I love that you put this out there.
I recently moved into a rental property that has Vinyl flooring (looks like wood but isn't). I know it's vinyl because the is a box with extra pieces/planks in the garage.
The floors have something on them that in some spots appears sticky (so thought maybe it was the adhesive used to put the flooring down) but in other spots all over the house it looks like drips and splatter marks (like whatever it is was very thin yet wet in a mop or something and they went from the front of the house to the back and dripped the entire way) and this is very shiny but no stickiness at all. These spots and splatters are definitely not thick enough to scrape, not even with my fingernail so I have no idea what it is. And I can't really see any place in the house that an entire area is shiny.
I cleaned the entire house last week with soap and water as warm/hot as I could get it. Put on with mop (left a bit wet), scrubbed with a broom while still damp/wet, used mop to soak up water, then went back over with clean damp mop. I've tried in an inconspicuous place to remove whatever it is using soap & water, straight vinegar, rubbing alcohol, acetone, I even tried Goo-Gone. This last works for the sticky but not the shiny stuff. Any suggestions for what it could be and how to remove it?
