    2) If you missed Tracy's 2nd declutter episode last week it was a good one! Watch here: ua-cam.com/video/mKYxtQUGl48/v-deo.html

    The “unhelpful helpers” sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon from the 80s, where a dog and two cats try and solve neighbourhood crimes and always mess it up, but somehow it’s all ok in the end.

    Dani, I feel your pain. I grew up in a 2600 sq ft home, where my mother occupied 6 closets. For a number of years, my parents lived in two cities. So, my parents also accumulated an extra apartment of furniture. My sister and I have spent years and years decluttering a lifetime of clutter. When my father was ill and before and after he passed, the clutter grew and grew. As my sister and I lived in different cities from my mom, we did not see how bad it became for years. When my father passed, we took car loads to Goodwill. Eventually, they said they couldn't take any more. A couple of years later, the state took over our family home, imminent domain due to a highway expansion and it was one of the best things that could have happened. We had to move her. She ended up moving way too much but we were determined to find her new home before the move, so she could see it wouldn't all fit. She still filled the new home and a two car garage with furniture and boxes. For many years thereafter, we went through painful years of decluttering. She lived in that house for 14 years. Two years ago we moved her again to be closer to us, and she is now in a much smaller apartment than the two previous apartments. Again we went through painful decluttering for months before we could put her house on the market and only moved what would fit. She still has emotional attachment to everything and can't let things go, but, we have gotten her belongings to a reasonable place. This is helpful as her health and care is the focus. I am sure that both my sister and I inherited many of her excess tendencies. We both have too much. My sister has a house and a full garage. I have moved from a 1900+ house and several large apartments to a 1000 sq ft apartment and now less than 600 sq ft apartment. With each move, I sold, gave away, and donated furniture, household items and clothing. I have much more to let go of but I am getting closer to my goal, and the more I do, the better my home and my well being feels. Stay committed to your goals. The process never ends. When you get organized, you need a system to review your categories each year so you don't make your way back. Turning hangers around and doing seasonal switches reviewing what you did and did not wear and asking yourself questions why can help. Also, be realistic about what you actually have time to sell. Limit yourself to higher value items and if they don't sell in a season, add them to the give or donate. Best of luck!

      That’s very brave. I admire your tenacity and strength amidst parents saying ‘No keep it!’ and the tendencies you learned from them. My bf has emotional attachment to things and has 6.5 cars in his very small garden.

      Excellent comment. Sadly, at 10 am today someone broke into my detached garage. I had spent over 3 years downsizing and decluttering. Thieves only got a 8x12x 6" tote of my favorite books, a microwave, my flute...Because of my decluttering I had an empty bedroom to move all of my totes .. that they didn't take ! I had organized everything into twenty two..8x11x18" clear totes. It is a drag that I now have those +2 window air conditioners..10 aluminum ladder .. in my bedroom!

    I love how April keeps the focus fixed on the daily objective, in this case: clothes. It’s so easy to bunny trail into dealing the the contents of the purses or dealing with a non-clothing item. That’s a great reminder to help with avoiding becoming overwhelmed. That happens to me when I’m housecleaning; I begin one task, get distracted by something else and things blow up. I work until I’m overtired, only to discover that my original objective wasn’t achieved. Seeing this helps to remind me to STAY ON TASK! 🤦🏼‍♀️

    I think it might be important to note that it's SO difficult to find new and used clothes for larger bodies in many Asian countries. Plus sized clothes? Forget it. They barely exist in stores in Korea. The largest size in most women's clothing in Korea is equivalent to a women's 8/10 here. This is probably why she and her girlfriends had those clothing exchange groups, and why Dani has so many clothes. It is very difficult to find clothing there even for an average size woman.

      @@alamedadanceparty that’s why I don’t have alot of things because I hate cleaning, so I only have few things of everything therefore everything looks tidy.
      I have only two dishes that I make sure always wash and I always use one cup so I don’t keep making more cups dirty, so less washing🤣🤣🤣 I have less clothes so I don’t have big pile of laundry to do, and my make-up is also very minimalistic because I hate to have a cluttered vanity😅😅

    I don't think she realizes how much time and trouble selling those clothes (hanging the clothes to take pics, writing description (maker, size, fabric, condition etc., posting them online, answering emails re questions from potential buyers, making mailing labels, boxing, weighing, etc.} You won't have time for much else. lol

    • @AngelA-ps7rz
      @AngelA-ps7rz 2 місяці тому +3

      That's true she could also do a garage sale or go to a consignment shop where you leave your clothes for them to pick what they want to buy off you. But as someone who has sold on Depop I agree selling online would take a lot of time/energy.

    When I was younger I had a lot of everything. Nowadays a few black dresses and wrap dresses that don't need ironing is good. Same for shoes. Good, confy ones, a few beautiful good bags and I'm good to go. Makes life far more simple and easier. I still keep a lot more books than I want cause I still work as a professor. Next reincarnation I wanna work with technology and I don't want to touch a single sheet of paper. 😂

  • @kdimmick
    @kdimmick 3 місяці тому +8

    You both did great!!! An alternative to selling yourself is to send off to a consignment. You'll get a small portion. You need to apply a cost to your time in selling, and it may not be worth it on your end. The Real Real is a great high-end consignment. Thred up for good basics.

    Don't know if this is too late but when you have too much to sell, you can sort it into categories/size and sell them in (mystery)boxes with 10 items for a smaller price. So that way, it's easier for you and people are more likely to buy it. Of course you make less money but you also have to account for al the time you spend, selling everything individually.
    Love the video's! And love that you share your home, Dani! Thank you for that. You seem like a great person!

    • @xoviimeh4739

      Another option would be to send it to a resale platform like thredup. I think there are a lot more brands like that that take people's clothes and sell them for them. Yes, you will only get a portion of the sale price, but I think it will help for so many clothes.
      Plus, you'll get rid of it quickly and it won't sit around forever. You don't have to buy shipping materials and go through the hassle of packing each item yourself.

    An easier way to sell may be to send stuff into thread up or taking it to a store like Plato’s Closet or Crossroads. Where you don’t have to photograph or manage anything. Let someone else sort and price everything. You won’t make as much but it will save you a lot of sanity! Great work ladies!

    When I declutterred I had best intentions to sell….but the piles of sell clothes just stayed in my house for weeks!! In the end I donated most of it because the money I might have made was not worth the stress that the clutter caused!! I’m surprised how many clothes Dani kept - I reckon in a couple of months half those clothes will have gone as she realises she needs less!! Having less clothes and clutter is such a relief….its caused me so much stress and I feel happier, tidier and cleaner with less in my house.

    Absolutely love watching Dani declutter. She gets sh*t done!
    Dani is clearly someone who loves things but has no attachment to them. She owns her things and her things do not own her!

    you have much patience and grateful for your client.
    It seems like no one makes video about the decluttered stuff remove from the house.
    This is the secret, out of the house final decision.

    That's how I kept the clutter in control when I was single, by giving away items in good conditions, but I did not want no more. We all did that, exchange clothes, as a way of getting more use of the items, kind of recycle/reuse. But now I'm far from my family and make no sense to pay for luggage for that purpose. I'm glad she has such close friends.
