    I remember watching these on HBO in the 90s. Those were the days!

    Can't believe how they put so much into these stories and the number of twists in them. Who can compare to her?
    Wow we used to watch her with the Not the 9oclock team in the telly in the 80s. Great singer too. A single episode is far too short, but must have been hard work.

    A friend of mine suggested watching Tracy's show. After watching asked her why they call it Tracy's show when she is not in it. When she told me ALL the characters were Tracy my mind was blown and I am still a fan many years later!

      Watching Tracey Ullman in Trevor Ayliss getup gives me the idea of making a gender swap reboot of Mrs Doubtfire with Tracey Ullman. She would have been brilliant in that role.

      Actually, this is a FANTASTICALLY honest example of how people react when someone they regard as "elevated" or depend upon get caught lying.
      From 2018 through 2019, no less a governing body than the U.S. Congress itself REMINDED US that peddling one's influence for a quid pro quo while in office was a conflict of interest SO CRIMINAL, it's even illegal for a president to commit it.
      So right there, you have people in government and MSM themselves telling us that lobbying is not only happening, but that it is 100% illegal.
      & you've already gone back to refusing to believe this can be true.

      @@laurengospodnetic5146 Right ... you know I once had somebody say Tracey should be ashamed of herself for doing blackface and I replied It is more of an omage to black women. It certainly isn't her rubbing black shoe polish on her face with giant white lips singing "Mammy" The amount of work that goes into a Tracy Ullman character is astronomical and It is certainly NOT done with any malicious intent... and intent matters and if they can't see the difference.... I just think they have become Hyper Vigilant and intolerant ... What do you think are you offended.... by Tracey doing her character Shaneesha?

    • @TnT24u
      @TnT24u 3 роки тому

      @Private Citizen why? What if you didn't know it was her you just thought she was another black woman... because she is that good...like I said it is a tribute to black women.... Are you saying you see no difference between her and those men in the 40's putting shoe polish on their faces with exaggerated giant lips and tap shoes doing "Mammy"? is that what you are saying?

    • @TnT24u
      @TnT24u 3 роки тому

      @Private Citizen she is a skinny white British lady ... so for her to be passible in any store in Compton or at any BLACK FAMILY REUNION...I think she gets a pass...and I applaud her for it ..it is her craft and she has a roster of characters that each one has their own voice and dialect and body type and mannerisms and expressions and teeth prosthetic appliance, and personality, their own walk ...each character is their own person and even if she hasn't done a certain one in a long time as soon as she has them on ...THEY ARE ON and the specific characteristics and mannerisms are instantaneously there ... you NEVER hear Ruby Romaine's voice if she is Fran Goldstein or Linda Granger if she is the Chinese Lady that owns the Donuts Shop

    • @TnT24u
      @TnT24u 3 роки тому

      @Private Citizen well I think we are making too much and possibly projecting biases where there isn't any in this case I believe Tracy is portraying a strong black woman and the research and transformation is remarkable her British accent is undetectable I would bet she could go to a Black family reunion and no one would know that is hardly the same as someone that does "BLACKFACE" they could NEVER fit in and would probably not escape with their life or at least all their teeth ...and rightly so, I do NOT look at them the SAME WAY ... This is An ARTFUL OMAGE and INTENT MATTERS ....on the flip side I was not offended in the slightest when the Wayans brothers made the movie "White Girls" I realize there is NOT even the same context or history but I appreciated their ability to be in character first of all these were men and I don't think they're intentions were nearly as pure as Tracey's I think they intended to portray "whitegirls"in a negative way but I still think they did a GREAT JOB because Tracey is actually kind of taking comedic abs at white couples "that shitty ring" and the Barbra Streisand part about" The mirror has two faces and four chins and a saggy ass" I died laughing.
      I hope you see this from our discussion that there is NOT ill intent on Tracey's Part, and Intent Matters and the character development that must go into ALL of her characters and I personally think that Tracey actually has a form of multiple personality disorder and she has found a way to make that work for her ... every character has their own voice,dialect , cadence, body type, walk, mannerisms teeth prosthesis, for their own smile Sidney the Aggressive Lawyer with the blond perm if you look closely at her teeth they are pointed looking almost shark like ....

    As a Canadian viewer and fan who grew up on British television, I wish she'd stayed in the UK and done all her comedy there where the humour doesn't have to be dumbed down, especially in the era she started in in America, the late 80s, when American television was REALLY just starting to get almost unwatchable (not that it was fantastic before). But for a show meant for people who have cars on their lawns and shoot at beer cans because some dude in drag drank it online, it's pretty excellent and at least gave us The Simpsons, one of the shows that actually defined the 90s in a positive way. I just think being on an American TV show is limiting in a lot of ways, whether it's in terms of censorship or creativity. All that considered, this was kind of an excellent show. And using her big hit song from the 80s that sounds like it was written by or for The Temptations was absolutely the right call. This actually comes off more like A Bit of Fry and Laurie (yes, THAT Laurie) from the UK than it does anything American, so I give it credit for that. I'm actually shocked that Americans liked this. Usually American sitcoms require horny yet awkward models with no personality doing goofy things for no reason in order to be successful. Friends is a good example of that. Even Big Bang Theory, also known as Stereotype Central, had to have the standard hot blonde for awkward nerds to pine for and in typical nerd fantasy fashion, the least nerdy guy of the bunch gets the girl. If Penny fell in love with Sheldon or one of the other guys, that would have made sense. All the guy she liked had to do was take off his glasses, give him a hair cut and he looks like a normal guy. Impressionism in an American comedy show usually doesn't get over on its own. You need a sexy female love interest. Tracey Ullman managed to create a successful show in America without that. I'm not saying that makes Americans any smarter than I thought, but I'm paying attention.

    I've never understood the commotion about comics using blackface or a sports team having an Indian as a mascot or any other culture or heritage. I have some Irish ancestry and couldn't care less if some sports team wanted to use a drunk leprechaun as a humorous mascot or using any stereo typical image of any culture. Oh yes, I know, all the hurt feelings, it's just like reliving tragedy. Move on. Get over it.
