I'm the opposite of you guys, the original space theme did nothing for me, this one is way more interesting

I completely agree. Who gives a rip when a new planet is discovered?

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I wasn’t looking forward to it when someone brought it out at game night but then after it was done I wanted to play again

Seems like I don't need it as I have Search for Planet X. Thanks for the review!

Search for Planet X is one of my favourite games so I wasted no time Kickstarting this but I personally not only prefer the theme of the original but also the gameplay. I find it cleaner, I quite like the constriction of only part of the night sky being visible, and I just found that Lost Species felt much more formulaic and like we all ended up following each other's action choices and discovering things at similar times. Hard to explain exactly why, but it means I prefer Planet X personally, and am debating selling Lost Species. It also felt like the amount of time that each action took, and the regularity with which each was taken, meant I was never able to manipulate my choice of actions to make myself be first in turn order, I was ALWAYS behind my opponents, and that therefore gave me a disadvantage when it came to sightings as I placed first and that meant others could see where I was committing to before submitting their own theories. So yep the whole thing ended up feeling much more formulaic and scripted to me than Planet X personally so it's defo worse in my opinion.

Very intrigued clicking on this one as I recently picked up planet x. I like not being limited in what you can investigate and the added variability in what you're looking for. Might be on the lookout for this one. Thanks guys :)

Played this at the DT retreat and liked it a lot. However the board is difficult to track everything as the space for writing notes and the mini map is so small. I found myself writing all along the margins and after multiple erasures losing track of the species. 😂 No one mentioned struggling w/the tiny map so probably just me and my bad handwriting.

I think this one is better but the theme gets more in the way. If you haven't played either then wording on number of species or types in the same region was confusing. I had to more clearly explain this concept when teaching than any in X. But the game is superior.

I like Search for Planet X better, because it has language-independant physical components on the board. This allows the players to play in their preferred language easily. In this one there are cards :(

I don't get it. You talked about how this system is cleaner but in your overview and your explanation, you made it seem much more convoluted than search for planet X between the mountains and the coastline to inland ratio.
I watched this video twice and I don't get it. The Circular Board only being allowed to see half solar system is better than the mountains; the paper publishing system sounds so much smoother than what you were trying to describe, the village action is less useful than the research action. Before your final ratings, I would have guessed you both would have come in with 6.5 and 7

Yep, in my opinion Planet X is better for many of the reasons you've stated and it's definitely cleaner.

I'd rather play a game about animals than space.

I like this game, but I agree with Tom about the cards. Especially the pathfinder one that reduces the cost of survey by foot. It feels much too powerful if you can get that at the start. Feels much too random for this kind of game. I prefer planet x because of this.

Don't let the overview turn you away from the game. It was much more convoluted than it had to be.

Would be great if you could use lapel mics for videos, as the echo/reverb in your room sounds awful with headphones.
