I purchased BC coils for my E36 almost 8 years ago and still going strong. I mostly use that car as my stanced ride. I bought a G30 a few years ago, but this time I'm going with KW. Mostly because of the engineering philosophy. I wanted the E36 to just be a slammed, weekend warrior, while the G30 is more of a performance Daily Driver. For anyone saying BC Coils are crap, they are just riding name brand.

enjoyed your video on KW V2 vs. BC coilers. Question: my family vehicle is a 2020 X5 with M sport package on the 22" wheels and performance brake calipers. I've ordered (back ordered) H&R sport springs to lower ride height 1.4 inches and 11mm spacers...it is totally a street vehicle so looking to improve the stance and optimize the ride quality without harshness-should I consider the K&W V2 coilover instead? other than price difference is there benefit in your opinion to going to the KW V2? Thanks

Hi David, thanks for watching. First off congrats on the X5 (great SUV, top marks but CR) So I talk a bit more about suspension here: ua-cam.com/video/5McdmCyxzCg/v-deo.html Point being is you get what you pay for right.
I'll give you my quick 2 cents on it: if it's within your budget and can afford it then, YES go with the KW's. The H&R's are honestly going to be harsher (they are sport, so they will feel slightly sportier then the Msport, and you will definitely feel it) that doesn't mean it's going be more compliant/comfortable, if anything it will also wear down the shock life quicker over time on the X5.
Keep in mind if you are paying for install on the H&R's it's about the same cost as installing the coilovers as well.
Hope this helps, and if we can help with the purchase if you change suspension, happy to do so here at ModBargains 714.582.3330 Sales@modbaragins.com

Mate, if it helps give you peace of mind I’ve had 3x sets of BC BR coilovers on three different cars over the years and loved them every single time!
No matter which brand you choose, I cannot recommend getting them setup by a real professional enough!
The difference of the same coilovers setup wrong Vs right is night & day difference!
I’d love to try some KW V3’s on my current car, but I’m struggling to justify the extra cost to myself in all honesty…
Although I’ve never owned any KW’s, and can’t be sure I’d be impressed or dissapointed...
It would need to be V3’s if I did and I’m wary that it’s a lot of extra money to sink into suspension to suddenly realise you prefer the BC’s you’ve had and run before.
For a light weight 1000-1200kg, 400bhp street car, I ran my BC’s on fully soft to make them a little more relaxed, enough for our awful quality UK roads and it was perfect! Despite being really quite low ride height wise!👌
Some people make the mistake of going really really low (which the shock can support), which seems to be the trendy style in the car scene still, then because they can’t afford much body movement afterwards (due to clearance issues) they put the coilovers on their max stiffness… I’ll tell you straight, BC’s on max stiffness, on a relatively light car allows you to get almost zero body movement… Great for that ‘look’, but expect the car to take bumps and potholes like you have no suspension at all! At this point you might as well have scaffolding poles are your shocks instead!
You feel everything and rightfully so!
I’ve never had BC’s on a heavy car though (who might have the extra weight to run max stiffness) only really light, fast cars tbh.
Obviously on heavier cars you probably wouldn’t want to run fully soft I’d imagine!
People sometimes Bash ‘BC’ purely because KW is more expensive and people feel reassured that greater cost = greater quality and in the car scene, a lot of people built cars to show an exuberance in style and wealth.. It’s cool that the car scene loves KW, but BC is truly a great brand, with epic coilovers and a price point that should not be ignored!
Their (BC) suspension is decent! And I’ve owned them multiple times on different road/track vehicles.👌
      Personally, from experience…
I don’t think many people would be disappointed with BC coilovers. 👍
This is just an honest opinion of someone who has actually owned and done thousands of miles with BC products, yet has no affiliation or loyalty to either brand.
      Regardless of your choice!
      Enjoy driving ✌️

I was looking into KW V2 for my Audi TT but now I’m looking more towards bc racing just because of my budget and I would like to go and have track days here and there but ultimately I would love to still keep(or maybe upgrade) my ride quality better than my stock while still being able to handle some track days.

I am on my second set of front coilovers (at my own cost) from BC now and had used them on a previous car (2005 Impreza STi) and I can not in good faith recommend them as a product. Initially they performed great but they really lack in reliability, build quality and also their support is hopeless. On my 2012 EVO X they clunk, bind and the ride quality has degraded significantly after just a few thousand kilometers of mostly street use.
At this point I may as well have saved up the extra cash and opted for a set of Ohlins or KWV3's and had a better experience.
Personally I would say rather save up and buy a higher quality product as you are going to pay for going the cheaper route in the long run.

    • @talkingmods
      @talkingmods  Рік тому +1

Sorry late to this discussion. BC's are great option, with the HAS springs it's to retain the use of the factory shocks, while being adjustable, also if the vehicle has EDC it's not needing to code it out why some people opt and prefer that as well. They are good, the ST's are good option as mentioned as well if you are in non snow weather condition ( where the roads are not salted) reason for the price difference is they are galvanized steel instead of stainless steel. Galvanized steel will rust.

I used BC Coilovers on my 335xi until spring this year. After a year of using them I had to take them out. Unfortunately, I can't recommend them. I don't know if that's a platform issue or what but the ride quality on these was horrible. Quality of these is not great either. Shocks wore out too quick, after 6 months of using them I was experiencing symptoms of blown shocks. Initially the car was stiffer, handled nicely but that was gone way too soon. I've changed to OE shocks and lowering springs and the ride was better than on BC's but now my rear end is bouncing and the front is crashing on bumps so I've finally ordered KW V1. I've only heard good things about them and they are German brand so the quality will definitely be there. Hope I'm not wrong.

KW vs H&R/Bilstein just matter what we are comparing V1's, vs H&R, pss10 or b16 vs V3, are we looking at clubsport or v4 or v5 - end of day you get what you pay for for the most part. BC vs KW is like shooting a bullet and throwing one. $1000 coilovers have been proven to be lacking in build quality, material quality and overall comfort. This was not an honest comparison because you are trying to be too unbiased. But I am sorry it is not honest. The KW's will ride better, they use better materials, and they will have superior longevity over BC budget coilovers. The only thing that BC has over KW is it can drop the car more than KW. Well that is great lets sacrifice your suspension bushing and driveablity. People don't think... they just want a "look" but lowering a car too much will make it drive like crap. Not to mention all the things you have to do in order to achieve that level of drop from stretched tires, rolling fenders, camber adjustment arms, and removing liners... you just open a whole can of worms that people don't consider. Especially when its a daily driver. Yeah the BC engineers are way smarter than the Volvo, Mercedes, BMW or Honda engineers that they magically built a suspension that cost a fraction of what the stock suspension cost. Flat surfaces and on a track the BC would probably be fine for a lot of cars but not for longevity and daily driving. This was a terrible review because lets think about this for a second. At a 1000 bucks your telling me literally 500 bucks goes into building my coilovers that I am going to slap on my German car? You have material cost, labor, shipping all that considered how cheap are the materials to build these things? This is what you call "Rice" when you cheap out and install stuff like this on more luxury performance cars. Do your next video on Megan Racing Coilovers (if they are still around) vs Ohlin's LOL

    • @talkingmods
      @talkingmods  Рік тому +4

First off love your comment, I also always say you get what you pay for. But I did say you get a lot of value from BC. So let me address some of your points:
Material quality, is literally the same, stainless steel , most of the materials are on par. In terms of strength etc, what material are you referring to that is that much different.
Build quality, I've personally owned both, our shop has installed thousands of both brands, have had customers report thousands of times on both, no lack of quality so where is the quality difference coming from?
'superior longevity' is there any quantitively numbers that you have, from our data and what I have seen, less then 1% of issues, both companies will rebuild their products as well for their customers.
Lower is worse, funny KW's claim to fame when they came on the scene was that they could go lower then Bilstein and others, does that mean they were inferior? But the more research you do you'll find that per vehicle it's very different, yes BC's offers some more aggressive lowering(they call them superdown but those are for certain customers). Do I or even BC or KW ever recommend to go to the lowest settings, nope none of them do, because of all the issues you described. But everyone has a choice on how they want to setup their vehicle and to take on all those additional issues as they wish.
I am personally actually closer to KW, have been to their plant in Germany (here you go, Episode 4 and 5, ua-cam.com/video/2yBoEZICfr4/v-deo.html)
Now my personal thoughts are the following - the shock dyno testing and build of KW 's is world class, they build a great product. Pricing is good, and their pricing is indicative of how it goes when they have to work out of Germany and there are salaries. Do I think we should bash BC, nope not at all they have less costs coming out of Taiwan, but they also have a great product, and they are able to come really close to KW at a fraction of the pricing. You pay more you get something better hopefully which in this case is there, but there is a law of diminishing returns of course. It's not huge difference between the two brands in terms of pricing but everyone is in a different financial situation. When I was asked that question, I let the person know both options, and honestly it's proven to be a classic case. So I have to give the pros and cons of it all, at the end of the day you get what you pay for, some more value then others, I hope I can shed light on that always for everyone. If you want to see other value budget coilovers I talk about it this video here: ua-cam.com/video/zimuiMNLxmE/v-deo.html
As to Megan and Ohlins lol, thats not even a question, I/we (ModBagains) don't offer Megan racing because the quality is really subpar to what we will stand behind. I do hope that they improve into the future and I can evaluate them then. I am a huge fan of Ohlins btw :)
