Thank you I hafta drive from Casa Gande to San Diego and your video is showing me what to expect in the drive so I can better familiarize myself with what's to come
States and Time Zones (Time zone info below. The timestamp is Pacific Daylight Time I think, but the local time is Pacific Standard Time, so the clock on the timestamp did not change an hour back on the first Sunday of November 2015 which ended DST. Then it is the same time as Mountain Standard Time.) 0:14 Arizona begins departing at 8:19am MST I think. 13:49 Entering California and Pacific Time Zone, Leaving Arizona and Arizona Time Zone (Changes 1 hour behind from 10:38am MST to 9:38am PST I think. It does have a time zone change in the winter and in the summer it doesn't) Arrival time in San Diego, CA is at 12:02pm PST I think.
This was in February according to the date, so Arizona would be an hour ahead of California. In the summer, it's the same time in AZ as CA because MST and PDT are both GMT-7.
Sir, when you get to Indio, leave I-10 and take CA-86 (Coachella Valley Expressway) to El Centro (about 2 hours), then catch I-8 eastbound. This route is another "Phoenix Bypass" and a much smoother, less traffic route.
I was looking up I-8 to show a friend the straight path to San Diego from Casa Grande since I used to live there. This is so wild, I would have never expected a video like this to exist.
another 'Phoenix bypass' (assuming going to LA) would be to take I-8 all the way to El Centro, Ca, then take Ca-86 (a good four lane divided highway) north (on west side of Salton Sea) and will rendezvous with I-10 in Indio, Ca. Advantage here is that I-8 has a small fraction of the traffic that I-10 does, and by the time 86 runs into I-10, I-10 is six lanes. Also I-10 climbs a summit and trucks can bog down the freeway going up the hill.
I just drove this last week, So, just before California 79 interchange, I noticed something flat and smoky blue on the horizon. Is that the Pacific Ocean visible from that far inland? I noticed it on this video too, about 24:00 in.
That’s not the Pacific Ocean, that’s the marine layer that burns off near the coast around noon (which is more or less the time at the video). So that dark haze blue are clouds above the ocean, but not the ocean itself. You can see the ocean as far back as Alpine just not on I-8
Sara P you’re very lucky & very fortunate to live in the Civilized San Diego area which is a lot better than the Loser City Tucson area & the Phoenix area where tailgating is a sport. It’s a lot safer to drive in the Civilized San Diego area.
I live in Yuma. That fact was true until just a couple months ago. Yuma is now number 2 in unemployment. Currently, number 1 in unemployment is Yuma's neighbor to the west, El Centro.
Yuma looks like a cool place! Too bad unemployment is so high there but I would still love to see it. Arizona looks cool. Flew to San Diego from the east and got to see it from the plane but that's it.
The unemployment is high in Yuma because of the seasonal nature of the jobs here. The workers are forced to go on unemployment. If they didn't have to do that, the unemployment rate in Yuma would be cut in half, at the minimum.
I used to live in the Civilized San Diego are! But very unfortunately I ended up in the damned Barbarian, 1870's, Sh@thole, Loser City Tucson area because of the 1990's military base closures & realignments that hit & hurt CA, PA,NJ,NY,CO,WA,FL,TX,IL,IN,RI,ME between 1993 & 1999. I'm always glad to make it home to the Civilized San Diego area. I'm selling everything I own that I don't need & don't want and when that's all done, I will be returning home to the Philippines my second country via the Civilized San Diego area & live out my life in the Philippines where my heart is.

25:19 Alpine CA unexpected snowfall one springtime drive through there. But on a clear day you can see the ocean in the distance.

Thanks for making this! Will be driving out to CA from FL this summer. Usually take I10 all the way. Always wondered what I8 was like. Now I know! :)

good truck stop for a break and gas up in Gila Bend

That's so weird that I-8 past the In-Ko-Pah Gorge and Devil's Canyon leans on the Imperial-San Diego County Line!
13:37 - 13:46 in Yuma, Arizona looks kind of like Interstate 8 in El Centro, California.
Thank you for reminding me of the training life of one year in San Diego.

In California's Imperial Valley, I-8 goes through sand dunes.
That’s cool!
Fuckin cowboy stuff
Awesome video! Pretty different than the 2012 ride along video. Very amazing! 😎
Yeah, I agree.
Nice mix of terrain, river basin, hills, desert, sand dunes, miles of upland huge boulders, views into san San Diego

15:24 USA-Mexico border in the distance!
Ah yes, how my dad got into the US
@@diego2023-t9fsame 😂
23:58 why is there an int’l border patrol in CA when going through CA?
Because it's near of the border, and they are to find illegal immigrants
You drive right by my neighborhood. Right off the Severin exit in La Mesa
I used to live on Westwind

This lamb also loves this video and its homage to the 2012 video. Fun fact, Yuma Arizona has the largest unemployment rate in the country.

Also you got LUCKY with the line at the immigration checkpoint. You snuck ahead of tons of other vehicles.
There is an immigration check point Westbound on I-8 just before the Pine Valley Exit 47 and in Arizona Eastbound at mile marker 16.

Yuma is not yummy. Great video.
I beg to differ. The place is becoming known as a foodie destination.
