I had a friend body double for me on a zoom call. Just having someone to chitchat with made the boredom of the task go away. Plus, I could hold stuff up and ask her whether something was out of style or not. She was going through her own stuff at the same time.

My daughter used to be my "facilitator". She'd just keep me going by handing me the next box or bin, emptying the next shelf or drawer, etc and helping sort into piles. She was great about helping me organize the resulting piles every so often so we had space to keep moving forward. She wasn't pushy about keeping anything, but if I hesitated or she felt I was losing focus and beginning to just keep things I didn't really need or care about, she'd ask a question or two to clarify my thoughts and help me get off memory lane and back on focus boulevard again. I miss that. It just occurred to me that she'd learned how from when used to help her in her room and must have internalized it.

With a mold problem, all the wicker and baskets should go. Molds are health hazards. You'll never get mold out of baskets. Clearing stuff out will help with air flow. She's doing great!

If there’s mold it will be in the carpet, the furniture, etc. I would clean the baskets with a bleach solution and dry them in the sun.

It's great to watch someone with ADHD get this kind of assistance. I have ADHD, and periodically I have to hire someone - not an organizer, just someone willing, patient, and pleasant, who needs a few hours work - to help me sort through things - to just be another brain in the room which helps executive functioning in some mysterious way. I have also provided this service for other ADHD people. It must be hard for someone with a brain like April's to understand the nature of the deficits that make this so difficult for someone with a brain like mine and Dani's, but she does a great job. I totally understood why Dani was able to let go of things so readily. I struggle with clutter not because I have any particular interest in keeping the stuff, but because I struggle to see my way through chaos. So, periodically, I hire someone to accompany me through it. You did a great job Dani! You, too, April!

Just because we are fully capable of decluttering and organizing, often the overwhelm is just so real. There is just something to be said for having a person you can count on come into your home and really help you. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes to hold us accountable and encourage us to get started.

When I visited my friend in Gothenburg in December 2018, advent stars and led candles were /everywhere/. She said that because it's dark all the time, everyone wants to warm things up. I wanted to get everyone a star for Christmas, but somehow they were impossible to find lol. Finally I found them in a basement store and discovered that they fold down flat, so I was able to buy a whole bunch and fit them in my luggage super easy. In my house, it is almost always on in the front and center living room window!

I've decluttered so much, my bedroom is cleaner and tidier. Now I feel like I'm able to sleep deeper or more soundly and longer too. I am way more well rested and feel happier. I think it is so much easier to declutter with support. I have a family member who needs this, too, and we accomplish so much when partnering for support. So, even if Dani is decluttering faster and more thoroughly than other clients, I can see that she is feeding off of your guidance and support, April. She is pacing with you in response to your feedback and Dani is even challenging some of your questions about keeping items (the pillow is a perfect example). That is awesome!
Sometimes, doing this solo, we get too into our own heads about it and end up keeping items that we would maybe have decluttered with a support buddy in place. It becomes like a therapy of sorts. It is nice to see this because it gives a lot of us inspiration in a different way and shows that decluttering is not one size fits all and sometimes it just becomes that easy to let it go. Great job to you both!! 💝

I have a suggestion for the room. After the declutter and cleaning is done, maybe all the dressers can be in one line and the clothing rack can be on the right where the vintage chest is. That way she can get a long space above all the dressers for bags Just my suggestion!

It looks like the plastic hangers made it back onto the clothing rack. Last we saw the clothing rack it had space on it and there was a pile of lots of velvet hangers to use for sweatshirts and other things to go back on the rack. I guess more went onto the rack than there were velvet hangers for. The behavior pattern with holiday decor is to not take it down and just add to it. May be best to keep 1 item per room for each holiday making it easier to change up for holidays. It's such a small space that one added item can create the holiday theme itself.

Keeping up with Dani is the problem - she's so quickly going through decisions the video was done at a gallop! I agree with Dani, it helps to have someone start and keep you on course - also it's more fun when things get overwhelming and it seems like all you're doing is deliberately making a huge mess. I love the room you're sculpting by moving out what Dani no longer wants or needs - when you panned around at the end I actually physically took in a deep breath of relief at the space opened up 😊

I gotta admit, as much as love the videos that you made with your mom, I have been loving these with Dani even more. I love her personality. It has been so much fun watching her apartment being de-cluttered. How did she get all of that into her little apartment?? (no judgement) LOL. I hope that she paints her bedroom a nice pastel color other than off-white LOL. Great job, April and Dani.

They're not helpers, they're four footed supervisors. When we had cat's, they used to follow my husband around and watch him do his yard work, etc 😸

I am loving this series! I said this last week and will say it again this week. I really want to be there with you! I want to be right there cheering and clapping as Dani lets things go! She is amazing!! I am so excited for the reorganization and yet, I don't ever want this serious end! 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe you could offer similar services to your friends and loved ones. Everyone needs a helping hand every now and again. You seem motivated to be a good helper 😊

Dani is so cute here 26:26!! The way she looks at you then at the camera and smiles OMG!!! I love these videos, how long and detailed they are, how slow and encouraging you are with Dani and of course how she's totally on board but just needed that little push to get her started. I feel like that's what most of us need, not just about decluttering but everything really, that little healthy encouragement. Good job and good luck!

The bed would be awesome against that window vertically. It would make the bedroom more open.

Absolutely love this! It itches in my own fingers to clear this space and to see clean surfaces....it is way easier to ceep clean when its less stuff everywhere....I think Dani is amazing in the way she declutters - direct, very determined and with a great attitude. cant wait to see more! Expecially clearing the door!

i feel like having that ledge all around the room makes is so hard cause all any furniture must make the room feel small when its a foot away from the walls. i would just use closed bins on the ledge over dressers that hold bins

I was thinking that too, the ledge would drive me nuts. I would need to arrange everything so it could all fit up on the ledge

You are so right about gifts from students! ❤ so jard to let go. My mom started shrinking her scarf collection in a brilliant way: she wraps gifts in scarves in lieu of wrapping paper!!
I'd never thought of it but, omg, I now have like 12 extra scarves to deal with, BUT she's gifting others and who doesn't love a gift in a gift? Worth a try
