Sad fact: Some people will take better care of their cars ie. routine maintenance, regular oil changes, address check engine light warnings etc. but neglect their own personal health until they have a near death experience due to personal neglect. I say that not to be judgmental but from my own personal experience. God bless Dr. Amen and the the valuable work that he is doing.

I needed this. I've been struggling with obesity, anxiety, and depression for several years. I spent my first 10 years out of high school smoking enough marijuana to fill several 18 wheelers. Now I am finally taking the moves to remedy EVERYTHING. I just pray that it is not too late and am grateful for every day I wake up alive. I will be getting my real estate license this year. Is there a way you can refrain from saying ahum, yah, yap, yes, every second while the guest is speaking, it's very distracting. You don't hear famous hosts do this so it's not some novel hosting technique thats going to garner more listeners.
A lot of people with a high level of neurotoxicity from environmental toxins that the body cannot process will use cannabis for relief and find it, but until you can remove all of the heavy metals and the like you will always be weighed down by these toxins. They can removed rather nicely by following chelation protocols with the use of toxin binders. Cannabis can be a wonderfully beneficial and helpful substance for people, just don't confuse the medicine with the underlying problems of things. Cannabis can bring you relief but it cannot bind to these toxins and get them out of your body!

I’ve used Amen’s info to help my brain and learned the different types of add and used the supplements he suggested and my brain calmed down. Mine was the over focused type, it’s a relief for a slower brain on supplements rather than using alcohol or medications. Thank you Dr.Amen.
Dr. Amen gets ALL my respect on 1:01 when he admits that he doesn’t know about certain therapy. As a teacher for 24 years, admitting that I just learned from my students, has been my classroom management successful strategy. #learningstopsnever

I'm struggling with a major health issue that lead me researching what is wrong with me. ( this is how I landed here). It's crazy how Dr Amen has helped millions and this podcast has reached millions but this is the 1st time I've herd about both of you along with most of what is mentioned in this episode. BYW, my Brain MD report results are an 8. We should all get Brain scan envy. Knowing brain reports are essential not just for individuals but for the world. Is anyone not looking into the brains of those violent mass shooter's or others who act in violent crimes?? Knowing how and why the brain ticks can help people who suffer from violent behaviors, a mental health issue, a chemical imblance to homelessness/ unhoused. He mentions we can fix, if we know the brain scans.(of course not everything is a quick fix/easy but having a brain scan is a huge factor) My doctor requested for me to get a brain scan and it is going to cost me $300 out of pocket .( I have Medicare) This brain scan can possible help not just my health but my life. The out of pocket cost is what holds me back. Thank you for this conversation. I hope to hear more regarding my thoughts
I am an ex Army EOD tech, I have been involved in several detonations in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, I am now 65 and going through Quarantine in Bahrain on my way to instruct at the KSA AF EOD school, the va has diagnosed me as having TBI, I was in a coma for three weeks. I will order his books now and i want/need to go to the good doctor's clinic when I return to the US, I know he can help me as a person and help save my marriage, my wife keeps saying I want my old husband back. Although it hurts me to hear her say that. I love her and I want to be the man she deserves to have.

You can purchase a plane ticket to India get a hotel and have a SPECT scan and fly back and it will be roughly a third of the costs of a SPECT scan in America.
I got the scan and the women doctor was trying to push drugs on me as she knew I was a naturalist. I’m sure dr amen would be upset with her I hope. I’m a very healthy individual so she was extremely out of line and I cancelled my 2nd apt with her after I saw my healthy brain scans. Sorry but drugs are poison in my opinion for healthy people. Guess she wanted a kickback from the drug companies. I’d love to see her scan compared to mine. Just saying. :) I study daily and stay positive so I’m as healthy as I can be in my opinion.

It's a confirmation to my head trauma years ago where I actually had bleeding in my brain and the top neurosurgeon in Oklahoma City wondered how was I able to function without any treatment. In my scans, he showed me all of the white specks in my brain where the bleeding had been. I am 67 when I lived San Diego 46 ago I delivered my first son, then I was awarded to the state of California and had a man who was responsible to make choices for my health was assigned to me. Yes indeed, and thankful for the info offered up - especially the notion that cardio health is mandatory to good brain health: poorly oxygnated parts of the body do not do well long term, period. It also onfirms my prior instinct to avoid too much corn [especially the high fructose corn syrup which is corn on steroids] and the mindless/ubiuitous use of soy products by food processors. I see soy anything on the label, and I'm looking for something else. It's funny.... our grandparents generation grew up where cooking with lard was common, and with a world record breaking number of centenarians about, that doesn't seem to have been much of a problem, all things considered.

The autism trend touched on is logarithmically alarming - might be a podcast in and of itself. Going from 1/10000 to 1/55 should set our proverbial wigs on fire - thats no simple trend, its an avalanche. So what changed in the 90's and beyond? The ubiuitous trend of bottled water - we are buying more of our own plastics exposure! [Somehow I just knew "Smart" water was actually dumb water; not to mention Evian spelled backwards is naive].
We need studies [if not already done] to prove a)hazardous levels to expecting mothers & the unborn, and b) use that data to determine what the shelf life of plastic bottled water is - force labeling laws into effect. It takes time for leaching to occur, and that may be temperature dependant. Is it reasonably safe for 3 weeks, six weeks, or what?

I have an employee who is a beer alcoholic. He eat once a day and sometimes no food a day. He doesn't eat veggies, bread, and hate sweets. He also has a memory like an elephant. I know he had at least one bad head injury from a near fatal car accident. He never isolated and only wear a mask when it's required. He never gets sick. I'm looking at him like how are you still functioning. I'm a landlord and we're on our feet 90% of the time for 8 to 10 hours. Oh yeah he's 49 years old. Dr. Amens book helped me get my worst bout with panic attacks under control. Most doctors just wanted to keep prescribing more and more drugs, which really just made me dependent on them to prevent the attacks, which left me feeling more helpless. I wanted to control my brain, as much as I could, not become a zombie. I have long been an avid hiker and knew this helped, dramatically. It is amazing what one little eye trick can do. Let me summarize...
If you are having a panic attack, one way to think of it is that your mind has gone into "fight or flight mode" without a valid reason. Your brain wants your body to run away from the danger, even if it is in your own head, so actual running and hiking helps. But you can just concentrate and move your eyes from bottom left to top right, mimicking your vision as it would be if you were running from a threat. The threat isnt real, the running doesnt have to be either. Move your eyes, and breath, focus on breathing, relax your breath....and calm down....
I havent had a panic attack that got out of my control since then....
I am also crying like a baby as I type this... none of which i can really explain. Except maybe that I'm greatful. For those of you who may have had a panic attack, or some sort of PTSD, maybe you can relate. Because even if the fear isnt real its overwhelming. I am a disabled American Veteran and in 2 years I had 4 confirmed concussions that my wife said seemed to knock sense into me. To say the least I feel I am more moody wanting to be more calm. I look to be positive but call out more negative. It seems doctors care more for money than the willingness to help. I have controlled my colesterol by changing my diet among other issues. I always look for natural ways and not medicines. I have learned most health problems are inherited dieting issues. I would like to learn more how to continue healing after these 4 concussions not to mention 20+ from car wrecks while on medicines give by doctors I should possibly not have taken.

Dr. Daniel Amen is brilliant! I sustained a severe TBI in a car accident in 1989. Years later a very old Dr at Mayo Clinic told me he had never saw a person that sustained that brain injury and brain bleed that was alive or not paralyzed. That shocked me.
However, that said I’ve never been the same. I suffer in silence because no one can understand what its like or comprehend even if you could explain it.
This video gives me some hope. My decision-making ability has negatively been impacted. :0(

Most interesting thing I have heard in my 85 years! My 64 year old son has had several head injuries! Has LOUD TINNITUS ~ not mentioned, just wondering! God Bless You ~ will pray for you also! Would not have expected all I heard!! I’ve saved and shared! And will share more!

Watching this video makes me think of those who suffer from chemo brain. I wonder if this issue could also be significantly improved in individuals who suffer from it and to what extent it could really improve their quality of life after they finish treatment and try to integrate back into their normal lives and careers. Both of my parents have this chemo brain unfortunately - it makes me think of them.

I feel for you and your parents. I have a history of being diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) grade 3 (very bad, not a good prognosis). I’m not complaining one bit. Reporting this to in support that I validate what you’re saying. Had six months of IV chemotherapy, surgery, double mastectomy, lymph node dissection and removal, immediate reconstruction, then radiation therapy. Seven months post radiotherapy, I knew something WASN’T right. I felt sick and poisoned. NO energy. It was a major challenge to just get up out of bed to use the bathroom. I found more tumors in August 2014......and they were growing. After getting physically examined by my primary oncologist and my beloved, incredible, beautiful breast surgeon, was told that “the tumors” I had found, were not tumors but scarring/swelling from the major surgery I’d undergone within less than a year. “This will dissipate in time.”
Side Bar: I lamented to hundreds of Nursing Students to whom I had the pleasure of mentoring: ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENT. I thank God He gave me the fortitude to continue my pursuit of continually seeking what was wrong with my body. I ended up throwing a fit during my December 2015 oncology appointment. Not my MO. God saved my life again that day, 2DEC15. Post hissy-fit, I was sent directly to ultrasound, that unequivocally showed several (cancerous) tumors. Had the fine needle aspiration performed that confirmed a recurrence of TNBC. Here we go. Had to get another mediport surgically implanted into my chest, was LITERALLY (😂😂😂😂) wheeled from that surgical suite, to the Chemo Ward, for IMMEDIATE infusion of Chemotherapy. Yes, another six month stint of the most-caustically available chemotherapeutic agents. Surgery. Radiation completed in October 2016. Damn that was the long way around in trying to validate how sad and frustrating my trying to acknowledge and align with your comment dear Ms. Amanda Riposo. Chemo brain is real. I have found that eating non-dairy, non-gluten, no pressed foods, rare intake of any form of meat, high intake of green leafies and cruciferous vegetables is most beneficial.
This October 2021 is the glorious month that I’ve been allowed to live 5 years out from the last bout of TNBC.
May this comment encourage and give hope to anyone facing serious health-challenges and/or any life threatening situations.
