It’s so like Andrew to say “Here’s how to make an 808” and then do the most unconventional, roundabout method possible.

There's three ways a normal people would read 808's :
- Eight Hundred and Eight
- Eight Zero Eight
- Eight o Eight
or if you're me at 10 years old: BOB O'CLOCK
only sane people call it eight o eight, who says eight-hundred eight???
Tranquility in French the say “huit cent huit” which means “eight hundred eight” in English

Eighty & Eight
It was released in 1980, discontinued in 1984 due to poor sales. It was then picked up for cheap in pawn shops and became a cult classic. Really interesting history surrounding the 808, what an instrument
It is amazing to think such a great piece of hardware came out so long ago and is still "Kicking":) Happy 40th bday TR808 EDIT: Also it is a pity the video is one second too long:(
only on android app. on computer it is 8:08
Shane Jewell well it was 8:09 on my pc but if you saw Andrews tweet, he edit the video to fix it
8:09 for me
Peter Roland, Samuel Korg, John Yamaha
I didn't see that lol
video length will show 8:09 in the thumbnail for some people because youtube is screwy like that
but it shows 8:08 on the actual timeline for me, you did it Andrew
Thats the most none 808 sound ever. Fav drum machine!

YESSSS! ROFL!!!
Thanks for explaining the modern use of the term "808". Old folk like me get confused when people talk about an "808" as anything other than the drum machine sounds.
@@AlexAlcyone it's not misused, language just changes and evolves over time
I've learn more in this video about the stock plugins than most of the "stock pluggins tutorial" type of video!
Should’ve made an 808 using sounds from walking with the shoes
The amount of detail in this is just BVROOOOOMMM. Thanks Andrew!!

UR AWESOME AMAZING!!
Ur freaking so good jesus
I remember making 808 kicks and toms with 3 elements - 1 osc (sine or triangle wave) & 2 envelopes (one for pitch) on a really simple modular synth sample maker in the mid 90's - It's name escapes me at the minute.
There was violent tweeter nightmare in the first few attempts (think Kraftwerk blips) generating the samples on a 66Mhz CPU PC. This stopped when I dialled the pitch env way down. After that it was beef and scruff the sound up a bit and bingo!

Damn you boomers had it tough back in the day. Can’t imagine having to make drums from scratch lmfao.

Sublab is an amazing plugin! It works for house basses and subs.
Wish he would have talked about mixing 808’s. Making them isn’t all that difficult. Making them sound clean in a mix is another story.
You have to build all your elements around it if you want it clean, for example dont go for sounds that are going to resonating where the 808s overtones are
Honestly it's really just about high passing everything so that basically the only thing taking up the lowend of the mix is your 808

Frequency separation and sidechaining with bass, no?
Not necessarily tho
I love how the video is also 8:08 in length. Bless

MY GUYS FIT DOE STRAIGHT HEAT
Perfect timing with this one! Was just getting into 808’s. Also, I’ve been wanting to mention that I’d be interested in a video on reggae/dub. Would be killer if you made a video and went over the theory, techniques, rhythms and or sounds used. For instance: “the bubble” on keys or the “dub” baseline. I don’t believe any of the elements are very technically challenging but you could spice it up by explaining how all the elements fit so well together to create the overall mix/ umami.

@@catherine31544 This is pretty damn awesome! I know what I'm doing today 😉
That’s a cool sounding kick drum !
You probably already know this, but an actual 808 kick drum is created by a resonant low pass filter being driven into self oscillation.
Triggered by an electronic pulse and modulated by envelopes, a deep sine wave is produced with a variable attack and and sustain length.
The sound is created by the filter being used as an oscillator, not a vco or sample.
I really wanna enter the giveaway but I really don’t need these shoes

YOU ARE AMAZING ANDREWWWWW
Today is my birthday and I can now as a producer say I was born on 808 day! Thank you so much for wishing me happy b'day on insta and this is an awesome video!
Got a few good tips out of this video! Thanks!
1. That sub vst looks awesome! And it's still only $40. Looks like a good solution for someone like me always struggling to get the bass to sit correctly in the mix on all notes. Generally looks fun to use too!
2. Using the dang tuner to tune the sample after messing with it. OMG. Why was I never doing this before?! I always just use the tuner for acoustic instruments. Whenever I'm doing electronic, I just face the fact" that I will have to do some of the composing by ear and that the notes might be a lie. hahaha, what a concept! Duh! I needed that.
3. Flatten in Live. I guess that is new? Back in the day I would use the resample "channel" to record on a separate track. Kind of slow. Seems like they made that a lot easier to do. I'll have to read up on that.
OMG that shoes!
i use fl studio, so i was gonna look up an fl specific tutorial, but its andrew huang, so i gotta watch this
I love listenning to you. Your channel is great, funny and informative 🏆
"OH! There it is!" He says while my whole fucking house is shaking
