How interesting. I could listen to this guy talk about the history of boots all day long. Hopefully I'll get the chance to have a pair made in his shop one day soon! Definitely will visit!
I’ve worn boots all of my life, or to be exact, since I learned to walk. My dad, his dad, both wore boots, so he felt I should too. The most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned were a pair of Hyer Brothers boots, made with kangaroo skin. They had a round toe, which I have always preferred. Since Hyer Bros. sold out, I’ve worn Luccheses, because they offer the same quality and comfort Hyer’s did, except for the price. To me boots are a heck of a lot more comfortable than any other kind of shoes. Plus I’ve owned and worked with horses for 65 years.
I wear my lucchese boots to the office everyday over here in the West coast, I don’t a rats as what other people say .....( I hear them) “You can take the cowboy out the prairie,, BUT you can’t never take the prairie out of the cowboy....and the truth cowgirls and buckaroos”
I have extensive experience with Ray Dorwart and I still have three pairs that have been through thick and thin. He’s the best bootmaker walking the earth. I know folks will disagree, but that’s just because they don’t know One day Ray will be gone and we will have lost someone irreplaceable

Best boots I ever had was a pair of Hyer Boots (Olathe, Kansas). Kangaroo vamp, alligator tips and heels, and kid tops, riding heel, and could shine up like a mirror. The kangaroo leather seemed thin, but it wore like crazy. It was a bad day that factory burned.
@@vmb0919 I sincerely hope it is more than just a resurgence of the name, not some foreign company selling under that name. Late edit: Looks like, according to their website, it IS the original Hyer family having recovered the name, and proceeding with a new line.

Just as those order books area part of history and need to be preserved even if 99% of today’s society is obviously to the importance of our past. All of the boots molds (sorry I do not know how to spell what they call them) in the back of the shop need to be saved for the future. Unfortunately as he said there are no more craftsmen left anymore I know it sounds terrible to say but in today’s world our best option would be to digitally scan everyone allowing us to at least save this amazing craft. We would then have the information saved and with today’s technology we could 3D Print a recreation when these pieces of history are lost.
I have always wanted a custom boots but i can't afford them ,my feet are flat and regular stores boots always hurt my feet ,mabey one day i can afford them .
Joe Guzman most boots have a good arch support which is whats hurting your feet if theyre hurting your feet. I dont think any boot would be comfortable if you have flat feet. It forces your foot into shape thats not natural if you dont have an arch
I love them but I am 18 year old French guy and 6'3" so if I had heels like that I will look ridiculous tall. I have seen tall people wearing them before and they look silly. Can I get a cowbow boot with low heel?
I've got a pair of Ferrini square toe boots, had them for quit awhile, beat the living crap out of em' and they still are going strong, wore the rubber heals to the point if you pull back on them, the rubber some what seperates. But, that's what happens,I wear'em everyday.
Thanks for keeping a piece of Ameri-cana alive! It is our history, but also, it is back in style. Many Hispanics have brought it back in style again. The western look is coming back in, the boots and hats last, and made to actually work in. The sissy look is going out of style, people are fed up with it.
The vaqueros or " cowboy " culture is Mexican from the hats to the boots...so there mot bringing it back it always was them...Mexican culture have more influence in America then you know.
@@sjsndnfcckdnccc4862 where are the European cowboys where are the European cowboy hats, boots, clothing and culture ect.? There maybe horses and those who ride them but Mexicans created a culture for it.
The Stetson originated in the US. So did standard denim jeans. Some things originated in Mexico/Spain while others not. The petty squabbles over who owns cowboy culture is ridiculous.
Not to disparage cowboy boots, but a good pair of 16-20" Wesco Packers can't be beat by any cowboy boot for riding and heavy outdoor work combination. I have 3 nice pairs of cowboy boots, and they are good for pretty much one thing.... aesthetics. If you actually need to do a lot of work, a packer boot is a much better option for proper ankle support, leg protection, and riding. Wesco uses top quality heavy duty 7oz full grain leather, top to bottom. They look fantastic and are practically BOMBPROOF. White's also makes great packer boots, but they only come in 12". if you need extra leg protection, the Wesco brand is much better, as they go up to 20" if needed.
The original cowboy boot makers must have learned the trade from Romanian tailors. 16th century Romanian boots look almost identical minus the heel. Heels weren't invented till later
Trey Ahzze, some folks, when they come across things that they don't have a clue about, just make up things. They guess rather than do research, so what you get now and then is an "explanation" that's ridiculous nonsense. Don't believe everything you read. The traditional heel design was strictly functional, not a fashion statement. It allowed the wearer to dig his heels into the soft dirt with less effort and risk of injury. Few wear them today because of their tradeoffs on hard surfaces as an everyday boot.
The word bukaroos comes from the Spanish word vaquero....and when pronounced the "V" sounds like a "B".....vaquero means cowboy....the Spanish brought horses and cows but the Mexicans created the "cowboy culture" its 100 percent Mexican! By the way of Spain!
