    This is the simplest most well covered video on saddle hunting on you tube. Thanks so much . I have watched so many that left me feeling like it was too complicated to try. Your video made it comforting to climb a tree like this and literally covered every aspect that others do not. Outstanding teaching and explanation for how to hunt out of a saddle with ease. Congrats on an excellent video my man and thanks again!

    2 words to describe this entire video: experience and intelligence. You keep it simple and use the tree and surroundings to your advantage. Very smart setup. I think I'll be saddle hunting instead of tree stand, the maneuverability of the saddle and the fact that you can conceal yourself easier sells it for me.

    Love the video. I am a saddle hunter as well and you gave me a couple of good ideas that I'll implement. I noticed when you pulled your rifle up that the barrel is pointing up. Maybe switch that so the barrel is pointing down. Be safe, have fun and good luck.

    • @everydaysportsmen
      @everydaysportsmen  Рік тому +3

      That’s definitely good advice for personal safety! I take the bullet out of the chamber before I climb. My thought process behind barrel up is that if I were to get my gun up off the ground and then rope slip in my hands the impact would hit the butt stock, as opposed to the barrel sticking in the ground and filling with dirt, or potentially warping. That’s just my reasoning and thought process. I’m probably overthinking it! Thanks for watching!

    Good video. I don't like messing with sticks, and most of our trees in S Alabama are straight, so I use a Barren Ridge Treestand that's made for saddle hunting. It functions as a climber and platform for saddle hunting. Much easier for me and results in much less stuff to tote and deal with. Probably not for everyone, but works great for me.

    Recommend a tether that reaches all the way to the ground, in case failure of systems. Other saddle hunters have had gear failures, resulting in hanging issues and death has even resulted in one case. Self rescue has to be included.

    Really solid setup, question on your aiders, did you make them or buy them? Assuming they are Amsteel. This will be my third season saddle hunting and like you, it's my preferred method. The only thing I struggle with is one sticking or multi-sticking. I have not made up my mind yet which I prefer, there are definite advantages to both.

  • @fisheyeguy
    @fisheyeguy Рік тому

    So you’re telling me, I can hunt out of a summit climber, that costs hundreds of dollars less than a saddle setup, weighs just as much, and is far less complicated?
    Are people just using these because they are the cool new way to hunt or what? I understand you can hunt a larger variety of trees over a climber, but that seems to be where the advantage stops. I’ve been researching these for 3-4 years, and I just don’t get the hype.

    • @everydaysportsmen
      @everydaysportsmen  Рік тому

      My whole setup without my camera gear is under 15lbs including clothing and a bag with some snacks, and much less bulky than a climber. In my opinion, it is lighter, much more streamlined, just as easy for me to setup, quieter, and allows more shot opportunities in any given direction. These are just things I personally prefer in a saddle to a climber, but at the end of the day hunt with what works best for you! Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!

    I've been bowhunting since 1981. I hunt Tennessee, Alabama, Illinois, N.C., Georgia, and a few others.
    I have killed deer from about every imaginable tree stand set up including ladders, hand ons, home made, and ground blind.. But not a saddle. My climber weighs 16 pounds including bow holder and quiver mount.
    I can shoot 360 degrees around my tree.
    I have never met the hunter who can get up a tree and be completely set up in a saddle faster than I can in my climber. Not even close.
    Hang on sticks/stand yes, climber no.
    I do not understand the advantage of a saddle. Almost anywhere that sticks work so will a Millineum microlite.
    weight might be the issue but at less than 20 pounds I'm not sure I get the difference?

    • @everydaysportsmen
      @everydaysportsmen  Рік тому +1

      My full setup weighs 13lbs sticks and all, excluding my camera gear (that adds about 5lbs) It gives me the benefits of a lock on, (tree selection) but I actually feel safer in the saddle and more comfortable to me! It all comes down to personal preference. My setup time is still less than 10 min and it’s definitely more streamlined, quieter, and less cumbersome than a lock on or climber for me! My opinion is that it’s like vehicles, some prefer Chevy some like Toyota’s. Climbers, lock ons, ladder stand, saddles, they all work great and there are benefits to each! Thanks for watching!

    • @chrisunruh6485
      @chrisunruh6485 Рік тому

      The weight is the biggest benefit. Smaller so you don’t hang on brush. How far are you walking in? I have a few places that are 5 miles one way. I never carry my stand that far. This year I bought a saddle though. Should be in next week.
      How quiet (loud) is your climber going up the tree. Never used one so I don’t personally know but I can’t imagine it being as quite as sticks.

    • @SMSCHA
      @SMSCHA Рік тому

      I use a climber, a saddle and one stick, hang on stands, blinds and ladder stands. One pro of a saddle is you don't need to find a perfect tree like you do with the climber, you can go around branches while saddle hunting. I wont sell my climber or my hang on and ladder stands because I find places to use all of them. One of the places I hunt is on the edge of a bedding area and I can quietly access my hang on stand and not make any noise and I climb the back side of the tree so my movement is hidden. If I am hunting public land here in Michigan I will use my climber or my saddle every time. I do think my climber is a lot noisier than one sticking but my climber is 20 years old so I am sure they have made some beneficial changes in that time. Its all in personal preference as far as I am concerned.
