      The male deity part is highly unlikely as most older gods are female and were converted to male as patriarchy usurped social/political/religious power over time. About the queerbate-y concept. Yes people can definitely falsely claim to be queer or only openly talk about it for views. But personally, I just see it as good marketing. It isn’t easy to keep up with what’s popular. (Not saying being queer is a trend, just that it’s popularly recognized) And in some places it can be confusing which audience would be better to please. For example, my grandma sews hand towels and aprons. She consistently watches the basketball ball teams for whatever area she plans on selling her product at. Then she will use the more popular team’s logo on the hand towels and aprons, then sell them. She’ll talk for hours and hours about how much she loves the popular team to each customer, and will refer back to parts of the game she watched. She’s lying. But to make that lie happen it took a lot of damn work. And it works. So for me, watching queerbate-y content is not an issue for me as long as it’s entertaining.

    • @friendlymachine9667
      @friendlymachine9667 3 роки тому +8

      @@sammmmmp1455 right right, I guess, I just think sometimes a lot of the same problems apply to cultural appropriation sometimes, although usually not as bad. I don't think it's appropriate for somebody to use being queer as a marketing strategy and not suffer through the marginalization that queer people have and do suffer through. This is true especially with things dealing with gender, as trans people are being murdered at a terrifyingly high rate. I do think it's a big deal, and it's insensitive. Although then again, I have a kpop pfp what do I know?

      @@eldritchabomination9726 hey!! I don’t mind at all. I did a lot of research just recently, and what I found is essentially what Jess said ☺️☺️. They were often considered spiritual leaders of sorts, passing on cultural traditions typically in the form of chants and hulas. Most commonly they were what we would now consider trans women (mtf) and always honored in society, usually taking the role of a priest. It wasn’t until Christian missionaries came during 1820 that they were shamed from society and went mostly into hiding. Just to clarify, I’m not Hawaiian, just go to school in Hawaii (I’m mostly French, Irish, and Italian), so this was a totally foreign concept to me until a couple weeks ago!! I would totally recommend doing more research into the topic if you’re interested. Though hard to come by, the information on it is fascinating. Hope this helps at all!! Although, my friend is the first person that isn't cis/straight (or so we thought) in the family so they were nervous. Like bi, or trans, nonbinary is both an umbrella term and its own seperate entity. Trans means you dont identify with your assigned sex, meaning people who are nonbinary are trans, though not every nonbinary person identifies with being trans. Then there are people content with just "I am not a guy, or a girl, and that's that" they are nonbinary. Then there are other people who feel the need to be specific about their nonbinary identity and thus you get genderfluid, gendeflux, juxera, proxvir, demigender (another umbrella term refering to demiboy, demigender, and demigirl), quoigender, bigender, agender, and many more.

    As a many personned entity, we appreciate the use of they/them. Some of us are female. So are male. Some are both. Some are neither. Some aren't people. Some are older and care for some who are younger. We get along. We call ourselves a constellation, each member is a star.

      I have different people in my body(I don't even know if all of us are human) but we Feel sort of uncomfortable with using we/us because that just isn't what we grew up listening to. I'm pretty sure 70% of us think we're all insane still.
      It's sort of like our body is a ship/space craft and we each take turns guiding it while the others offer advice and support.
      I'm so glad we're not crazy. We're so glad that someone else relates to us in this, we're glad we're not alone

      @@the_demon_cat337 Yep, her name was Dorothy Parker, an author, poet, and outspoken critic. She was well known in some sections of the community at the time, and was even brought in for questioning by the government at one point to try and get her to give up her contacts. She never did though and just gave them the run around.
      Her support of left wing politics and association with people society deemed wrong got her on a lot of black lists back in the day.
      "Friend of Dorothy" did also come to be associated with the Wizard of Oz too though as it spread in the community, so that part is partially correct.

    with the "wouldn't that make you cis?" one, I can relate, but in a different way, I came out as non binary because I wasn't quite sure I was trans yet because I love wearing dresses and skirts as much as I love wearing suits, and my dad saw me ordering a medieval dress online and asked if that would make me a girl, I explained that gender identity is not gender expression, and he said he only asked because he wanted to make me strong and wanted a good answer for me to say if someone is being homophobic/transphobic to me or anyone else, he still teases me about my gender sometimes and when I first came out he would say "They" instead of saying my name when getting me to do something, but he's learning how to be respectful to trans and non binary people and so is my mom and I'm happy for that
