It's worth watching the track video too to see the car perform flat out so you get an idea of how it shifts especially in comparison to a well driven new RS3.
    • CAN I BREAK MY CUPRA C...
In this video I take Project Cupra to Racingline and run it up on their development dyno to see if it's been remapped. The result was somewhat unexpected. Please note the Racingline dyno isn't normaily for public use as it's used solely for development of their hardware and software, I was very lucky to have this opportunity.

Fascinating - must have been a nice surprise to find out your car has a totally stock ECU!
I'm enjoying "Project Cupra", as I do with all the "Project" videos. Something different to the new car reviews (which I enjoy too). Also looking forward to seeing what mods you do to it - who knows, I might do some of them, once the warranty runs out on my R! Particularly interested to see what you do with the brakes & whether it's a better value upgrade than fitting the "Performance Pack" 2 piece brake discs. The R600 air intake looks well worth it too (although I'd be reluctant to do that on a warrantied car).
Keep the Project Cupra videos coming 👍

The performance pack brakes aren't all that great. Having heard what happens when you upgrade the brakes (oil through turbo) and brake hard I do wonder if VW didn't really want the car to stop faster (though the 2 piece brakes will prevent fade).

Power-to-Weight vs Performance...it's interesting to witness. My mate had an old Leon FR on an 07 plate...standard 170 bhp, great on diesel...and it must've been mapped to about 228/230bhp'ish...and either from standing-starts, or run-ups on motorways...I'm telling you, it was keeping up with most other high-powered diesels, and even some petrol-powered MK7 GTI's and R's,...and he raced a few MK5 R32's...They were all slightly ahead like, don't get me wrong, but he beat at least 2 old MK5 R32's, and Type-R's etc...good car for what it was...The only qualm was, it had no beefed-up diff on it, so spin and torque-steer were rampant. If he could've planted the power down better, the torque would've been even more lethal than it already was....

Interesting but in a drag race the RS3 would leave you in its dust. As for track driving the RS3 is heavy but in the wet the 4 wheel drive would allow the RS3 to pull away from you easily. Comparing your Cupra to a NEW RS3 on price isn't really worth mentioning as a similar age S3 or RS3 to your Cupra would again leave the Cupra especially in the wet. Tyres on the RS3 and the driver might have been contributions. I remember watching a racing driver drive most 2017/18 hatches around an Australian circuit and the Hyundai I30N beat them all including the Honda Civic type R.
Simple mods added to a Golf R, Audi S3 / RS3 would destroy the Cupra even more so I think chasing fast production 4 wheel drive cars will cost you thousands and in the end cost more than buying a fast 4 wheel drive hatch of a similar age.

Found a Golf stage 1 with a Sachs organic performance clutch and upgraded flywheel and clutch slave cylinder, and upgraded brakes all fitted just one year ago by the owner who is a mechanic. It has full service history, 4 new Pilot Sport tyres, 2 owners, and 26k for £19k 2015, or a stock Leon Cupra, FSH, one owner, 2017, 13k for, £20,600. Toss up between the two. What would you go for? Couple of concerns. Worried that the stock clutch won't last on the Cupra, and why the chap selling his Golf only a year aft spending more than £3k years on mods

6hp improvement. Just clear your bowels before setting off, and it will have the same effect and cost nothing. That is interesting about the oil surge, as I was gettign this around certain roundabouts and tightish [2nd or 3rd gear] right hand corners in my 1.8 [accelerate mid corner and I guess stability control stops the car from understeering much, but it's too much for the pcv]. I just dont push it that hard in those corners any longer, as i want the car to last. That was in my first few weeks of ownership, and I've had the car 6 years with no issues around that, so I guess I did no lasting damage.

Probably not especially if you don't drive on track. Chassis I think is the same so it's just engine and trim and 'that' spoiler and the brakes. 245 gets the VAQ diff which is crucial. It's the performance on the straight that was the most interesting as both cars were flat out. Sure RS3 was getting away but not by as much as you might have thought. It's a fascinating comparison as clearly shows the benefits of a light simple car over a more powerful heavier one and how all that extra kit on RS3 is to help it justify its price and position in range, not to make it actually that much faster. Obviously standing starts and even the exit from the hairpin are way faster but after that it's far less clear cut.
