I use to avoid this video when I was preparing for GATE, now I am an IOCL Officer Grade A, frustrated with shift life, no Saturday Sunday off, frequent shift changes, so many double shifts, no festival leaves, frequent politics of Promotees, body getting physically damaged, mentally disturbed.
Regretting every single day for the decision of joining IOCL

I work in one of the MNC PriceWaterhouseCoopers(PwC). I get a good salary fixed Saturdays and sundays off Rs 8 lacs medical insurance for myself spouse children and my and wife parents all are covered which PSUs also dont offer this facilty to parents. Perks and every year 10%minimum hike is there. Last but not the least complete work from home. Yes during busy season we work for 10 hours but that is also 2-3 months a year. I enjoy a perfect work-life balance in PwC its a myth that PSUs are known for work life balance

Just joined BPCL (as officer, management trainee) in June and I agree 100% with you. In fact I work in LPG plant and the work life balance is even worse. 6 days a week, but you dont know which day will be your weekly off. You can have 4 shifts - general (9am-5.30pm), morning (6am-2pm), evening (2pm-10pm) and night (10pm-6am). . You are supposed to submit some non sense reports at the end of non-general shifts which takes about 30-40 minutes at least and you have to hope you can sneakily leave your office after that before your boss catches you and gives you extra tasks or meetings which will force you into overtime of 2-3 hrs (btw if you ask for Overtime money, it is frowned upon). Best part is that you only know your shift 1 night prior in most cases. For eg to know my shift tomorrow, I will have to wait for a whatsapp message till like 9pm to 11 pm. Btw night shifts are not everyday it depends on production requirements If you are doing evening shift, you can find out at 9 pm that suddenly distributors have demands and you have to meet them so you have to run extended hours (upto 12 or 2 am), if night shift was not planned for that day. Sometimes you do a night shift and next day you have to do evening shift. Sometimes you do an evening shift and next day you have to do morning shift. That means only 8 hrs gap between office hours.
Lastly if you want a leave, you better let someone in your family die or be extremely sick, as you are not allowed leaves for any other reasons. The stress the boss puts on you for meaningless stuff just so that they can bootlick thier bosses is also insane. Truly epic work culture.
I hate this company and regret the day I joined. I feel like giving up and open a shop or something with my saved money

100% TRUE! Really work culture & pressure on us is literally toxic in PSUs. I was working in CRIS for 2yrs, the quality of projects(old tech) & the expectations is unmatched(poor) & the senior managers are just oldly bitter folks always ready to shout, abuse, scold/mock, rag often & they dont have any fear doinng that. Senior level animals Uaually exploit us freshers by handovering their tasks too on us & expect us to do all alone without their intervention/help. Even there is NO Saturday in govt jobs unlike in corporate Sat-Sun is off🤦‍♀
For help also you can't even seek the guidence from them, they usually laugh on these kind of helplessness & keeps on taunting "itna bhi nhi aata........."!!
PSUs are full of OLD, Tharki, misogynist, Sadist, ambitionless & cloud 9 level egoistic animals who are just power, money hungry!! To survive & get regular(slow) promotion here you have to learn to lick the ASS of senior managers😶😤. Office politics & union-bazi toh next level hota h, na discuss kre to he better h😑😑. Even switching is difficult in psus, NOC nhi dete h time pe yeh bkl😤
So no job security & 0 mental balance, 0 work-life balance cuz they fuck with our brain everyday that many freshers who join via GATE, eventually had to quit this fucking job.
Even after quiting its very difficult to get good job/package again in corporate unless you did your mtech from top IITs. So its a deadly Deadlock!!
Think 10 times before joining, think of next 10years in advance before making any decision👍
If you're in Top 7 IITs & doing Mtech in CSE then its best to work hard in your mtech course & get decently high paying job (avg 20-30lpa) with good tech stack to live a finantially strong, positive & growth oriented life!

I recently left my job at a major oil psu after 4 yrs.
While I agree with your reasons, they are not my reasons for leaving.
Yes work pressure is very high in some departments such as sales. Targets are illogical. Appreciation for good work is less and grilling and humiliating officer for little things is more. Management feels the more you grill officer, the better they will perform.
But despite it all, I sometimes enjoyed my work and tried to maintain work life balance.
I was lucky to get metro posting in my hometown.
But my reasons for leaving is that the work eventually got boring and monotonous. I did not feel intellectually stimulated. Yes i probably expected it when I joined but a lot of things change in 4-5 yrs.
Also I could not see myself doing the same type of job for the next 4-5 yrs.
Also the initial pay of PSUs is very good but when the work load keeps increasing and the pay doesn't keep up, it's demotivating.
You start with earning more than your peers but after 4-5 yrs they earn as much as you and after 10 yrs they earn way more than you. In private 1 switch can give you 40-50% hike.
Thus i quit my psu job and joined a consulting firm with 60% hike. Work is also more interesting and future growth potential is unlimited.

@@ukexamtonikaalkemanunga3100 Before laughing, understand what I was implying. I wrote improved his technical skills. When a guy prepares for the exams for the Psu's that guy improves technical skills and those skills can be used as a back up in case you don't succed in the Gate exams. Those skills open a lot of doors for you including higher studies and the stuff that you wrote about phd. On the other hand which doors are opened by the preparation of ssc cgl exams. If you fail in ssc cgl what's your back up? Ssc chsl ssc mts rrb. And the frequency and the fastness with which these agencies are recruiting is truly commendable. I guess people are still waiting for the final results of 2019 cgl.
Moreover what happens if one fails in the cgl exam. In which private institution he can use the skills of 10the level Mathematics, English, Reasoning and General Knowledge. What are the scopes of higher studies, private sector opportunities, research jobs, or even the civil services job? What's the plan B for them? I guess they prepare for Rrbs and the fastness of this recruiting agency is second only to ssc.
On the other hand when one prepares for psu, he preapres his graduation subject. He becomes a true engineer and even of he fails in securing a job at psu he has a lot of opportunities do something with his life.
I know that the job at psu's can be frustrating coz' in comparison private sector guys generally earn more money than a psu guy or live in good locations. That's why there is high attrition. But they tend to leave their jobs for better jobs or studies at IIM or IITs or they prepare for civil services.
But for a psu executive who earns a salary which is more than group A employee's salary, you have to accept the vastness of the work.
Grass is always greener on the other side.
