  • Have you ever wanted to drive the SAR Rx class 4-6-0? Well now's your chance! This is my virtual model of the Rx class I have made for Trainz Simulator 19 and later, covering all operational variants from 1949 to the present day, available to download for free on my website!
Here are the links to my website where you can install them for free:
    SAR - virtualsteamra...
    ARHS - virtualsteamra...
This model comes with an original interior with working controls, authentic sounds, changeable destination boards, headboards and extras, PBR textures and 20 different loco variants and 12 tender variants!
The SAR Rx class was a series of 84 4-6-0 'ten wheeler' locomotives built between 1886 and 1916, over a 30 year period. 15 were initially built as R class locomotives abroad by Dubs & Co and locally by James Martin but these were later converted to Rx's around 1899 with higher powered and more efficient Belpaire boilers. These were the most predominant class of broad gauge locomotive in South Australia until the introduction of the much larger Webb engines in 1926. A group of Rx's, mainly some of the rebuilt ones were withdrawn and scrapped from 1927 to 1938, however the remainder of the class served on branch lines, shunting and light goods work until the mid to late 60's. Today, 10 Rx class locomotives still survive in preservation, including 5 plinthed in parks/playgrounds, 3 statically preserved and two in operational condition which are currently owned by SteamRanger Heritage Railway. This Trainz model represents how the class appeared in the 1950's and 60's, towards the end of steam operations in South Australia.
Rx207 is a North British built Rx, built in Glasgow in 1913 as a superheated variant of a R class, joining 83 other examples including the Rx's rebuilt from R class locomotives. The class was built for mixed traffic service on the Adelaide-Wolseley line, although was relegated to branch line use from the 1920's onwards. Towards the end of steam on the SAR, the last survivors of the class were put on shunting duties, and the occasional tour by the ARHS. In the 1960's, SteamRanger director Dean Harvey set aside 207 and 224 for preservation, which eventually became part of the SteamRanger collection. Rx207 has been in almost constant service with SteamRanger since, especially on school holiday Cockle Trains.
Rx224 is SteamRanger's other Rx class, being built in 1915 by Walkers Ltd, Maryborough, as with a saturated boiler rather than a superheated one, like 207. The engine was donated to SteamRanger in working order, some time in the 1960s and spent the next few decades hauling tours on the dwindling broad gauge network. The engine was taken out of service around 1990 due to a mechanical faliure and has slowly been restored back to operational condition.
There are currently 2 versions of the in service Rx class locomotives and 6 different tender types available for you to download both in accurate Broad Gauge as well as the Rob/Victrainz compatible Standard Gauge.
    Loco variants: Saturated and Superheated
Tender Variants: Tapered Out, Normal, Tapered In, Self Trimming 6 wheel and Original 6 wheel.
There are currently 5 versions of Rx207 and 3 variants of Rx224 for you to download both in accurate Broad Gauge as well as the Rob/Victrainz compatible Standard Gauge.
    Rx207 Variants:
1973+ - black numberplate, no piping shrike
    1980+ - red numberplate (uses 1973+ tender)
2000+ - red numberplate and strobe light
2004+ - red numberplate, SteamRanger logo and strobe light (uses 2000+ tender)
2015+ - red numberplate, strobe light, mechanical lubricator and no logo (uses 2000+ tender)
    Rx224 variants:
1973+ - black numberplate, no piping shrike
    1980+ - red numberplate (uses 1973+ tender)
2021+ - blue numberplate, satin paint, mechanical lubricator and strobe light
A special thanks to all the contributors who helped me make this locomotive:

Hello, thankyou for helping me out with Trainz2019, I'm still learning all the features. I have downloaded the MT Barker TO Victor Harbour route and it is all downloaded along with dependencies but some dependencies say "Unknown Asset" therefor it says missing dependencies, and when I try to download them it says "asset not on download station" how do I fix this?

Hey mate I've addressed this issue with a few people already now but I feel my content is not good enough at it's current state, so I'm working on improving some of my models and will have the website back up some time soon. I am also extremely busy with my studies at the momenr and do not have any spare time to work on said projects for a little while longer. Thanks for understanding

Not good enough? are u kidding mate, they are awesome!! you should be proud of what you are doing, in fact if u had a donations setup i would donate to it. You have filled a hole many have been searching for with fantastic SAR loco's. I was horrified when the site was down thinking that was it! really look forward to your new work and good luck with your studies.

@@brynchanning7266 Honestly, what you've just said there is probably the nicest thing I've ever heard regarding my Trainz models. I'm happy that they are of value to someone, really means a lot to me, to hear a compliment about all the work i've put into them.
I've not had a good experience of the online Trainz community due to the general toxicity of some of the people, so the way things stand now is that there is no content "group" anymore but I am still working on my own projects as a sole creator. Thanks for your respect towards my work, I've put my all into it.

Mate, the world is full of armchair complainers who just seem to have nothing better to do, its sad really. The Rx mod is just fantastic and the 620 is awesome. People don't realise how much work goes into that, hell, you even did the cabs rather than a generic one, that alone is impressive work. Keep up what you enjoy doing and stuff the complainers, ten bucks says that they have never even tried to create something, and if they did, it'll be crap. Hanging out for the F class and whatever else you have. Its great work mate, keep it up.

    • @VT29steamtrain
      @VT29steamtrain  Рік тому

@@brynchanning7266 The F class will come out eventually, I'm making that one to "payware standard" meaning it will likely be sold on the official Trainz store. Thats why it's taking longer than the rest of my projects i've done so far. I've also got an American Baldwin 2-6-2ST I am working on as well, which will eventually be out for free.

    • @VT29steamtrain

Go on website, download both the engine and dependencies cdp files, open trainz content manager, click file then click import cdp, import the files and then ur done. Once the locos are installed, find them in content manager, if it says missing dependencies, right click them, click view dependencies and then right click any of the "available to download" dependencies. U should be gold to go then.
