- Nothing gets me in the holiday spirit quite like baking, so in this Marcy Inspired Bonus Video I share the latest thing to come out of my oven...Christmas Inspired Sourdough Bread. With snowy pine trees circling each loaf, It's almost too beautiful to eat! But...it's delicious, and therefore it will be enjoyed immediately, if not sooner!

Marcy this is exactly what I was thinking of giving out as gifts this year for a few people. Every year we bake different varieties of treats and give out to friends. Last year I didn't do it because I was in a funk missing my Mom. I will continue this year because I have to keep our tradition of giving alive. Just like she taught me. Your bread came out beautiful.❤
Awe. I didn't realize you lost your mother. I'm so sorry about that. Like you said, you've got to keep the tradition alive, and in that way you honor her. These sourdough loaves would make a fantastic gift. I gave one of these away and we cut into the other one, but I am definitely planning on making more before Christmas to give as gifts.

Wow Marcy you are so talented your bread absolutely beautiful and i bet it’s delicious too. My husband and i are going to Santa Fe tomorrow we are spending a couple of nights there so Friday we will go to Albuquerque for a few hours.

Marcy I just stumbled onto your channel and all of your food looks amazing. I'm definitely going to tackle sourdough. I heard in one of your videos you were from La Mesa. My father grew up there. The Saenz's and the Benavides' are all my family. It's been way too long since I've been back.
I'm happy you found my channel. The Saenz were our neighbors. Our house was just behind theirs on that little dirt road, and Patty Saenz was my closest friend. And, of course, everyone knows the Benavides family because of Chope's. What's your father's name? There's a good chance I know him. 😊
My dad's name was Jesus and my grandparents were Martin and Maria ..they lived across the street a little ways down from Chope's. My grandmother Maria and Lupe were sisters. Watching your videos makes me so homesick for the food.

I can't tell you how many times I've tried to make a sourdough starter and failed! I just can't find that groove for some reason! The saddest part about it is that I LOVE sourdough bread, so I'm a slave to Whole Foods! Someday, someday..... Sadness in the barrio....
That is sadness in the barrio! Lol You can order a sourdough starter from kingarthurbaking.com Then you just have to worry about feeding it and keeping it alive, but it's way easier than you think.
Try making your cuts in the dough a little deeper to help guide the cracks where you want them.
Marcy, just curious how long does it take you to cut the design?
It took me about 7 or 8 minutes. I'm sure I can do it faster next time, now that I have it down.
