- Hello, friends -- In this episode I am arranging chairs, arranging flowers, and making plentiful appetizers for a friend's piano recital in my home. I hope you enjoy the video -- and Victoria von Arx's magnificent piano-playing! xKevin

Salami Wedges
Ingredients for 16 appetizers
8 ounces (226g) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 tablespoon minced, fresh parsley
12 slices Genoa salami
In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, mustard, horseradish, and parsley.
Lay out 6 slices of the salami, and pat the tops dry with a paper towel. Spread a thin(ish) layer of the cream cheese mixture on each slice. Arrange the filled salami into a neat stack, and top it off with another round of salami.
Repeat for the remaining 6 slices of salami.
Put the stacks on a plate or platter, cover with cling film, and refrigerate until the cream cheese firms up -- at least one hour. Cut each stack into 8 wedges, as if you were cutting a pizza. Insert a colorful skewer into each stack, and serve.
Jam and Brie Puff Pastry Braids
Ingredients for 1 braid (6-8 servings)
1 sheet store-bought puff pastry dough, thawed but still cold
2 tablespoons jam (fig, strawberry, etc)
4-5 slices of Brie cheese, cut 1/2-inch thick
1 beaten egg for glazing the pastry
Unfold the pastry to expose 3 "panels." Spread the jam on the center panel, and top the jam with the slices of brie. Make 1-inch slits along the two outer panels. Fold the slits up and over the brie to create a rustic "braid."
MAKE-AHEAD NOTE: The pastry may be assembled to this point. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C.
Brush the pastry with the beaten egg. Bake until the pastry puffs and browns and the cheese melts -- 20-25 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes.
To serve, slice the pastry crosswise between the braids. Serve warm or at room temperature. - Навчання та стиль

Oh, what fun! You don't know how much I miss this kind of entertainment! Since I can't do this at my home and my budget is like a tourniquet, I get such a vicarious thrill out of your videos! What a lovely array of finger foods - You absolutely outdid yourself! Your home is so beautiful and inviting - The flower arrangement in your entrance hall looked like it came from a high-end, florist, and your music room was absolutely grand! Victoria is so very talented, and I'm sure she appreciated the incredible venue you provided for her!

I actually got tears in my eyes for a split second. Some people live a lifetime and never find what you have. You are helping me to find my hearts desires. I loved watching Victoria practicing on Kevin's piano. My Grandmother Lily Mae was a Music Teacher in Burma, where she was born during the British Raj. She was (Irish/English) and her sister my Great Aunt Alice played the Piano for us when they visited on special occasions like Christmas and Easter. 😅🎉

I love ALDI’s for their cheeses and they have some fabulous wine, for inexpensive that is. That arrangement is magnificent!

Thank you Kevin. I’m having a dinner party on Friday and cooking the chicken Marbella, hummus and smoked salmon were on the appetizer list but I wasn’t sure what else. Happily I’ve decided to make the salami wedges, thank you for this. Glad to know that your recital was a huge success. We used to host a classical music party in our yard. We had been to Tanglewood and at one of the concerts we were seated on the lawn under a huge tree which housed speakers; you couldn’t see the orchestra. I decided that we could try this in the yard as a pot luck party and fifty friends came. We continued this for thirteen years until we moved to Belize and at the last one we had ninety guests! People didn’t seem to mind that there wasn’t a live orchestra, they just sat back (we asked them to bring their own chairs) enjoyed the camaraderie and the selection of music that we chose.

Phenomenal. This is entertainment at its finest. Loved your appetizers and canapés. I always do milk wash instead of egg wash because I can always taste a kind of unforgiving flavor on pastries from the cooked egg wash. I love to milk wash and it gives a lovely yellow color.

They all looked so good and I am interested in trying the salami ones. I have never heard of those. The brie wrapped in pastry, the bacon wrapped breadsticks, etc. all looked like the best party pleasers. I'm glad all went well, you are a wonderful host.

What a wonderful event to have in your lovely home! My sister used to call this having a "musicale." Your friend is quite a talented pianist, as are you. What a great crowd you had in attendance. Orange Kitty made a brief appearance. The appetizers looked delicious. I love the welcoming floral arrangement strategically located in the foyer. We are also lucky to have an Aldi's in my town, and they do have a great selection of hors d'oeuvre type of foods. Also a nice bakery selection. I think they have some nice flowers available too, when I think about it. Maybe I need to go there soon. Anyway, thank you for sharing this musical event with us. I appreciate.
