You are the only guy I have found on youtube that does real reviews. In all reviews you tell the pros first and then cons at the end which is actually a cool thing. But in this review, what I realized was that there are no cons in terms of the ROG ultimate edition. Because, this is actually a gaming phone and ASUS have targeted their audience, they don't need to acquire the whole audience.
I would argue that Gamers Nexus, Jay's 2 cents and LTT/Short Circuit do real reviews. But I think here he goes out on the false pretenses of "wow I wish everyone would want this phone" rather than "this is a smash hit for gamers and ROG hit their mark for the audience they had in mind" and actually it's why I like Linus Tech Tips. Because he will say things like, "Now this probably isn't a product you would want if you are just an average phone user, but for their market audience of gamers, this hits the mark"
Correction, it's not gonna be running on infinity stone but it's gonna be the infinity stone. At least Arun will have 'Thanos knocking on his door' to worry about than camera.😂😂
The real thing missing here is the ability to dock and go into desktop mode like Samsung DEX. With these specs, there’s no reason it couldn’t handily beat most entry level desktop PCs at a huge set of tasks.
I am actually using it like that quite often, on my Lenovo docking station, and running Windows via my company remote desktop. It works almost as well as my ThinkPad.
No way lol. First off that could never run a PC game due to compatability. And even if it could it would perform horrifically. RAM isn't everything. The integrated Adreno 660 in it has incredible performance on a smartphone,but horrific performance for a desktop PC.

If you want an amazing camera in a GAMING PHONE made by The REPUBLIC OF GAMERS, I think you've completely missed the core of the products very existence. If they were to put in a flagship modern camera unit into the current ROG it would cost upwards of $1500 maybe even more, making it ludicrous beyond reason. Not to mention it's size and weight would be no doubt be increased or other features needed to be removed to accommodate the module. What are you even doing with a *gaming phone* where you need an amazing camera at a times? Taking selfies while jamming to some TDM? Posting to Insta or Twit.ter. mid capture the flag rounds or between races? Seriously wtf? Are you such a narcissist or photophile that you just absolutely need a great camera at all times? I agree with a lot of the comments saying that listening to the market that they were the biggest in to begin with, and making those features better, refining them and sticking with that niche of people does more for them in the long run than it does to just broaden their horizons in every other way just so other people can feel included. Don't get me wrong, going broad isn't always a bad thing, but if you screw up with the people who made you who you are you eventually lose them outright.
Aloha Arun from Maui, I just wanted to say you continually put out quality videos that I really appreciate. It seems that UA-cams algorithms seem to really be pushing your fail videos over your positive videos or even your reviews of tech. While I still enjoy those videos and the care you put into what seems to be every second of them I wish there would be more of the positive type. Either way continue doing what you're doing! I find your videos to be worth watching which is much more than I can say for the direction that UA-cam is heading. Keep up the good work keep kicking butt. It's good that ASUS is aiming for certain groups instead of the whole public imo because as larger companies fight to conquer a large part of the market, they have already secured a small spot that no one will probably take away from them
They can if that's what competition decides to do but u know they won't until that group grows bigger and bigger and it will some day ... Look at how the gaming market has grown it's just a matter of time ...
Indeed a few years back Xiaomi launched their own gaming phone called black shark and it's already gaining popularity among low budget gamers because it's cheaper and also offers competitive specs as ROG phones. I'm excited for the future of gaming phones as games nowadays are becoming more and more enjoyable to play compared to 5 years ago.

I'm sure they already knew mobile gaming will be the future as it's already happening now. Soon they'll dominate the gaming industry as they not only focus in making gaming phones and laptops but also other gaming stuffs.
Yeah, I'd love to see more phones focus on particular uses instead of the typical "jack of all trades, and master of none" kind of phones that are directed to the masses. Obviously it can be a bit more of a gamble(RIP Razer phones), but as a consumer I'm a lot more impressed with gamer phones than I am with iPhones and Samsung Galaxy/Pixel type phones.(and that's coming from someone who's more of a novice gamer than someone who'd be able to take full advantage of the features of a gamer phone)
I've always been an LG fan as audio is the most important feature to me. I will definitely consider this phone when I need a replacement. It would probably sound great with my Schitt headphone amp and Sundera headphones. With LG no longer making phones I need to another good sounding phone. I'm open to suggestions.

Just saying, I had the ROG Phone 1 and ROG Phone 3, and both of their displays randomly died after about a year. No falls, no water damage...nothing. I’m not rushing to get the ROG Phone 5 myself personally. Regardless, great review! 😄

Well, at least Asus knows their market and their audience. We’ve seen many smartphone companies fail for the reason that they don’t know who their target market is and how to build and market a phone around that.
Though a lot of gamers also want a good camera. Also if they made a program where you could use it as a mini display for your pc, so you could watch a vid or display PC stats while gaming, that would be a massive selling point for gamers. Sorta like Sony's phone and the connection to their camera's

Asus knew the market too much that they focused on e-gamer competitive players which covers 5% of the gamer enthusiasts. Is it a good thing, yes. But as Arun said, Asus focused too much on aesthetics and gaming options that they did not improve some features of a flagship phone.
My biggest complaint to asus is lack of longterm support for a phone that is twice that of the cost of competitors... support needs extended more than a couple of years.
I mean ok so that is an e-waste issue. I have lots of chargers already, granted none are fast, so make it an optional item that’s included if you want it. What Apple did with the cable, changing it to usb c when previous chargers were usb a, that’s bullshit.
Will the ROG 5 be getting OTA updates? Because I can tell you that I have heard that Asus is a little bit slow, if at all: to support their devices through ongoing software updates, and that would be a game-changer for me in that instead of buying the Global version, I would get the Tencent iteration, use until obsolete, save a lot of money, and call it disposable.
Basing on your final thoughts, it might sound like this: Gaming performance + media performance (camera, etc) = Ultimately recommendable If it'll be on the next upgrade, I'll definitely go for it.

ROG and Nubia have been making their phones the longest and thus might be safer bets(and would therefore presumably have the most cases availabile), but based on what I've seen of Lenovo's gaming phone... The thing is the camera is Good. Not as good as on the S21 Ultra but something doesn't need to be the best in order to be very good.

Will the ROG 5 be getting OTA updates? Because I can tell you that I have heard that Asus is a little bit slow, if at all: to support their devices through ongoing software updates, and that would be a game-changer for me in that instead of buying the Global version, I would get the Tencent iteration, use until obsolete, save a lot of money, and call it disposable.
Basing on your final thoughts, it might sound like this:
Gaming performance + media performance (camera, etc) = Ultimately recommendable
If it'll be on the next upgrade, I'll definitely go for it.
