Used to drive Phoenix San Diego a lot, so knew what was coming up every inch of the road - like the Deer Crossing sign that always gets a red reflector added to it. Only surprise was the wind farm as you climb out of Imperial Valley. Thanks for posting this.
Damn... I used to make this trip twice a month back between 1975-1978. I put 35K miles on a brandnew 1975 Chevy LUV truck IN ONE YEAR, doing this trip back/forth and trips to LA during the trips. I was stationed at the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds, 26 miles by US95 north of Yuma.
Boring flat drive from Yuma to El Centro. Basically flat until you reach the mountains. There are definitely a few steep hills going towards SD, but nothing too extreme. I always felt the incline more going back towards Yuma, as it’s a steeper grade

Hilly or no?

I took the 8 instead of 40 . What a mistake. 40 is gorgeous compared to this boring 8
