How to get to Windsor- a step by step travel guide

This is a step by step travel guide in getting to Windsor on your own. No tour buses or guides. It is a walking tour of the town, the famous oldest castle in the world to hidden gems often ignored by tourist.
I prefer Windsor Castle's changing of the guard, it is smaller more personal and you can take picture a lot closer. It happens every 1100 so time your visit. From London Paddington it is approximately 30 minutes to Slough and 20 minutes from Slough to Windsor.
Get yourself a ticket as oyster card doesn't work here. Travel off peak [after 0930] it is cheaper. Or weekends, but be aware that sometimes rail improvements happen during this time so services maybe disrupted. Give yourself enough transfer time in Slough as services to Windsor is one in every half an hour it's a long wait if you miss your connection.
You can incorporate shopping here, their high street is pretty good.

You can do Windsor in half a day and then continue on to oxford or bath🙂

About an hour an a half by car. Even faster by train. GWR trains are quite good
