit some deep notes there.
Glad you're back!
I really felt that “never dries. EVER” I felt it in my s o u l
Also we live for the Alice Cullen attempt at side bangs 😔
Your hair is so gorgeous! I'm middle eastern and have been using henna all my life, a good trick is to mix it with conditioner and hot water (instead of yoghurt), it'll leave your hair way softer! And sitting under the sun or under direct heat helps to speed the process. 30 mins to 1 hour should be enough to dye your hair, but leaving it for longer than that will help strengthen your hair so it's better if you've got the time!
As someone who dyes their hair magenta, I can relate to the bathroom massacre. My tub always looks like I've been murdering Muppets.
Also, if you ever stain my skin, people get _super_ concerned--or at least, in my experience they do.
Purple in my case. Looks like I spilled wine all over my shower. :P

As someone with naturally curly hair, and has never used curlers, watching her brush it out STRESSED me out. I just... the horror... the frizz that dry brushing my hair causes.
This is one of my comfort videos I always turn back to, (especially when I’m dying my hair with henna), it’s like a warm hug!

Me, grabbing my snacks and a blanket: oh?
I know. I was reading an e book when this popped up. I went straight to this video.
Blue blanket and black decaf tea if anyone is asking. Narrator: No one did.
did the exact same XD
literally just settled into bed with my snack cake like, ohhhh yeh, time for the highlight of my week. And man has it ever been a week.
I love that Editing Rachel™ now gets an entire screen for her snarky shenanigans! And the handwritten, (digitally written? digitally-by-hand-written?), annotations are absolutely choice. So glad to have you back
I've wanted red hair ever since I read Anne of Green Gables as a kid. Your hair is goals. Keep doing what you're doing!

when she said “cocker spaniel” i realized how much she looks like lady-
Yup
please make a thirty minute asmr montage of you doing your hair on multiple occasions because it is SO beautiful when you brush it out and move it and ugh
I love that we're seeing all three versions of Rachel in this one video
When I used to die my hair with henna I realised using a whisk or even better an electrical mixer makes it less clumpy/much smoother :) also mixing it with hot black tea and then letting it cool down a little bit before applying intensified the colour
Wow! Great ideas!
That interlude for Frodo’s hair routine is one of the best things I’ve seen
the clips of your narration is my new favorite thing
Ikr! I love it
Rachel brushes curls out: looks absolutely fabulous
Me, naturally curly brushing my curls out: look like a ball of hay
That’s because her hair is naturally straight
@@matthewbates9629 I know, just trying to make fun of the situation I'm into 😂
Okay, but if you want any actual tips on that from another naturally curly person, make sure your hair has been moisterized before you brush it out, it helps a whole bunch to avoid the frizz.
Facts. Lol
@Fokshee I feel you so much... I only brush them before going in the shower. Or I look homeless 😹

Also, I really love the little touches in the editing in this video, especially the narration style and cutaways to narrating/editing Rachel! It was really fun and entertaining to watch and I appreciated it!
My hair stylist once told me, “A lady doesn’t DYE her hair. She colors it.” It has stuck with me.
Thats what we are taught in cosmetology school. Along with calling scissors "shears", and we do not pluck hair, we tweeze it. In the words of my instructor "we are not chickens, we can not be plucked" 😂🙃.
That's like when I when to a plant and tree place once. I asked for some dirt and they said it's SOIL, not dirt!!!!!
My nan told me you never have to go grey, and at her funeral there wasn't a grey hair in sight. She also said you must always wear mascara, not sure why she said these things but they have stuck in our minds when we think of her.
Wtf
Or, maybe, a lady enhances her hair ??? My fave is 'horses sweat, men perspire, women glow'.
I have a tip for your rollers... if you hate those plastic clips ( in my hair they always left with marks from the plastic) just cut them outs use a bit of cabbage and stick it through the hole - so next time you just tie the fabric and bye bye to those pesky marks on the roots ;)
And I always support my clients cutting their own bangsand try to teach them doing it on their own....... and I only have one tip.... if you switch up where you cut, and start with a little at a time, it should work better....
LMBO
In Beauty school, I learned to start farther back on my hairline, and cut to about middle of eye, or longer. 🤗
WikiHow to Bookmark a UA-cam Comment
@@junehutchinson3658 - that is why its important to have the Hair Fall free when choosing the length...
I have a ‘2 head’ ( as in my forehead is 2 fingers wide) and to combat that while having ‘real bangs’ I took the very front section ( about 1 cm width ) and cut up to the hairline... that gave me the illusion of a higher forehead and thus a better look ;)
I want to try henna, but I use Matrix's demi, Color Sync 8CG on my roots. Will I be ok with that combo?

Is there a video about how Editing Rachel edits?
just adding this as another voucher for henna: been dyeing my hair with it for 8 years. i also use box dye first to lift my roots bc my hair is naturally medium brown, but i just use a nondescript dark blonde for that, bc i like my red to be a shade or two darker than rachel’s. i prepare my henna with only warm water (apparently letting it simmer can destroy the pigments, so i’m always careful abt that), then i use one of those electric hand mixers to make it real smooth bc i does tend to clump. then i just let it sit for a bit and periodically test it by putting a little on my hand and waiting a couple minutes-if it leaves a very orange stain, it’s good to go. i apply it to dry hair just to make it easier to see where i’m putting it, wrap it and sleep in it. then wash in the morning and voilà.
that has never damaged my hair, on the contrary.
Question fellow henna user. Do you do an all over dye each time or a touch up? Is your hair still bright orange or did it become a dark burgundy?
@@Ezaffin i didn’t do it every time, maybe once every few months. the color on the length remained the same, no darkening.
