I used 3kliksphilip's video about the Wooting keyboard as a demonstration: • Pressure Sensitive key...
The Wooting 60 HE and the Wooting Two have absolutely taken the osu community by storm. Previously, most players have seen a common preference to the HyperX Alloy Origins, which was dubbed "the cheaterboard" by the osu community, but just because the keyboard was the common preference doesn't mean that it gives an inherent advantage. Enter Wooting keyboards. Wooting keyboards have analog switches, and within those analog switches comes a unique feature known as rapid trigger. At first, it was just seen as a dumb gimmick, but then clips emerged of players hitting super fast streams upwards of 300bpm, and then all hell broke loose. Immediately, the keyboard went from an afterthought to by far the most controvesial peripheral in osu history, which led to a lot of people hating it. Some top speed players like Sytho and roaz decided to give the keyboard a chance, and have made good progress with it. Is this keyboard the gateway into becoming the speed player of your dreams, or is it all just a figment of our imagination? And more importantly, how did the community react to this?

really hope more keyboard companies start implementing rapid trigger, this seems like the start of something great
You can make this video 4 minutes shorter 💀 you just repeating yourself over and over again
It's not cheating, it's a different kind of switch. Back in the earlier days some players considered aiming with tablet a form of cheating. This is essentially the same issue, you're still responsible for the inputs being made, it's still your finger movements that determine how fast and how precisely your cursor moves and hits the circles.
Well, there's only one real difference: tablets were never super prohibitively hard to get a hold of nor prohibitively expensive, therefore there was never much of a situation where the majority of the playerbase was locked out of using tablets due to poor availability. This currently creates the situation of people who can get their hands on a wooting keyboard having a perceived unfair advantage over all those who can't (which is the majority)
I'm assuming other keyboard manifacturers will follow suit and release their own analog keyboards soon enough, at which point the technology will be normalized and the crying will fully die down. After all, the one thing which can't be stopped is the technological advancement of humanity.
But yeah until that point, people such as myself will be very unhappy with the situation, since I currently am playing with a 125Hz blue switch keyboard which gotta be like the worst possible thing to play on and I want to change it like NOW, but I don't want to get something which isn't "optimal".
@@Alice_Fumo 😎
What about touch device
not all different playstyles are legitimate. for example touch screen was just "another way to aim" until we all decided it was pretty much playing a different game, and td players should be locked out of pp competition. i doubt that would happen for a keyboard though
@@Alice_Fumo to be fair, the cost difference between a mouse and tablet is still relatively similar to a traditional keyboard and the wooting keyboard
Windowlife is living proof you don't need wooting
Common sense is also a good way of figuring out whether you need it but yeah

that's not what he's saying in the video
osu is kind of crazy nowdays, imagine if windowlife is the second coming of vaxei
they have apex pro tho, that's basically wooting made by steelseries. (btw i don't mean that he doesn't have speed skills, i just poited out what kb they have)
Sounds completely fine to me. Maybe I’ll pick one up in the future. We improved from membrane switches, players used the tablet instead of the mouse. Hardware has changed and improved for the better. Original tweeter was just non-sensical. Generally, one human input = one output sounds fine
I feel like the gap between mouse and tablet is almost non existent anymore nowadays you have more mouse players than ever reaching the top and playing in owc
It's just that the community is larger so there's bound to be people who think differently. It's true; hardware innovation has almost definitely aided the overall skill cap in osu
so much respect for the amount of editing / clip hunting that you put into even non-"feature length" videos such as this one
Was really curious about this keyboard, thanks for making a vid on it :)
yeah, interested to see how this would affect speed, speedjacks and especially vibro within mania though especially. could definitely see it being huge within high level gameplay

Cheap, somewhat reliable and quiet.
ATTang (droptable) used membrane boards for YEARS. Most of the mind blowing scores he's set were thanks to a KR office board
I think he used to buy them (or still buys them) in bulk lol

i have an old wooting one that i use for osu, as of writing this, it doesn’t support rapid trigger. However, being able to change where the actuation is helps a ton and because of how the switch works (contactless optical switch) the switches will never start chattering.
Wooting keyboard will be very comfortable. Whether you like it or not it will not increase your speed by any significant margin, but as mentioned in the video it should improve your stability on a bpm you can allready stream. Sounds like very good deal for any stream main, if you ask me.
200 dollars for extra consistentcy? Not worth it imo
@@Emerald_Forge such a casual take.
@@Alice_Fumo ik but 200 dollars is a lot of money even if you're really into the game this keyboard isn't going to make you happy or make the game more enjoyable or even make you significantly better so go spend it on something that will make you happy instead
@@Emerald_Forge Casual takes are fine.
@@Emerald_Forge thats actually not alot for most keyboard enthusiasts
overall at some point in life people will 100% get so fast that they will be limited by the keyboards actuation points, so in reality there will be a need for this kind of keyboard
I had the Wooting Two HE for nearly a year now and it has been the best keyboard for any game you could think of. The software feature Rapid Trigger literally can give you a REAL competitive advantage.
I've been using this keyboard for quite sometime now to improve my typing speed since it allowed me to do softer press and I never knew it could be use in osu this way.
This reminds me of the new maps that are getting ranked that are 12 stars and more. The players will be able to reach that star rating but to do so there is also a need in new equipment that’ll give them the ability to do so. It’s not just the player that needs to improve. I believe this keyboard is one step closer to the “impossible” (as the fixed mindset comments would say) of the new super insane ranked maps. We are going in the right direction accepting this because it will help us get closer to insane scores like a 12 star triumph pass. More insane players are rising and more insane maps are being added to the ranked leaderboards that cannot be played with outdated equipment. This keyboard is great for the future of osu.
2:25 "a new keyboard does not affect your current skill whatsoever"
no, it can totally affect your skill immensely though. like, switching a bad keyboard that has anything like input delay, uncomfortable form factor or generally bad build quality to a solid and good board can result in an immediate improvement (and a massive one at that)
I've noticed with every new innovation that allows people to do something they couldn't do before or it makes it easier, there are those who are upset because maybe they feel everyone should suffer the learning curve they did idk it's really weird those people, kinda like those guys who find a really good restaurant and won't share it publicly, or those weird music niches that when someone finds the song that little community gets mad in a weird way
basically conservatives but in the gaming community
i must admit that i am that kind of person that doesn't want to tell all people immidieately if i find something precious. If people find it they will firstly most likely ruin it, make it more expensive, make it cringe and so on. It will lose its specialty. Also lets say i tell a person something and later distrust them then i wouldn't like for that person to know something that is special to me. Also there is an aspect that is like where you feel like you deserve to be credited because you were the first. Idk it is quiet weird, but about wooting i think it is very nice that innovation comes out and i don't really find i have any of these feelings towards technical improvements.
@@ExperimentalKana yeah that first part just sounds like you grew up on the internet, but like the worst places possible, sry bout that
I never thought my keyboard was THAT special, I pre-ordered the wooting two lekker edition a bit back when it was still available from a friend’s recommendation, and I never really thought much of it until now.
as a hardware enthousiast, I always say: better hardware don't make you better but it will not limit your potential
I think its fine, but it should be banned in tournaments for obvious reasons.
I've heard about analog keyboards a while ago, always wanted to get one for FPS games. So I can slowly peak around corners instead of tapping at inconsistent speeds.
It is basically a keyboard with dynamic key travel.
Removal of the activation point for a keyboard sounds extremely cool. It's a minor thing but it just sounds like an upside without downside. Just a straight genuine improvement.
Great video as always, i love you man.
Good analogy
love the idea of these switches for clone hero
Back in mid 2016 as ProfessionalBox's style started to influence the defacto standard of what we consider 'tech maps' today (highly variable sv, emphasis on dense slider shapes, leveraging sliderend hitwindow to allow for broader pattern variety, etc), I became highly interested in what I lovingly referred to as "osu science." I devoted several months to researching any means of leveraging configurable game components to improve performance.
my studies mainly focused on hitsounds, skin elements, and hardware -- i theorized on several ways that crafting specially engineered gameplay resources might allow for more consistent gameplay. since at that time osu! felt to me like a playground for experimenting with the possibilities of human limits, as maps like Exit This Earth's Atomosphere and Notch Hell had come out in what felt like stark defiance to the status quo of "triangle mapping" and similar maps.
I synthesized extremely high-feedback hitsounds using pure saw/square/sine tones in a DAW, adjusting for length at very precise intervals, trying to generate the shortest possible sonics to reduce sound overlap and increase precision with timing (I had very poor finger control and tighter timings of hitsounds helped me be more accurate with adjusting offset and striking my keys). i also photoshopped extremely high-contrast skin elements, using colors with high luminance that are visually striking -- hot pink, chartreuse, safety orange, cyan -- in an attempt to reduce the necessary area of pixels required to indicate a hitobject.
i also messed with my keyboard, but unfortunately being a student at the time I could only really speculate on keyswitches, theorizing that linear switches with less actuation force, shorter stems, and specially-designed springs could allow for less fatigue due to less force required by the muscles and tendons. i looked into polling rate, USB bus throughput, latency caused by background processes, anything I could think out that might allow me to eke out an extra percent.
unfortunately, as a complete nobody, my forum posts were completely ignored, and maybe one or two people ever downloaded my modular skins. i didn't update them even after making improvements since the betas received such little attention. but later that year, rumors began surfacing of huge performance gains by using a HID device that operated utilizing two metal contact plates that created instantaneous keystrokes, not relying on mechanical switches at all. back then it was a big deal for a couple of months, until people felt it was debunked or too inconvenient and moved on. during that time, i wondered if its failure actually meant that the springs in mechanical switches lifting your fingers back off the actuation zone was a significant element of reducing strain and fatigue.
the fact that this keyboard is creating significant results feels like a huge triumph for me -- even though it is barely relevant to the specifics of what I was studying, the fact that an innovation in material technology resulted in such a dramatic improvement in the skill thresholds of so many players is an absolute breakthrough. And what a genius implementation on wooting's part. still being able to utilize spring relief, while achieving the virtually minimized actuation travel.... maximizing performance consistency was key all along. i'm very happy to hear about this.
as for people thinking that it's cheating, how completely ridiculous. touchscreen players were considered cheaters. even doubletime was considered extremely scummy play, while HDHR full-length maps were the only noble and righteous and dignified playstyle. it's laughable to think that everyone won't immediately jump on this like they did the custom high-performance tablet drivers. taking advantage of modern technology to maximize consistency of play isn't cheating, it's allowing for yourself to demonstrate the limits of your potential as a player, by removing all variables from your environment that could be contributing to your disadvantage.
what
This is basically like when someone runs with and without a backpack. They were always able to achieve their pace, they just had a something limiting them from doing it. The keyboard basically just unlocked that.
Well it's actually because normal keyboards are bottlenecked by their reset point. After all. If you click the switch and it doesn't activate how tf is that supposed to be good, at any point. Like in the demonstration. I always thought of having a keyboard that's like a controller for playing car games and not only having 1 input. On and off. But no OSU
Its kind of funny, around 1,5 years ago i bought the ProX touchpad (that one keypad with 2 copper plates instead of keys). After about 1 day of playing with it and getting slightly used to it, I just gained a flat 20bpm increase to my streaming, and also more stamina. After a week or 2, my fingercontrol also got like a flat bump. I could do maps I coudnt previously play at all to a point where It wasnt just regular incremental skill improvement.
With that keypad you can also kind of "vibro" stream, since there is no travel distance, just a plate. Ofcourse if you dont lift your finger enough then you will just hold the note. Now its not really an issue since vibroing with it isnt viable anyway. Like with any other keyboard, there is no accuracy in doing it, but its even more pronounced with the ProX. Also, since no force is required for input, you just get more stamina (that is ofcourse, after you get used to the thing).
Im really suprised there was no drama surrounding this keypad. Maybe people just didnt have the patience for the 5-10 hour adjustment period needed to get used to it and thus get the benefits.
this keyboard also blew up for fps shooters. it’s such a. game changer and is genuinely insane
I think that this keyboard is good for the game. As someone who can't currently alternate jumps consistently I find it easier to single tap them. But as the bpm starts to get into the alt range I've started to notice a lot of finger locking happening. Stopping me from setting many scores due to this fact. But after seeing this keyboard and what it does. Im convinced that this will completly help me with fingerlocking issue. I also find that I like to bottom out my keys for the feedback of a key press. If I can stream and single tap at bottom out, without having to go to my accuation point on a typical keyboard. Then this wooting keyboard would make it so I stand a chance against people who can alt and dont need to play at bottom out point.
I think this is similar to higher refresh rate monitors or low input lag peripherals for FPS they're all innovations that help pro players unlock their full potential but they also don't make a normal player into a pro.
wooting was never an unfair advantage, it simply just harnessed the full potential of speed players by allowing them to move their fingers as little as possible. In the same way that tablets are the dominant input method in the upper ranks of osu! the rapid trigger function is going to be the same necessity to stay competitive within the top ranks, there will of course be exceptions, but for the most part everyone is going to want switches with rapid trigger.
great video as usual! 😎
I love that the osu community slowly but surely rediscovers the grand piano action, just in a smaller package...
Can’t wait to get this keyboard for osu mania. Feel like that would be a significant boost for me since I’m a new player

Ngl, just from this video I kinda want to save up and get a good enough set up to be able to play OSU. I have played it before casually and I can see why it is a very fun and enjoyable game. But seeing how there is a whole community around being the fastest at pressing keys to get high BPM as well as tracking makes me want to do so and try and compete within this community. But we’ll see in the future 😅
I started playing osu way back in 2012, when most people playing the game didn't want to/couldn't afford to take the plunge into buying a tablet. Still to this day I hear friends saying that "tablet is cheating", without taking the time to become truly proficient at either. Every time someone comes up with a new way to play the game more efficiently this argument comes up. Whether or not speed is overweighted is a different issue, but can we not just all agree that streaming 330 is an insane achievement, regardless of the current hardware? Because it really is
Wooting keyboard made my brain remember of my fortnite days when this exactly thing happen. Pro-players bought the WootingKB to abuse of a feature that had been removed from regular keyboards, and they sold out in 2 weeks. Just seeing these two exact same situations spark a possibility that more analogic keyboards and switches start to appear. For osu!, I always disliked the idea of "one rewardable" playstyle, like the speed meta nowadays, and the dt1tricks 2 years ago. A lot of things will change in a very short time, and it will be fun to watch as always :)
got this keyboard just before this big controversy happened and i feel so lucky
i play mania instead of std and the keyboard just feel so much more comfortable and is faster
also for accuracy in mania the tachyon speed mode is amazing since it gives you a -1.4 ms delay which is really good for accuracy
I don't think its a cheater keyboard i just think its a great keyboard and gives players the chance to show their full potential
I've just updated my keyboard to gateron reds which are incredibly smooth and light, I don't want to spend money for another miniscule upgrade. By the way, I always compare myself to old cookiezi's interview, when he said that he can stream 240 long streams on his cherry mx keyboard. I am not on the same level yet, that means the skill issue is only my fault but not of my devices
wooting now needs to make a 3key keyboard specifically for osu!
I got a keyboard with analog switches a long time ago and the difference in my tapping speed was immediately fastee
Basically, it's the community adjusting to the sudden lack of a hardware limitation. It's similar to when speedrunning communities get a remake for a game or a new way to play said game, whether or not to put it in a new category due to the differences in hardware limitations
(For example, how console releases are sometimes under a different category than PC releases due to the PC runners having a stronger PC and might not have framerate limitations in older games that do not allow emulation for the console variants)
Thanks for telling me gonna go order one now ✌️
I actually told my friend like 7 months ago that this keyboard might be broken on osu! and he tought it wouldnt matter
Great video.
I just want that kind of switch to be more commonplace for the sole reason of games that require/have driving as it would be nice to have some actual speed control on mouse and keyboard
The only reason why I ordered this is so I can troll by alternating on the spacebar
Along with wooting the SteelSeries apex pro/tkl also has the analogue switches.
Havent really looking into " gaming " keyboards, but wouldnt the Steel series pro with the mag switches be faster? or is the alloy now faster then steel series.
The keyboard in question of this video, osu mania will have a new main keyboard sheeeeesh
i am very scared for when mrekks wooting arives
I’d love if this feature was more accessible, maybe in a keypad or something so I could try it but I really don’t think I’d help most osu players playstyle. If you wanna call it cheating the only thing this keyboard cheats in is holding turn angles in trackmania
I’ve been using one of these wooting keyboards for over a year now, (The limited “lekker edition” came out early, around April/May 2021) and there was NOT a significant jump in any skills in osu. It actually took me a couple weeks to get used to the keyboard before I was able to surpass my performance on my old keyboard. To be honest I don’t really notice the rapid trigger too much and if rapid trigger did make a significant difference it likely would’ve been noticed when the lekker edition came out.
Gi back to the normal keyboad than, please, state here if there is a difference in how you can stream
Also, switch intermittently your wooting between the average keyboard
@@SeleverEnjoyer it might be true that this person didn't experience a jump in skill. There's also players that didn't improve after getting a 144hz+ monitor for example. That doesn't really take away from others who do see improvement though does it
And you are not a top player.
Sytho were nowhere near close streaming 270, now he streams 310👍
All cuz he can buy a 200$ keyboard.
If this was free, it would be fair. However it's not.
You are buying real, and very noticable advantage.
And so, what if someone are not able to afford a 200$ keyboard, or it's not even available in their country?
I would look at you, if you were a top speed player, that is trying to compete, and then some guy that was years of work behind just buys a keyboard and now hes better.

I have the wooting one, I'll have to check if that keyboard also has this mechanic.
this make me think about what happened on minecraft pvp when people started doing 30 and more cps because of some mouse being able to do 3 cps and more in one click and butterfly clicking
That’s like scufs vs regular controllers. If you’re really about it. You invest.
rapid trigger just like tapping on a screen guys, the difference is your finger contact to a keycaps.
well just for osu but for keyboard fanatic it's actually a very good sounding keyboard and game changing for fps. The Company is coming towards a storm fight with Steel Series with Omni point switches. Yes I know the keyboard is very expensive costing $220 total with shipping tax.
if you are techy
it was like cpu gpu thing
once your gpu too powerfull the cpu will start bottlenecking and thus fps dips(just like how fingelocking does in osu or feetlocking does in ddr) same also hapens if the cpu is too powerfull your gpu will tanking up and cause lower fps than it should be(we can say this is as if player who are pros using crappy phripherals, they cant fully utilised their power wich again bottlenecking hapens)
I think that wooting keyboard just removes the limit of how fast you can stream, and if you were able to stream 400 bpm but your keyboard locks it into 280 this keyboard from wooting just removes it
Interesting video! I myself, only use a Razor keyboard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Rohulk sponsored by them for a while few years ago? I remember him playing with one and even had a link for it in the command somewhere
damn, since when jump meta switched to speed meta
so wooting keyboard is like the mouse vs tablet discussion now.
I feel like I would mess up more with it cus I have super heavy tapping. I mean yeah, it'll help finger locking but idk im rank 68k lol
This keyboard seems like a reasonable leap in technology, hand cramps are a huge part of this game so making keyboards that are less stressful with their keyboard presses just sounds like solution to this problem. Turns out solving this problem is allowing players to easier maintain higher speeds as a result. I hope this technology becomes more common.
i somehow heard about this keyboard at spring this year with a short description on youtube shorts
i looked it up, but i couldnt find any way to buy it
now i feel like wooting finally deserves the recognition they deserve
This keyboard would also help a lot of mania players as well ngl lol
used an Razer optical before and i can confirm
Wait, how does the switch work? Does it have a potentiometer-thing?
u always creative in ur videos W
The thing with wooting is that it seems to eliminate the need to refine one's technique and it makes up for those inadequacies. On a regular keyboard, when it comes to streaming, unless your technique is very solid at the BPM you are streaming, you might experience fingerlock, run out of stamina and end up missing or even failing a map because of such things. I think it's disingenuous to say that players were always capable of such things on their old keyboard, especially when basically no one except aetrna had such consistency on those extreme BPMs.
How does this effect Mania? It seems like a gamemode designed around tapping fast would be the most impacted but does it lose acc or just increase tap/mash speed?
Just increase tap speed, tho for mania I'd say it may have a problem of being too sensitive
There are vibro patterns you have to jitter your hands on the keyboard.
as per anything, if one aspect of the game becomes grossly overweighted and/or something generally considered difficult stops being difficult for most players it'll get rebalanced, if suddenly everyone is comfortable doing 300bpm streams then those streams will be weighted lower in future pp calc updates
So it’s like a hit box in fighting games. When hard ware gives you an advantage
Welp, guess it's time to map speedcore at the actual tempo now.
this seems like a non issue apart from the fact i cant buy em without a keyboard around it to put into my custom stuff that'd be dope
It's basically a tablet but for tapping.
It doesn't make you better, just raises thebskill ceiling
What’s crazy is that rapid trigger doesn’t even seem like a hardware thing. Theoretically any analog switch should be able to do it with a software update, no? I don’t know why more keyboards with similar hardware to wooting aren’t copying features that are almost entirely software.
3:49 what keycaps are those?
doesnt steelseries have analog switches too? apex pro?
Well, time to make this switch and try it I guess :/
i think that this keyboard would be very good for me, i was using silver switches but i changed to red switches but at the time i was using the silver switches i could stream 270 bpm. but i was not liking my stream technique so i started using red switches and i changed my tapping
imagine what will happen when we switch to using neural interfaces
ngl this is being very blown out i get that alot of speed players will use this to get better scores but the thing is we already had very very very light press switches like silvers and others so its not going to change much past peoples preference and skill cap

Correct me if I am wrong. But honestly, these innovations might be safer. Less force may mean less strain on the fingers and wrist.
I think with the recent announcements of the multiple rapid trigger capable keypads will completely remove the "wooting/rapid trigger is cheating" because the people that couldn't get the wooting keyboards before will have rapid trigger. It also helps that the rapid trigger capable keypads that have been popping up so far are more affordable than most of the keypads that people were using before.
Some might call the speed players using this keyboard the "wooting clan"
