    Well, can't thank you enough. In less time than it took to watch this video, my washer is draining again! It was the lid\switch. The plastic nubbin that forces the switch down was fine, but the switch was loose, so it didn't depress it far enough. You saved me $$$ AND big headache. I passed it on, donating $100 to a student fundraiser. Figure you saved me at least that much.

      A, buy an older machine. There's a guy on YT who collects them from the 50s and 60s. They'd have an agitator and yes, you can leave the lid open.
      I've known baby diaper machines that were so tiny, you could fit one big towel in the spinner (not a dryer, lol), but it was much smaller than a 6 foot counter, tho.

    I opened my side load washing machine and found out it hadn’t drained any of the water. Like the scene 3/4 of the way in the Titanic when the Hall ways started to get filled up with water just gushing out of this thing. @ least if you have one that you load from the top, you won’t look like you’ve been at a water park all day when you figure out your washing machine doesn’t drain.

    Hi I just ordered a drain pump from you guys hooked it up & it seems to be draining now but there is water sitting in the barrel. I can hear it draining but for some reason it's a few inches left over in the barrel. All hoses are clear from any obstructions & like I said I just ordered a new drain pump from you guys. Also, it seems to be getting stuck when it's suppose to drain & do the spin cycles. I think it's the timer...

    I keep washing machines for a long time and repair them until it just gets too expensive. I have had the problem where it wont drain several times. Most of the times it was the lid switch. This is the easiest thing to check first. One time it was a bad pump. This is a lot more diffecult to repair than the lid switch. Check the safety switch first. You dont have to take any panels off on most models. Unplug the washer before removing the switch since you will have a live wire exposed when the switch is removed.

  • @arunthomas189

    This was awesome video! For me, it was the lid switch assembly. The plastic lid switch assembly broke off its mounting position. The screws are still attached to the body of the washer but the mounting holes on the switch assembly was cracked and dislodged. Since the switch was never engaged, the washer would not move on to drain mode. I think the lid switch assembly broke of its mounting due to time (15 yrs of use) and occasional slamming of the lid during that time period.

    My problem is the water did not drain. It did not complete the cycle. It starts when i pull out the knob to start the cycle but it does not go past that. It does agitate, so that is not the problem. I have not taken it apart yet but that is next.

    • @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
      @windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Рік тому

      Yeah, but on some agitator types (before they got rid of them), you can have the lid open UNTIL the spin cycle, as I recall it. That's where mine locks up. So, lid latch, clog or the pump.
      Go with easiest and cheapest first.
      Hose and drain. If you know a plumber. Then lid lock. Then pump in back.

    Thank you very much for your video...again. Thought for sure that we had a defective timer fault in our old Whirlpool washer that was not draining nor spinning near the end. Was considering to buy another unit and then saw this video. The true root cause was the lid switch I had removed to gain access to the internals of the washer for a drum alignment. The rinse / drain cycle demands that the lid be closed or the switch bypassed. Short answer - pressed harder on the top lid and it all works again. Will remove and re-install the position of the lid switch so it closes properly. Many thanks for your advice and videos.

    For anyone womdering that meter is junk. It should read OL (open lead) if the lid switch or motor is bad. Not whatever letter this video was showing. Never even seen that letter reading on any meter in my life. But then again i have a $300 ohm meter and not some cheapo. Good functioning switch should read about 0.2 ohms. Good motor probably about 0.2-0.6 ohms.

    Hi, I have the exact apposite problem, my samsung top loader is draining continuously.
    Started happening few days back, does not happen always but sometimes.
    usually when it starts the rinse cycle, it starts to take water from tap but at the same time its draining also.
    I tried checking by opening the back cover for probable cause.
    what I observed is, there is a valve below the tub (its enclosed in tub though) is pulled open by the motor so to drain out the water and once the water is drained out, the valve is released in instant and it sits back on its place blocking the drain outlet.
    The valve opening works every time perfectly but closing doesn't happen at times.
    I tried starting the spin cycle manually and as it just starts to spin, opened the lid so as to stop the machine with a jerk, and this closes the drain valve immediately every time.
    What I am trying to figure out is, Is it the motor (probably this is known as drain motor but only thing this motor does is to pull the valve and release) at fault but it doesn't seem to be because its opening the valve without problem.
    next probability is, is there some kind of sensor that doesn't understand that the tub is empty and so the valve is kept open.
    Because this is not happening all the time I don't want to change the motor at first go.
    Will be glad if you can guide me on this. Thanks.
    (P.S. not due to siphoning because its working in same position for last ten years.)

    • @dontheshark
      @dontheshark 6 років тому

      Sounds like you have a siphoning problem. Just take drain hose out of drain and be sure it is not wedged. It must have air space around hose.

    one question, mine doesn't drain but i already test the pump, I know that what is happening if that is not receiving the 120volts , my washer is doing everything else but draining the water.

    No refunds if they tell you wrong solution. Buy parts somewhere else. I learned the hard way.

    in western countries, the trend is to just replace the defective/damaged part, instead of actually repairing it. in comparison, videos made by those in poorer countries, is more informative bcos they actually repair things instead of just replacing them.
