You prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown =)
This one grammar rule in particular has been driving me crazy for a while when I learn English mostly in spoken contexts. Thank you for clearing it out for me Wes!
Oh my gosh! You've just taught me how to pronounce the word "situation" properly! 6:28 That was so unexpected! Thank you so much! This word was torturing me for a long time. (I am Russian and it's so difficult to eliminate the Russian accent, even a little bit). And this lesson was great. I consider you as one of the best teachers on youtube.
Great lesson. It's a hard topic for Brazilians since any verb can be used in the gerund form in Portuguese. When we say "I'm loving it", it means we're enjoying it, like, so far so good. On the other hand, Portugal's Portuguese doesn't have any gerund at all. They abandoned it in the early 1900s. I don't know about French, but Spanish and Italian also have their "ing" form.
You are the most positive teacher I have ever come across. "I love the infectious smile on your face" (hope this is grammatically correct :)) Sending best vibes your way 💛🌻💐
I am loving your video. I am totally aware of the fact that some of stative verbs are used in continuous forms as they have two meanings but not all of the stative verbs. It is worthy learning with you. Thank you so much.
I don't think it's incorrect at all to use some stative verbs in the continuous tense IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. It makes total sense that if the state is a temporary one, and it's ongoing, you use a continuous tense to emphasize that temporary aspect. I'm lovin' it right now as I'm tasting it! This isn't looking any good! I've been wanting to talk to you about sth. Looking good my friend! See? All emphasize the temporary state, focusing on the present moment. Of course you won't use it in a formal written document, but you could and you should use it in informal conversation.
Hi Wes!I have been enjoying your lessons. As a subscriber of your channel,I reckon the lessons quite interesting without fail.I'd like to cherish the basic principle of English grammar.I know languages have been evolving, however I don't like the situation as “ Bad money drives out good money”. I'm looking forward to having your next lesson. Have a good one! Ikuo Suenaga from Japan.
Hi, Wes! Great topic pick-up! I'm lovin' it hands down and am always on the lookout for more interesting and useful videos from you. Thanks, and I hope you have a good one! Greetings from sunny São Paulo, Brazil! 🇧🇷
I am not a native English speaker. I think we can use stative verbs in present continuous in order to emphasize a feeling or emotion, so it’s not about something happening right now.
Thank you too Sir Wes, I think "I love it" is to say that one is really determined to say it because it feels as really loveable, but "I'm loving it" is used when people are doing things presently and starting to feel how loving the activity is. Is it correct, Sir?
Thanks s million for the video! 👌🤝 So many people around the world learn English and all of them feel the strong influence of their native grammar, that confuses and perplexes them. Especially when it comes to stative and action verbs. 🤷♂️ And in most countries they use not quite modern books, to put it mild. 🤷♂️ So, most contradictions lie exactly in this sphere, because not all, who learn English, can travel abroad. English is changing too quickly to catch up with it! One needs modern books and an opportunity to visit English speaking countries to stay tuned. But with the help of such channels we can do it much easier! 👌✊☺️ Thanks one more time! 🤝 P.S. Could you please answer my question, if you have no plans for the video with this topic. ☺️ How should we pose a question to the subject in the following sentence - 'They are English teachers.' Can we ask - 'Who are English teachers?' It seems incorrect from the point of view of modern English grammar. Because we should use 3d person singular when dealing with such question. But the predicative is plural! 🤔 So, should we ask 'Who is English teacher?' or 'Who are English teachers?' Thank you in advance! 🤝✊
👨🏻🏫 Hello. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴. I have an answer to your question. ‘Who are English teachers?’ is incorrect. It should be like this: ‘Who are the English teachers?’ Then the answer becomes ‘They are the English teachers.’ These sentences need the definite article to be correct. I hope this is helpful for you.
@@sirmeowthelibrarycat Thank you very much! 🤝✊ You've been really helpful! 👍👍👍 I got it! 👌 But I have one more question, if it doesn't bother you. If the question should be like this - 'Who are THE English teachers?' - Does that mean, the initial affirmative sentence, that we pose question to, should be also written with the definite article? i.e. 'They are THE English teachers.' Or we can write it without a definite article and use it only in the answer?
Hi wes! May i request a video about the proper way of using due to, because of, and due to the fact? I'm confused why "The flight was cancelled due to the typhoon." Is grammatically wrong.
So you gave loads of examples, but you didn't really explain why do people sometimes say "I am loving" instead of "I love". Can I get some clarification? Is it also to underline the feeling in the moment?
Verbs are the boss in German sentence structure. Supposedly they tell you everything, so I wonder why they're not capitalized like every noun has to be. Verbe sind den Chef (boss is Chef) auf Deutsch. -Vicki
Wow, Wess, you are doing lots of work at home, I'm impressed! I watched many videos about Stative & dynamic words and now I got it at last! Thanks a lot! Would you make a video on how to use such words as That & it, but is this way like " It was good" "That was good" or That's my opinion, or it was my opinion" That's cool or it's cool! That was not right, or it was not right? I get confused using these impressions!
I find lessons about this ternse very hard to understand,. It does not exist in German. Not with the same way it does in English. We never use -ing as a verb, only an adjective. A grinning Cheshire Cat. If we want to say I'm grinning, we say Ich grinse gerade. That means it right now happens. -Gustav
