Most of Gwen’s derailments were forced by network executives if you didn’t know.
They (the network executives) for some reason had it out for Gwen’s character. Gwent although not the most developed couple suddenly gets destroyed before it gets the chance to even blossom. Trent gets turned into a massive weirdo and loses main character status. Gwen however …oh boy. She gets with Duncan because they have a similar aesthetic, which is lame. Gwen gets turned from a hard on the outside, soft on the inside character into an inconsistent drama addicted cheater. She also loses most of her interactions she had with other characters (Lindsay, leshawna, Bridgette, Geoff) in favor of love triangle bs. They also fired Gwen’s va because she couldn’t do the toddler voice for the spinoff. And even in the reboot Gwen’s cameo is notably missing, you know… the main protagonist of the first season and member of the big five. All stars felt like they were trying to right the wrongs of their mistakes by having her break up with Duncan and try to rebuild her relationship with Courtney but it comes at the expense of all her goth chick energy that she had in previous seasons, and she becomes attached to the hip
to the terrible trio (Mike, Zoey and Cameron) 🤮. Gwen deserved better ..
I love all this info! Yea the way gwent ended was so abrupt and rushed.
Trent never displayed any traits from season 2 in season 1. They just needed a reason to kill the couple. Notice how Gwen gets voted off twice (action and world tour) because of boys. That's all her character gets reduced to and it's sad.
I actually really like Zoey but the entire character of Mike is just 🤢🤢 throw it in a dumpster and burn it. I couldn't bring myself to watch RoTI 😂😂 only there for the Gwen scenes

If you've seen the original concept art it makes it supportive of my opinion that character wise Gwen is super regular the only thing that was originally interesting about her was jer gothic aesthetic...she does get interesting storylines later on tho

Gwen is All Stars made me hate her character, but I didn't mind her too much for the rest of the run. Even the love triangle cheating in World Tour wasn't too big of a turn off for me since, like you said in the video, these characters are all 16-18 year old teens and they're going to make tons of dumb and emotional mistakes. What made me hate her though was how horrible she was in All Stars with no one ever calling her out.
She constantly preaches to others about how she's a good person and belongs on the Hero team all the while refusing to take any accountability for any of her actions. She ruined her friendship with Courtney and took part in the cheating but constantly downplays her actions like she did nothing wrong like?? Not to mention that she's also a terrible girlfriend here. She completely ignores Duncan the entire season and then wonders why he's crawling back to Courtney later on. Hmmm, I wonder.
Oh, and this one is just a pet peeve, but her getting angry at Courtney not taking her to the final 2 doesn't make any sense either. Courtney's list said she'd be taking Gwen to the final 3 and Gwen herself says in the next episode that she thought the season was going to have a final 3 finale like World Tour. Meaning that, according to Gwen's own words, Courtney would have been taking her to the finale and she didn't actually betray any deals they made.
Anyway, with that rant out of the way. Love the idea for the series. If you need any suggestions over what characters to talk about next, I recommend the Goths from the Ridonculous Race if you want to stick with the TD universe or Jade from Victorious if you want someone equally as messy as Gwen.

Gwen’s character was some of the worst character massacres I have ever seen. Partly, all stars ruined every character in the entire season, and the fact that she was decimated the end of world tour + all stars just made a horrible mix. Love the video!
Yea it was just sad to see in real time. I was also a hardcore Duncan and Courtney fan back then so the idea of Gwen and Duncan was just 🤢
