I put some of these on my 93 Jeep YJ I started resetting one and it was super soft and made the Jeep rattle a lot when I put it on nine everything was super firm stiff and actually took away a lot of the rattling of the Jeep so I love thee shocks
For rock crawling, do you want stiff or soft shocks (Toquerville Falls, Ut)? What about for partially rocky terrain (basic nonpaved road with tractor bumps)? What feels better to driver vs what is better for the suspension (least damage/wear-tear)? Advice would be greatly appreciated!
For our east coast terrain I found a higher setting like 7-9 worked well for slow rock crawling, mainly for when a tire drops off/slams off a ledge etc the extra damping helped in my opinion since I have only factory bump stops. Forest service roads the lower settings work better I usually was using settings 3-4. Hope that helps.

For towing I think you would like the adjustments in the rear shocks. I would likely find a happy middle ground for the front and just leave that adjustment alone. I think they would work great on the Ram 1500

So just to get this straight. The knob will not turn clockwise past 9? It won’t keep going around clockwise until it gets back to 1? So when i full turn to the right ( righty tighty) it is at 9 and i can just work my way back from there?

This is exactly why I bought a set just for the front of my '04. While towing our RV (bagged and WD hitch in the rear) the front rebounds too many times. Hopefully this solves that!
Goid, simple video. Tks. Big question for me is the inside starting point of the adj knob. Ive taken.both adj knobs off.my new 9000xl and they turn fine. Greased them, put them back, only can adj 1/4 turn. Have the adj tool now, havent tried it yet, because, i need to know is the internal starting point for the knob when the end is flush with the cover plate....thats as far in as it will turn...OR, one clockwise rotation, when its off its a out 1/4" or so, is that the starting point to put the cover plate back on and then adj the knob 1-9.
With knob removed the adjustment knob will be flush with the cover for starting point and at that point the little rib with the #1 beside it should be pointing straight up, install it back on the shock at this point.
For a Jeep JK Wrangler then yes yours are installed incorrectly. But on a Jeep JK they can only be installed one way. No real way to install them incorrectly on a Jeep. I guess it depends on the vehicle, what are you driving?
Does this adjust the rebound too or is it just the compression rate? Do you happen to know if there are shocks for trucks where you can adjust the compression independently from the rebound?
It’s my understanding the adjustments are for compression and rebound is pre-determined by the shim stack on the shock piston. I’m confirming with the Rancho guys and will report back
That was more information that I ever got from Rancho itself and the socks that I bought the arrow that point down to the the dial is not even where the dial is offset by 2in
It’s my understanding that the adjustments only control compression rate of the shock, I believe the rebound is controlled by a predetermined shim stack on the shock piston. There is a rebound bumper in the shock to reduce “shock” from rapid rebound.
That was my first attempt at welding. Yeah they ugly but it’s bonded good. I learned a lot for next time for sure. One will be removing the axle from the Jeep. For a newbie welding upside down just wasn’t working to good.
@@Georgia4Low if you want some pointers I’d be glad to help. But no that is not bonded good. Looks like your wire speed was crazy high. If it pops and snaps there is no penetration and a poor weld. There will be a nice smooth buzz to your weld. Where do you live?
@FishSnatcher I “tested” each inner C gusset with a BFH multi times and I couldn’t knock them loose. I understand that’s likely not a true test but it was enough to let me know it’s bonded. These parts are just added gussets and axle repairs. I think I was getting good heat as I was discoloring the inner C around the welded area. An area I had an issue with was getting the axle area 100% clean. With the axle on the Jeep it was nearly impossible to get a good tool in the areas for grinding paint etc. I borrowed a welder for this, I hope to purchase one later so I can practice more cause I kind of enjoyed it but definitely want to become better. I watched enough videos and been around some good welders to understand what to listen for when welding. That buzzing type sound. Getting the wire feed and temp right was a bit of a struggle. I could have asked for help from my buddy but I wanted to do it myself. I did practice on two spare pieces of steel trying to set up the welder but I think the cast steel parts on the axle were fighting me and my lack of skill. I was able to weld a lot better with smaller gaps. Thanks
I have ran mine on #1 and it was too soft for me. The Jeep is different than the Titan for sure. I recommend setting them on #1 as a starting point and drive it, make adjustments from there. I did find that 3-4 was more factory like ride. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I ordered the tool. I can't believe I'm going to have to remove the bottom of the shocks on the front in order to adjust them because that tool is not going to fit in the tight spot on my Ram :/
The adjustment knob allows you to adjust soft and firm settings. Setting #1 is the softest setting and #9 is the firmest setting. From setting #1 to #9 the settings get progressively firmer.
no those are not factory, that was my first attempt at welding. I will likely tackle that project again here soon as I have gained more welding skills.
No, that's was my first weld project and it's bad for sure. I totally screwed it up and hope to correct it at some point since I have gained a little better skill.

Rancho RS9000XL RS999845 Suspension Strut - got a new set. The number is 9 on the right side of the ridge. Also on these new shocks there is no arrow on the shock body. No biggy. The tool is necessary. I can't get them to turn to all detents by hand but have hand/finger issue(s). The tool will tell the tale to insure the adjusters are not messed up. I’ll admit I welded those gussets, very first welding attempt. Yes it looks bad but it’s stuck really good, well I couldn’t knock them loose with a BFH.
But I want to ask you I had the 5000 back in the day , now I have a tundra I was looking I was going to do the 9000 are you happy with them , my buddy has gone with those fox or kings with that separate resovore to me those are over kill unless you are hauling in like Baja 1000 , so 9000 good ? yeah just adjusted them to your liking. start with setting #4 or #5 and work from there either going softer or firmer.

These shocks would allow you to adjust the ride, you could run them on the softest setting which would be softer than an OEM factory ride.
Clockwise to firm them up, that's the part I keep forgetting, so I wrote it on the shock with a sharpie.

Setting 3-4 are pretty much OEM style ride, so yes just go for a ride and dial it in as needed. Thanks for watching

That’s correct! The knob stops at 9 which is the firmest setting (full clockwise). Yes you can work your way back from there.

How did these shocks compare to your old Bilstien
I thought the Bilstiens were too harsh or firm. These worked well for getting a softer ride.

shocks do not lift a vehicle, you would need a proper lift kit for lifting the vehicle to improve ground clearance.

Hi Ken, I don’t tow with these shocks but if I did I would start out on the stiffest setting and work my way down to softer settings.

I use pliers to adjust mine. But that tool looks useful if you adjust them regularly. I only adjust mine every few months.
Seems like pliers would tear up the Plastic knob after a few times.

What is the best setting to get more rebound damping? 2000 Silverado rides like a bucking bronc on these stupid CA scalloped freeways.

@KansasItalianCity for a daily driver likely no. If living in the “rust belt” area I would pack the adjustment knobs full of grease.

Rancho RS9000XL RS999845 Suspension Strut - got a new set. The number is 9 on the right side of the ridge. Also on these new shocks there is no arrow on the shock body. No biggy. The tool is necessary. I can't get them to turn to all detents by hand but have hand/finger issue(s). The tool will tell the tale to insure the adjusters are not messed up. 4/5 is similar to OEM and for me with my Jeeps weight I thought 6 felt good on the road.

Yes they worked great. Rancho had me replace them with their new MS7RT which I like better.

I’ll admit I welded those gussets, very first welding attempt. Yes it looks bad but it’s stuck really good, well I couldn’t knock them loose with a BFH.
These are fake it a just a threaded piece of plastic that goes into a hole in the shocks they rust up after a year

But I want to ask you I had the 5000 back in the day , now I have a tundra I was looking I was going to do the 9000 are you happy with them , my buddy has gone with those fox or kings with that separate resovore to me those are over kill unless you are hauling in like Baja 1000 , so 9000 good ? Thnks
