Hey man I'm 56 years old and you're doing music that's right up my alley. My generation had some of the best music ever. And I really appreciate that you recognize and appreciate it also. Dr hook was an awesome group too. When you're in love with a beautiful woman is a favorite. But most of their music was good. Keep rolling them out brother!!!
Dr. Hook. Baby makes her Blue Jeans Talk.... not a great song by any stretch but Holy Heck... the women in that video are...off the Hook .
@@chestrockwell8328...... Yes they were...... Sharing the night together was an awesome song to play while out with your girl......
He ain't your brother and Dr hook was....... well, you know the thang
@@lindalowney1404..... I've always enjoyed Dr Hooks music...... Great band.
This song came out in the late 60s when most songs still had to be two and half minutes to get on top 40 radio.
Generally speaking, 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, but there were some exceptions-most notably Hey Jude by the Beatles.
@@mikefannon6994 Actually, his first hit was huge locally, and is still considered Detroit's theme song by us oldsters. It was played every weekend by CKLW Windsor. It was called Heavy Music, and it was with his previous band, Bob Seger and the Last Heard.
The backup vocals are Glenn Frey from The Eagles.
Yeah, and it was before the Eagles. Bob was 21 years old when he took an 18 year old Glenn Frey under his wing. On this track Bob said Glenn was singing as loud as he could to make sure his voice would be heard.
@gblueslover2 this was Glenn's first time in a recording studio if I remember right.
@@blacklabel25j I heard that story too. I also like the advice Bob gave Glenn about "you gotta write songs." Glenn said "but what if they suck?" Bob says,"Oh they're gonna suck, but just keep writing, you'll get a good one." Or something like that. lol
Listen to his live album LIVE BULLET... one of the best live albums ever recorded. These songs are in it but the live versions are amazing.
Seger is the man bro.
This, along with Heavy Music and Kathmandu on Live Bullet back to back. The best!
I agree. Live Bullet is amazing. Saw him live in Montreal for the tour they recorded "Nine Tonight" on. Great live band.
A read an article that said that Seger had the “Perfect Rock & Roll voice.”........I would have to agree!
The Live Bullet album recorded in Detroit Mich is the best, coolest Live recording ever made. Seger rock-n-roll soul from beginning to end.
Best live album I gotta give to Live at Leeds by The Who but Live Bullet is up there! And that’s a compliment in and of itself.
To your point, the live version of Ramblin Gamblin Man is better than this. the only thing better about this version is how much harder and stronger the drums come in on the intro.
Train Train by Blackfoot will blow you’re mind 👍 a must
Shawn Christie ... hell yes... also check out "In 2 Deep" by Kenny Wayne Shepherd ... badass song.
Yes! One of the best songs by (IMHO) the best Southern rock band of them all.
Live version of Travelin Man/Beautiful Loser off of Live Bullet!!!!!! amazing!!!!!
@@gregscupholm254 I saw Bob Seger perform 5X in the 70's. Live Bullet will forever be one of the greatest albums of all time.
Ramblin Gamblin Man, thank you Bob Seger for one of the greatest songs I've ever heard! This song is pure rock and roll, pure fun!
I am 70 years old. This is my favorite song in the world❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bob seger was the best i grew up listening to him my dad use to play him alot in the 70s
Finally an Early Seger reaction! A bit of trivia: Glenn Frey was one of the backing vocalists. He said he never joined Bob’s band because his mom worried he’d get into trouble working with Bob, who she saw as a bad influence. Thanks for the Deep Dive, Jamel! Not saying to publish the video I’m linking here but it’s an early live version that is crazy. Notice the drummer’s overhead toms. ua-cam.com/video/sFlI4ceQOiU/v-deo.html
Joe Casey Glenn’s mom caught him and Seger indulging on the devils lettuce.
Watched the video. That was awesome. Honestly, though, I thought Bob was born with that beard...
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing.
The ironic thing is that the Eagles became one of the biggest party bands in Classic Rock history
nice! Crazy to think Frey backed Bob Seger , and Frey/Henley backed Linda Ronstadt. I am glad they went out on their own as a huge Eagles fan
"Heavy Music" is a great song from this period of his career...Bob's early days are filled with treasures like this, and more rolled out through the 70's and 80's...He tells us the stories of his life set to music, and the Wurlitzer organ you here is a signature sound of his work throughout his catalog...🎹
Wow can't believe I'm the first to watch, all because I was playing around looking in your playlists and saw this one and was like when did you react to this. How did I miss it. Oh it's new. Now we still need We've Got Tonight, Rock and Roll Never Forgets, Roll Me Away, and The Fire Inside.
Makes me realize I'm not getting notifications fast enough when new videos come up. lol Cause I tell you I'm living for these reactions.
Please react to Shame on the moon! Its really a great song! Roll me away is too!
I'm one of the people who requested this one. Thank you, Jamel! Enjoy!
“Fire Lake” and “Shame on the Moon”! Yes indeed.
You'd like You'll Accompany Me!
Those were performers who KNEW their voices and their strengths, and played to them as much as they could, especially when they were writing their own songs.
Songs back in the days of am radio were kept under 3 minutes in order to get airplay. It wasn't until fm came about that longer songs got on the air.
The albums usually had longer songs, but they weren't released as singles. Then the late night FM
DJs just did what they wanted.
I remember this coming out living in Detroit, it was like he lit the city up with this. Detroit was still riding high from the Tigers winning the World Series the previous year.
I live in Minneapolis I wish Bob Seger lit up our city, but ours got lit up in a different way....Head still held high though I got a Jamel attitude
@@rattnroll84 Lots of Detroit memories coming up for me this week: attending Cass Tech HS, living in Detroit thru the riots and then the joy of the city coming together for the World Series win. So many tears this week, really needing some signs of hope!

Been a Bob Seger fan for more than 50 years...love his music...it is truly the soundtrack of my life...you really should give a listen to Katmandu and Get Out of Denver...not to mention the entire Live Bullet album! Love that you call him Brother Bob!
Live Bullet is up there with my favorite live albums,,
Now you're gettin' to the great Seger stuff. Live Bullet, man! Change your life.
This is one of the very few Bob Seger tracks I love. That funky keyboard groove is so cool, and Bob's vocal is amazing.
Glad to see you enjoying Bob Seger. He truly has a perfect voice. Life long fan ! He has a lot of great songs that you can review. There aren’t any bad ones. Enjoy !!
This is actually my favourite song from him and one of his earliest. Back in the day songs couldn't be more than 3 minutes to get air play. Eventually bands stretched out their songs and the radio stations had no choice but to play longer songs. Stay safe my friend. ✌
Go back a little and check out "persecution smith and 2+2 earlier than Ramblin gamblin man
@@davidneighbors9237 Holy smokes!!! I forgot about persecution smith! I might have been 10yo!
Glenn Frey's vocals in the first chorus are brilliant!
@@maryblack2622 Yeah at the start of Glenn's career Bob Seger took him under his wing and helped him get started.

Bob Seger IS GREAT! Been a fan of. Bob & The Silver Bullet Band since early 70’s when I heard Turn The Page. Have to agree with others that Sunspot Baby is yet Another Hit by BrotherBob. Rock On!!!
More Bob Seger please keep digging my friend try"sunspot baby","travelin man/beautiful loser","fire lake","shame on the moon","famous final scene","Betty Lou's getting out tonight" and plenty more. ☮️ Out
don't forget The Sea Inside, Get out of Denver, Black Nights the list goes on
This song was released In 1969. In that era, songs had to be 3 minutes or less to ever get any airplay. Song still passes the test of time being 51 years old.
Jamal, just wait to you react to the songs on "LIVE BULLET"🔥🔥🔥 He's one of these artists that amps it up live and with "Live Bullet" its recorded in our hometown of Detroit (he's actually from Ann Arbor) so its extra good❗
I have the Live Bullet cassette in my Harley now!
🎶I think I'm goin to Katmandu.. 🎶
I like him calling Bob Seger, "Brother Bob"
FIRST SONG HE RELEASED.........THE REST IS HIS-STORY.
Jamal, my wife and I think there are a few songs from Seger's first live album that YOU need to check out. The album is Live Bullet (a great live album) and it’s on UA-cam. A lot of people won’t suggest these because they weren’t national hits and they don’t get played on the classic rock stations. They are early Seger just before he hit big nationally. But you’ll dig ‘em and the Silver Bullet Band SHINES on these songs! I saw them in the day and you would have loved it. My wife and I enjoy your joy and your spirit. Get Funky! Peace! The songs: [1] Nutbush City Limits (a cover of an old Ike and Tina Turner song) [2] Bo Diddley [3] Heavy Music
@@venessalee2426 One of the great live albums for sure. It gives a sense of putting you in the same space as the audience. Fortunately, I got to be a audience member a few times in my life beginning on June 24, 1978. Live Bullet is one of my desert island albums. --- Jamal, you should check out more tracks from this record. You'd dig it.
I was born in 1975, so unfortunately I couldn’t be in the audience in the early days, but I was fortunate enough to see him 4 years ago and last year when he was on his final tour.
Saw him in person! All I can say is WOW! EVERY song perfection especially Like A Rock and Roll Me Away 🔥
I've been fortunate to see him 4 times! Last time in Raleigh NC a year ago, his last your. He is the best!!
Still my favorite. Love the raw youthful energy from it!💗
Not to mention that Glenn Frey from the Eagles sang backup on this. Bob Seger gave him his start.
Thank you for liking my aspirations and being one of my biggest fan, hope you don’t stop someday?
The first song of his that got serious airplay, mostly on Midwest rock stations.
I saw this by looking at your playlist. Watching now. 💕💕
Bob's made some of the best driving/riding songs of all time. You can't keep it under 90 when Bob's at the wheel!
This is how Bob Seger burst on the scene.
Pure power.
I'm so used to the live version of this one. His voice is so rich on the live version. Thanks!
Yup, the vocal delivery is just so much better. It's as if a few days after the original was released, he gave a listen, and went, "dag, should've done this different, and changed this like that..." Then went out on the road, and implemented those improvements.
A great example of perfection in orchestrating the instruments they had!
I appreciate your love towards my music hope you don’t stop liking my aspirations?
My best friend and I would go to the Avenue Bar at ages 16 &17 to drink a few beers. Bob the bartender never asked our ages. This song was on the juke box and we played it over and over. After 3 beers we were "loaded" and went to play basketball. 1969.what great memories!
Brave Strangers, Til It Shines, Feel Like A Number
Thanks you for your kind words and thank you for choosing my music how long have you been listening to my music
Wow, Greetings, Merry Christmas. I'm not sure how old I was when I first heard your music but I sure remember when Stranger In Town came out. My step Dad was a huge fan and played the album constantly. We were living in New Brunswick in 78 Dad and a buddy flew to Montreal to catch your show and he could barely speak for 3 days because he was so 🐎 from cheering. Stanger In Town is easily one of the MUST have albums of all time. Cheers brother.

The next artist you should do a bunch of reactions to is Jackson Browne. One of the silkiest and smoothest voices ever in my opinion ("Sky Blue and Black", "Somebody's Baby", "Stay", and "I'm the Cat").
Yes "In the Shape of a Heart" and The Pretender thrown in. Also Sweet Baby Blues lesser known.
I bought my first 45 from Bob Seger, at the door of a place called Mount Holly. He was selling them out of a cardboard box. I can't remember the year, but many birthdays have passed since then. I think he was probably somewhere between 17-22 and I thought he was the best-looking thing I had ever seen.
Jamel, here is the best compliment in the world; "I believe you've got some Detroit in your soul."
Please react to Shame on the Moon! It's one of Bob's best songs! I think you will like it, especially the piano!👍😊
One of Seger's very few hits that
he didn't write, written by
Rodney Crowell.
Bob Seger System, very early stuff. Before the Silver Bullet Band.
Graduated HS 1969 in Chicago, went to Detroit area for the summer to hang out with a friend. Got a job driving an ice cream truck and wow....this song hits the airwaves on WXYZ with Joel Sebastian and Dick Biondi. Everybody was like wow, who is this guy and this song.
Just found your channel and watched this episode as the 1st. Love Bob Seger. The name of that old band when he recorded this in 1969 was “The Bob Seger System” He’s been kickin’ ass for a long long time. Great show and you have a new subscriber!
Finally! Live bullet version is the definitive version though.
I thank you Jamel, cuz I forgot how much I love Bob Seger!!!
Yep. We had some SANGERS back in the day. Artists that could evoke emotions with just the sound of their voice. Didn't matter what they were singing about. Wish I could go back to those days.
We used to have Sock Hops in Jr High in the cafeteria & this song takes me back.
Oh man! I forgot all about this Bob Seger song! Great review!

In 69, Bob was traveling all the time filling small venues and rocking the roofs off! Rambling on to the next and gambling his luck with the local ladies. Pretty good lyrics from a very young man back then. So glad you went back in his catalog. Check out 2 plus 2 and his cover of "if I were a carpenter" from his early days.
You really need to listen to Let it Rock on his live album Live Bullet. I listened to it all the time as a kid riding in the car with my dad, a highlight of my childhood.
Man I watched it in the list earlier and didn't even look when it was put up. Love this song and love your vids man
Bob started playing and singing at a young age (...just 13 when I had to leave home) therefore; had to gamble on himself and travel for his art and income. He was /is a real, sweet Midwest boy extraordinaire, not a party animal but, of our generation and, time. He is timeless national treasure. Thanks for your excellent picks and show as well as sharing your thoughts 👏🏼☮️💕🎼🎵🎶💋The Church organ is a Hammond B3.
This song has such a bounce to it! So much soul and a little bit of a church feel!
React to his song Roll Me Away... It's a great "short movie", not just a song.
Had to search for a reaction to this song. Most people know it was Bob Seger’s first US hit, peaking at #17. What many people don’t know is who sang backing vocals for it.
Glenn Frey had his first studio gig singing back-up and playing guitar on "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man".
Glenn Frey is a founding member of the SuperGroup, the Eagles.
My Band open for Bob in Jackson Michigan in 1967. Great Guy
Heavy Music is the best of his early singles.

He is the best singer back in the 70s, still number one.
Seger was introduced to me in the early 70's by two friends in the Navy that grew up in Michigan and saw him in some small venues when he started!
Pentrating voice with a hard driving beat - Bob Seger was made for the 60's. I think we lost him recently to a future we cannot see nor touch. But, the music is enshrined here on the Web. I was 11 when Bob first came on the radio, but after a short gap he became the Bob we all know. Such good music cannot be ignored, it permeats my soul and sends me into a frenzy. I am glad I have the LP version still, only played Ten or so times to make an analog tape that wore out eventually. Then I digitized it, put it on a CD so it would last longer. So I was an early fan of the "silver bullet band" that came about after the "system" died, but the bullet band came about in "73" and Bob was on a permanent run. I had to leave home in 69 after a stint in Woodstock and they threw me out when I returned from that galvanizing part of my life. The 60's was a turbulent time for me, all the really great bands were there, or forming. Disco sucked, but the Acid rockers made up for the wussy pop singers. A driving beat and good lyrics is all I needed.
In the background vocals if you listen clearly you can hear a teenage Glen Fry. He was set to join Seger's band on the road, the story goes, until Fry's mom found his pot stash...

Bob Segar wrote and sang this song at the age of 17!!!!!!!! And it's the voice of Glenm Frey, who was 13 at the time. If you don't know him. He went on to form the Eagles. He wasn't allowed to hang around Bob soon after this was recorded because his mom caught him and Bob smoking weed.
Dude's got soul. Always had it. I've been listening to Seeger's "Fire Lake" almost constantly the last couple of days, and I just realized that that song is a perfect counterpart to "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man".
