Lava tornado is a term I never expected to see, but man that really was it. I can only imagine the size of those lava stones getting thrown around like that.

That is crazy! It moved back and forth, no particular direction.

That is amazing, this must be the only video in the world that has captured such occurrance.

There were many videos of the same thing at the Geldingadalir Volcano in March-April 2021.

Another reason why people should not go near the lava

This is not a tornado as it is not associated with any storm. It is a fire whirl or lava whirl as all the energy comes from the heat of the lava. Yes, I am a meteorologist.

@@marksubblefield6092 - It's basically more like a dust devil, or fire whirl, eh?

@@reddog-ex4dx its just a difference in nomenclature due to the origin of the effect its still just as wild of a meteorological feature nothing has been spoiled, the lava is so hot that it is creating enough of a spin to start spinning winds in the colder air potentially at tornado level forces, we all saw the same thing.

Lavanado, very cool. I witnessed a firenado when I was a kid with some friends. The firenado went across 3 hills lights everything in its path. No one believed us.

Crazy that it ended pretty close to where it started! 😮 It looked fairly strong, given the size of the lava bombs it was throwing.

I am not surprised being all that heat in a cold climate. Awesome video.

Those lava domes have been built up really quickly! Maybe helped by a very cold wind?
