It is! I run when I can. Work gets in the way most of the time but it’s fun when time permits it. The horn is def a fav for sure. I’m gonna post a heavy run 8 clip at some point with my hybrid LLA running a Christmas train.
@@easternroutemainlinevideos6823 most vilocos make it easy because they have a much softer spring than Graham whites. This ones stiff and kinda shot. It’s not easy to modulate the valve
Welcome! On the tourist railroad that I run on, the crossings aren’t terribly close together. I can splice in some videos combined at some point. Working on a few full throttle clips where the horn and engine are going a wee bit crazy.
i want to ride in a engine so bad lol, several years ago i went to a place called cass wv where there is a old style train that takes you to the top of the mountain, they let me ride in the engine on the way back down,, talk about feeling like a kid in a candy store lol,,
Good stuff man good stuff ! I have a old RS3 off of a ATSF Dash 7 and i work on a small Class 3 in Kentucky... How hard is it to take off the K3 thats on our main engine and put my Leslie on ? Is it plug n play or is it a little more complicated since the horns are 2 different brands ???
Thank you! Love RS3Ls! It really just depends on the horn mount to be honest. I’d speak to your shop guys and bosses for permission first so you don’t get in trouble. As for removing it, I could go into detail but I’d rather not especially on UA-cam because people love stealing horns and I do not want to essentially spell out how to do it on a video with this many views.
There’s several ways to tell the rough ages of horns based on casting marks, tuning, hardware, and machining. This one has something specially machined on the foot of the 1 bell that says shut up, Greg. 😂
There’s many different reasons. The half stage you hear me sound in this video is known as a “quill” or “modulate” horns as part of your style of sounding a crossing sequence like I did here, or it’s used when you don’t want to use the full intensity of the horn let’s say in a residential area late at night with low traffic.
@@bigborek5la up in New Hampshire at loon mountain i snow board thar is a narrow gauge steam locomotive that brings u from one side to another the engineer was so nice I did 50/50 driving the people around and snowboarding
Damn that was a pretty good goose impression!
Great quilling! A great engineer can really make those things sing!
I was trying lol. The valve is a pos on that engine.
My man here really said *euuuAAAAAH* before honking that horn.
The horn also said: euuuAAAAAH
The bell also said DINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
I really like the American horns they always sound loud!
Most of the time they’re loud as hell. Unless they’re fouled out by use or over pressure lol.
Decibel wise the K5LA that you heard can reach 151.4 dB.
@@supertyfon1736 Yeah, it’s loud. Lol
Love the sound of that horn I miss my Railroad days I have some pretty good videos of railroading on my UA-cam channel
Perfectly timed crossing sequence. I’ve seen some trains live and on UA-cam do it lazily
Nice Mark! Absolutely gorgeous horn. Hope to get out there and see you one of these days!
Thats a neat K5LA. The K5LA is one of the best sounding horns on the planet in my opinion.
Thank you. It’s definitely at the top of the food chain with a few others that’s for sure.
So beautiful video, I liked it! Greetings from Brasil 🇧🇷
I love how the guy on the left just let the front door open and stared out of it.😂
It was not as balls out. We needed that door open for AC. 😂
A friend of mine always called that the 2-n-60 air conditioning method. Both doors open and running 60mph!
Spectacular, would love to hear some outside clips of it on the motor.
Nobody was on the ground sadly that day. But every time I run, I bring a horn. So there’s always a chance one person will get it on video eventually.
Sounds great mark.
My anxiety always goes through the roof seeing any video like this approaching a crossing at speed with only crossbucks 🤣 Cool vantage point though!
Looks fun and an awesome horn!

Agreed! Classic Emd and a 90s K5LA. Can’t go wrong with that. What type of valve is that btw?
@@easternroutemainlinevideos6823 amen. It’s an single stage fully metering viloco valve.
Roger. Sounds like it super easy to control the air flow going into the horn

Gee that looks so fun
It usually is unless you have to babysit everyone on your crew. Granted this is a tourist op, but it’s the same out for the big railroads too.
Talk about based, good shit bro. Give that back on one of these CM44ACs and replace those boring raised letters

Is that the EMD GP10 of the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway by any chance?
Yes.
Cool! Got to drive that one once. Best day of my life.
Does it still have the 567 in it? Love the sound of those.
Yes, a 567C. The next video I upload will be the same engine at full throttle for a little over a minute.
If its tagless, how were you able to identify the specs?
