Clear message on 1:59.40, he considers that his best ever time and perhaps the marathon record in his view. Therefore saying a course record means improving the official WR. Good luck Eliud, hope your body will feel great on Sunday! No pressure, just run like the wind!
Go Eliud. Push your body to the limit. Just leave a mark. 2:01, 2:00, 1:59, or even 1.58 or 1:57 if possible. You inspire us through your targets, focus, hard work, and accomplishment of those targets. Especially in such a brutal race.
@@ZanicL3 Hahaha...But the 1991 research by Joyner, titled "Modeling: optimal marathon performance on the basis of physiological factors," suggests that with everything being perfect, a human being can run 1.57.58 for the full marathon This is the reason why I mentioned 1 hour and 57 minutes. Here is the link: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2022559/
@@ZanicL3 When it is Eliud Kipchoge as the subject, he is the smoke tearing down the course in record(s) time. His training, his diet, his physiology and height-weight ratio supports the possibility of running the marathon in 1:58. Berlin is a great opportunity for this to make history. And, the Berlin Marathon is the day after my birthday, and I would love it for our humanity, should Eliud succeed. I accept it as a present to all of us, as well.
If the weather is right, I'm predicting a 2:00:54. Every athlete eventually has their last great race, but I hope he carries on to 2024 and gets another gold medal.
Can Kipchoge run a normal marathon like Berlin in under an hour for the first half and then another under 1 hour for the second half? I know he can easily run under 1 hour for a half marathon. But what about a back-to-back half-marathon race? While he never invested much (through training or otherwise) in the half marathon, him running 59:25 for the first time (the Lille Half Marathon back in 2012) is a clear indication that he would have run much faster if he had paid enough attention to this race. The greatest strength for Eliud is that he can maintain an even pace for the full marathon race, say 2.50km for every minute or thereabouts. I remember Wilson Kipsang (one of the greatest marathoners of 2010s) saying this in 2017. Other marathoners can hardly do this; they can run at a crazy 2.48km per minute then fall back to 3km per minute, which affects their overall performance. If Kipchoge can run two sub-1 hour half marathons back to back, he can easily go under 2 hours in Berlin. It’s an overwhelming task, but within his capability, even if it means going alone for the next half of that race, if, for example, the pacemakers can't handle such a brutal pace for long.
Altitude training forces your body to produce more blood cells, due to the fact there is lack of Oxygen meaning more blood cells need to be made to capture more oxygen into your blood and muscles.
yall want memory lane? for me, if kipchoge didnt drop his water bottle at 39.9km mark, he could have broken the barrier. ua-cam.com/video/-hDeYdAdn3o/v-deo.html 54:42 mark on that link above.. your welcome...
EK is a truly great runner by any measure, and comes across as a truly admirable person. BUT no, he is not going to break his WR. That was set in 2018 using the extra extra special shoes with 2 springs - oh, sorry, carbon fiber plates' in them and who-knows-what sole height. They allowed him to take a staggering 1.5 mins out of the previous record, and as if just to prove it was the shoes, KB did effectively the same time, on the same course, then next year. Now, those shoes cannot be used. There is a 40mm sole height limit, and only one spring allowed. Since 2019, noone, including EK has come within a minute of the time he, and KB, both ran in 2018 / 2019. Plus, he is now 37yo, vs 33yo when he set that record. My feeling is that at 37yo a PB is still possible, but the potential curve is starting to slope down quickly. EK is now 40, and although he ran the WR + 2 seconds, when he was 37yo, in 2019, he is now just not just not cutting it anymore. So this is probably EK's last chance to even set a PB, let alone a WR. Remember this is a promotional video done by his team, and running at this level is a business, as much as personal achievement. OTOH, if for some remarkable reason he did set a new WR weekend after next, then even I will be calling him 'the greatest of all time'.
he ran the 2018 official world record in nike vaporfly 4%s with a stack height in the low 30s and one plate, i believe. this year he will be able to run in vaporfly next% 2s, which is a faster shoe. his unofficial world record on a closed course in 2019 (1:59:40) was in shoes that arent legal today.
"That was set in 2018 using the extra extra special shoes with 2 springs" - in that race he is using a next% prototype; watch a video and you can see the bottom matches a next% but with a 4% upper. Basically just a normal next%. " KB did effectively the same time, on the same course, then next year." - I mean, this is true but KB is clearly using standard OG next% shoes. "Since 2019, noone, including EK has come within a minute of the time he, and KB, both ran" - EK ran 2:02:37 in London 2019 (a slower course) and 2:02:40 in Tokyo this year whilst being lead the wrong way and having to u-turn back onto the course. I agree time is definitely running out but I feel like there is a legit chance at WR here.
@@Dannyner6 I don't think that's true about the shoes he used in 2018. If you have some reference that supports the idea I would be most interested in seeing it. If that is so it is mighty interesting that he set that records, and then Bekele essentially the same time the next year, but since then no one's come closer than 1 minutes away from that time. That would imply that EK is in fact well off his form compared to 2018 and still highly unlikely to break the record. There were a range of other non competition legal aspects of the Ineos Challenge stunt.
@@alexanderSydneyOz hmm, news articles from the time stated that he used vaporfly 4%s at berlin 2018, as does the wikipedia (not great sources i know) but it does appear visually that he used the 4%s or shoes that look like them and there were certainly no airpods like the alphaflys from ineos 1:59. perhaps the midsole from the vaporfly next% was used and that would still be legal today. let’s hope for good conditions and our questions can be answered :-)
@@Dannyner6 yes, "vaporfly PROTOTYPE" is how I have read the sources, which are all speculative. For the record, I think WP is the best source available, as it catalogues all sources available.. Noted about the airpods, and I will defer to your observations on that, but the airpods are not, in my understanding, the issue. The issue is that from and to some dates, Nike supplied shoes with two carbon fiber springs and now they have only one. That aspect of the shoes is a bit harder to tell from videos of races. And let's not forget that this is EK, so Nike will at all times be supplying the best they have. My assumption is that in 2018/19, when the shoes were not yet restricted in any way, that they had advantages not now available. Because of the nature of marathon, the differences between courses, and who ran which event when, there isn't enough data to be sure about all this, but this is for sure: unless the shoes are better now, or EK is running faster now than 4 years ago, he isn't going to break that record. But per your final sentence, the questions on that score will definitely be answered on the 25th. If he doesn't break the record then, I reckon that will be a VERY long standing record. We can reconvene after that to see how my armchair expert speculation based on not much, fared :)
He is going to break the record, that is for sure.
he seems so calm here; like it already happened. we are fortunate to witness this.
Wait a minute, a course record in Berlin really means a world record. Hold my water.
Or does he count his 1:59:41 as the WR in his mind? we know its not official, but it's still his PB
