Thank you Grateful Dead from an Irish deadhead. Saw many shows when I lived in the states, some from the soundboard. Forever grateful for it all. Whenever I listen to the Dead I find my peaceful place. Miss Gerry and the band but the music lives on. Peace and love. ✌️❤️
This was a time in history that I believe will never happen again what a shame today's society cannot comprehend or be able to enjoy good times like this again there was a magic from the band and in the crowd that can't be explained
I was the girl in the blue Indian hippie dress spinning on 89. Best time of my life next to raising my little ones. Jerry you will always be remembered for your music and who you were as a person. Many roads my dear man. I will forever be deadicated to you!
I was 16 when Jerry passed, I remember watching the news that night. Virtually all my friends were huge fans. RIP Jerry❤️ Casey Jones & Unbroken Chain are my faves!!!
I was in Alaska at the time and was at two concerts in California earlier in 95. Some people offered us a ride to the next show. Instead we went to Alaska thinking we could go home to Oakland and see them in a month. I never got too. I went to the memorial in Golden Gate Park. We went over there on BART. A massive drum circle started and somehow that was more interesting than listening to the family and friends talk about Jerry who has moved us through his music. It almost felt like he had only shared his deepest emotional expressions with us, his listeners and followers.
***** My father was driving somewhere when he heard the news on the radio of Jerry's passing. He was a life-long Dead Head. He had to pull over and take it all in. I don't know if he cried, but it wouldn't have surprised me.
When I was younger, I would follow the Dead to many of their concerts. The spirit of behind the aura of their sound was very strong. But despite Jerry Garcia's passing, the awesome energy they fed to their followers still hovers over the hippie movement they represented and their music will live forever. JC
Rab Feenie What do you have against the Grateful Dead, they made so many people happy. I think it’s fair to let people mourn him, and the music he brought. Just calm down with the hate...
I was just reading cengen's comments. Hey man! What ever happened to different strokes for different folks? I like many of the bands he made reference to, and I like the dead. Relax dude! It's just music. We get you don't like the dead, but when the U.S. miltary bombed the biggest teaching hospital in Southeast Asia, the dead played a free gig to raise money to rebuild it! So there is some good that came out of their existence! For me, Jerry wasn't the greatest guitarist I ever saw, but it was more the atmosphere and feeling of comraderie. I'm 51 now and I look back on my years touring with the dead as the happiest time of my life. Peace y'all. RIP Jerry, I miss you more than words can tell!
The magic still lives folks, believe it or not. I went to Dead n Co last night, the spirit is still alive, No question. Obviously there are bad apples in every bunch, but 99.9% of the people there are true heads that get it. The bottle was dusty, but the liquid was clean. (~);} the Dead don't die folks!
the music still plays , but there are no replacements for certain musicians like Garcia ,Santana , Clapton - once they are gone they are gone !! I was fortunate enough to see Jerry in the dead and his own band over 66 times - all the guys that have filled in since his passing are great , but believe me NO ONE can play just like the late Jerry Garcia !!

22 years today Jerry Garcia left this world rest in peace my brother 75 years old today he was on August 1st I went to the Red Rocks concert Jerry Garcia 75th birthday I love the Grateful Dead and miss my brother Jerry Garcia I love the dead I never will ever get enough of the Grateful Dead the dead is my world the dead has no mercy death has no mercy I love the Grateful Dead
I vaguely remember when he died, but I had not listened to the Grateful Dead and didn't see the big deal. I moved in to the dorms about a week and a half later for my freshman year at college and remember hearing a lot of Grateful Dead being played that first week or so, especially Uncle John's Band. About a year later I discovered Phish and finally found the music that really resonated with me. Along the way I did listen to more of the Dead, but it wasn't until after college around 2003 when I met my Phishhead wife (who was a Deadhead before she found Phish) that I really explored much more of the Dead and came to know and love all their music and the different live shows. I just wish I had discovered them sooner, seen a show with Jerry, and was able to really appreciate that momentous loss on the day he died.
I saw the Dead 32 times between 1992 - 1994 as well as 8 - 10 concerts of their individual members...never had a bad time. Some of the best times of my life following them around the East coast. Tremendous music tremendous vibe.
I only recently have discovered the GD because one of my good friends has been a head for his entire life, passed down from his dad, who adored them. I wish i could go back to see one of their concerts, that would be absolutely life changing.
got into the dead the day he passed. I was 16, went to work, realized every1 called out and was having a lil wake/party. went to that party, heard (and saw) things I never have B4:)
I saw them in Gainesville FLA around 1977. Good Green grass still available for about $30 an oz. Had one on me at the concert. An old man offered me one of his and I saw only purple for about half the concert. OMG I really heard the music good that night. California Sunshine lasted about an hour. The whole concert lasted 4 hours. It was the longest concert I ever attended. They played everthing they had.
Thank you for posting this! I havent seen it before. I was at the Peace garden in Chicago. The police let us stay all night. threw people out of Grant & wouldn't let anyone else in after park after it was time to close. They let us stay though! love is real not fade away!
I was out in Van Nuys When Jerry Passed , We set up Memorials and Cried .. I Sure am Happy with the decisions of the remaining Members . Bob and Phil have a Lot of Stuff Here on UA-cam and Rat Dog was Great . We Go to Fish Concerts . I think People will always gravitate to The Music . Miss Him

I remember that day when they announced it. I was bummed. It has never been the same since. But the spirit is still there.
For those who don't know, the dead never claimed to be making anything other than dance music. They basically threw a huge dance party every other night , somewhere different , for 30 yrs. even if you don't like the music, isn't it possible to see the awesomeness in that?
FortWarren that's a fact. I had a friend in the insurance industry in 92 who told me, though I was in denial. For some reason, it was known in his circles. Then he missed a few tours and started looking really bad. It became obvious.
Atasiding 0 . You had a friend in the insurance industry in 92 who told you what ? You were in denial about what ? Their drug use ? Could not understand what you were speaking about, but wondered what you meant . I have family in insurance to this day .

Alex Niederhauser . ? "A sorrow to the dear tucts of mine eye . . . " A sorrow to the what ? You were thinking faster than your ability to type on the first part of that comment ? Had to laugh & read it twice. No big deal. But would have thought that such an ethereal comment might have been proof-read before it was posted. "Today's music is never down the tubes. . ." With that I must disagree. Much of what is produced today is not enjoyable to me. But some is really remarkable.
"Oh look it's Jerry!" I said with a deep warmth in my heart. I was looking at an old black and white foto of a clean-shaven Jerry Garcia looking into the sun, himself also beaming, grinning in SF Golden Gate Park. The foto was part of a collection of old fotos from the SF scene in the 1960s. My girlfriend and I had gone out for early morning breakfast in 1995 to "Issak's" Cafe in San Rafael CA. It was out first time there. We didn't know it but 5 hours earlier at a drug rehab clinic in Forest Knolls (about a 20 minute drive from San Rafael) Jerry Garcia had died! As the news began to spread the San Rafael Independent Journal published an EXTRA edition with a full page foto of Jerry. It was that day that I felt a special connection with Garcia someone I met once and heard with the Grateful Dead in the 1960s.
I remember exactly where i was when i got the news of jerry's passing. I was on interstate I-40 in knoxville tennessee coming home from work. I pulled off the highway and into a store parking lot, turned off the motor, roll a joint, and simply cried my eyes out. The whole world cried that day. What a long strange trip its been.
I WAS PERSONALLY INTRODUCED TO HIM AT HIS STUDIO IN SAN RAFAEL IN JUNE 1974. HE MADE ME FEEL LIKE A LONG LOST BROTHER. ALWAYS MY FAVORITE MUSICIAN. I ALWAYS SAT BACKSTAGE IN THE 70's HE DIED ON MY BIRTHDAY. I WAS ALMOST KILLED ON MY JOB THAT DAY AS A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR. ONLY MY EXTRAORDINARY REFLEXES SAVED ME FROM CERTAIN DEATH. I'VE OFTEN WONDERED IF PEOPLE WHO DIE ON THE SAME DAY WILL ENCOUNTER EACH OTHER ON THE OTHER SIDE? JERRY WOULD HAVE RECOGNISED ME I'M SURE.
This guy. This guy just shows no emotion. I try to also, but music transcends. I'll never forget when Jerry died. I was 13, and my sis had introduced me to then for about 2 years. We lit candles and smoked a couple of joints, listening to some cassettes that we had traded. Put it this way. I have 2 tattoos on my left leg, meaning he was, and is, still a part a big part of who I am and how I play guitar.
I love the Dead and Jerry Garcia. I love Jerry's sense of humor as it comes through in interviews, and I love their music. But I really only know them from three albums: "Aoxomoxoa," "Workingman's Dead," and "American Beauty", so the whole live performing, improvisational side of their music I don't know. I still feel like a Deadhead though.
They cleared 50 million in the last year they played. Must have been doing something the rest of the musicians couldn't….. for 30+ years. No synthesizers, just an amazing mix of rock, folk and blue grass music mixed into an amazing jam for 3 or 4 hours...Magical.
Real eyes, realise, real lies!!! We're all on a journey to the other side and the journey is where it's at. Bending with the Dead was some of the best times in my life
Ok cengeb we know you think the dead suck. That's you right but regardless of your opinions here are some facts: Jerry brought happiness to many many people Grateful Dead had an original sound Jerry Garcia is still missed by many many people Nothing you can say will change this. I would still like to know what you are trying to accomplish with all these negative posts? It is that you hate the dead so much you want other people to hate them?
Now it is 23 years ago. I view it differently. With all respect, watching Jerry health decline from 1980 to 1986 was as if I saw him killing himself. The return in 1987 and most shows sold out was interesting. Yet my hero couldn't read a teleprompter for a simple song Eye's of the world. I could see it from my seat 20 feet away. Yes I really loved acoustic Jerry Garcia shows with John Kahn. Anger is what I feel for Addiction and do as you like life style not only my hero had but as myself and my friends had. The last time I saw him was in Highgate Vermont. I said enough and skipped Pittsburgh and told my friends he is not Staying Alive in 95 as my bumper sticker from the decent Shoreline California shows said. I was not the slightest bit surprised. Thank you for a real good time. Sorry that's how I see at age 52 and saw him near 130 times. What a rare person and true guitar player. What a sweet voice.
I miss you captain trips, I grew up when there was magic on the radio, when I heard the dead where ever I was I was in a trance ,it over took my soul and I became a dead head, I was oblivious to my surroundings , didn't matter where I was , who I was, with, or what time of day it was, I was intertwined with the music of the gratefull dead, my soul breathed, the sun shined brighter,, weight was lifted ofc my shoulders, I can't explain it, nor will I try,
This troll has really commented like 100,000 times talking shit about the dead. What a cool guy lol. Luckily most of us have brains and know that Jerry is one of the nicest and greatest musicians to ever live, and he will always live on through the music. Nothing in the world like the Grateful Dead.
"You have to pay attention" (5:16). That's what was so cool. I loved The Party, as I always called their shows (as in, "You going to The Party?"), but when I danced to the solos I'd have to stop at times to stare: "He's doing WHAT?" Thanks for The Party, Jerry. Thanks for playing.
I don't know what concerts the reporter lady was talking about. I've been to many of Jerry and the guys shows and I never saw any of what she said. Everyone was friendly and happy. Laughing and sharing things with one another. They would play and the crowd would sing along or dance or just spin. Sadly we lost this when we lost Jerry. It's taken me till a friend of mine made a vlog on Jerry recently to come back to the Dead. It hurt too much to know Jerry isn't with us anymore. I still have pictures of him in my house. I miss Jerry. Thank you for trip Jerry. It was amazing.
I remember the sad day this happened...when Jerry passed away due to his heart...but complications due to diabetes...but Bar Harbor Maine celebrated his life and gave him tribute to him with chalk tributes on the sidewalks...ever square had a tribute to him...nobody wslked on the sidewalks after that...for a whole week..until the rain washed them away a week later....
If you like them or not... Jerry doesn't care about and so do i. The thing is, the dead did music in a way that no other Band did. Great jam rock, psychedelic rock. Like zappa, hate him or love him. Did Jerry too much drugs, yes. But that was his personell decision. Nobody should care what These guys do in private. The music Talks for itself. Great, fantastic and timeless floating. Songs like morning dew will never get old.
Well folks it is not a competition, the touring records are being broke all the time and of course the money is exponentially growing with every tour. Mr.MPG, a Phish show can never compare to what the Dead experience was, ever, regardless of numbers. I have seen dozens of both and they are two different animals. I just miss the fact I can't run to the front of the stage to hear Jerry hit the first chords.!!! Mind you I got Phish tickets for July and they still can't sell out these days. Praises

Thanks Jerry...and the rest of members of THE GRATEFUL DEAD...for all the shows. It was a long strange trip.
A sad day that came after the great gift of music Jerry brought us for so long... we shared and continue to love!!!!
The true American rock band. RIP Jerry.

I watch this and my heart sinks , I feel it like it was yesterday . Wow ,
A dead show was the greatest time a person could have. I still miss this, and always will.

Rock n roll will never be the same. Were old now, too many 60’s-70’s artists are gone
I cried again watching this as I did the evening of August 9th 1995 when this clip was broadcast.

Happy to say that Garcia was better than I first realized.
Hope you somehow hear this, Mr. Garcia.

17 years...Gone but NEVER forgotten, Jerry! It was a beautiful era indeed...
Yes ten years and hundreds of shows. love the band and never let me down, until jerry passed..

wrong Hackers notme they had synths...
Real eyes, realise, real lies!!!
We're all on a journey to the other side and the journey is where it's at. Bending with the Dead was some of the best times in my life
Forever Grateful Not Fade Away
No one ever had a bad time at a Dead concert. Ever. So sweet.
A sweet mix indeed. And it still lives.
Todays music is down the tubes couldn't have said it any better
Ok cengeb we know you think the dead suck. That's you right but regardless of your opinions here are some facts:
Jerry brought happiness to many many people
Grateful Dead had an original sound
Jerry Garcia is still missed by many many people
Nothing you can say will change this. I would still like to know what you are trying to accomplish with all these negative posts? It is that you hate the dead so much you want other people to hate them?
This is a quality journalist, wish there were more like him now instead of the stooge clowns we have today.
Nice touch to close the segment with Box of Rain. Heavy song.

The way I had read that, was as if your bumper sticker had read. “Jerry’s not gonna make it past 95’” hahaha
I miss you captain trips,
I grew up when there was magic on the radio, when I heard the dead where ever I was I was in a trance ,it over took my soul and I became a dead head, I was oblivious to my surroundings , didn't matter where I was , who I was, with, or what time of day it was, I was intertwined with the music of the gratefull dead, my soul breathed, the sun shined brighter,, weight was lifted ofc my shoulders, I can't explain it, nor will I try,
The ERA has never died
This troll has really commented like 100,000 times talking shit about the dead. What a cool guy lol. Luckily most of us have brains and know that Jerry is one of the nicest and greatest musicians to ever live, and he will always live on through the music. Nothing in the world like the Grateful Dead.
you know exactly what's in that balloon at 6:53
Good times
hahaha .. i did not see that .. good eye
I watched this the day he died. Can't believe it's been 16 years already.
"You have to pay attention" (5:16). That's what was so cool. I loved The Party, as I always called their shows (as in, "You going to The Party?"), but when I danced to the solos I'd have to stop at times to stare: "He's doing WHAT?" Thanks for The Party, Jerry. Thanks for playing.
excellent journalism!
Always loved the Dull bassy sound.
6:57 this man had it good. Just look at today’s music scene
Thank you.
My dad still has his tapes from the shows he was at
Jerry was a talented musician, a Head, a great man and a friend to all deadheads. Ty Jerry...unforgettable Jerry ,👽😍😍👍👍☠️😂
Sadest day in my life
Love always
@cengeb then what is real music?
Jerry we miss you
If you like them or not...
The day the music died
The music never stopped. Jerrys death is sad but his legacy lives on. There are people who weren't born when jerry died following dead and co.
But the music never stopped!
got about a foot away from him for an hour at the bill graham memorial concert in golden gate park. right at the stage. no seats just walkby
Praises
I miss the fatman more than my own dad. What a wonderful trip it’s been
