In Greek mythology the default sexuality was bisexual. Apollo had I think 11 male lovers and Poseidon had 2 boyfriends named Pelops and Nerites.
Cool
Ah yes. Nerites, the god of being turned into a shrimp.
Wow, 11? I expected WAY more for Apollo.
@@michaelkriston8477 Well, that's just the ones we know of, since they're the most prominent ones. I bet there were a lot of localized myths like "Our King once slept with Apollo, so Apollo gifted us with the best fate" or some stuff like that as well, they just didn't survive long enough to be known today. That's definitely something an ancient Greek King would claim, I think.
Aphrodite had a lot of female lovers, too

More fun facts about Ishtar: One poem describes her as having a beard, she has both a husband and a girlfriend, and the etymology of her name suggests that she used to be an older male deity
The male deity part is highly unlikely as most older gods are female and were converted to male as patriarchy usurped social/political/religious power over time. The fact that One Topic, a straight cis male, makes these videos, and he somehow makes it feel genuine and not patronizing or queerbate-y, is so comforting to me. He just seems like a dude who really enjoys making others feel included. Also, he has all the vids for charity towards a great organization too. He just seems so pure! A true ally!
About the queerbate-y concept. Yes people can definitely falsely claim to be queer or only openly talk about it for views. But personally, I just see it as good marketing. It isn’t easy to keep up with what’s popular. (Not saying being queer is a trend, just that it’s popularly recognized) And in some places it can be confusing which audience would be better to please. For example, my grandma sews hand towels and aprons. She consistently watches the basketball ball teams for whatever area she plans on selling her product at. Then she will use the more popular team’s logo on the hand towels and aprons, then sell them. She’ll talk for hours and hours about how much she loves the popular team to each customer, and will refer back to parts of the game she watched. She’s lying. But to make that lie happen it took a lot of damn work. And it works. So for me, watching queerbate-y content is not an issue for me as long as it’s entertaining.
@@sammmmmp1455 right right, I guess, I just think sometimes a lot of the same problems apply to cultural appropriation sometimes, although usually not as bad. I don't think it's appropriate for somebody to use being queer as a marketing strategy and not suffer through the marginalization that queer people have and do suffer through. This is true especially with things dealing with gender, as trans people are being murdered at a terrifyingly high rate. I do think it's a big deal, and it's insensitive. One of the happiest discoveries I made in the past few years is not just that Rick Riordan exists but that he and I share a birthplace and hometown, which I think is so beyond cool because I'm so accustomed to that place being a great big nothing burger. So the fact that it's become known in the 21st century for being the place where some pretty cool people come from (Riordan, Summer Glau, Jared Padalecki, Michelle Rodriguez, James Roday, and Pedro Pascal, amongst others) makes me think that maybe there was something there that could encourage greatness and maybe I can be the next cool person to come from that place.

In Sweden we have "han" (him) and "hon" (her), but we also have "hen".
(Yes, it is pronounced like the animal)
"Hen" is gender neutral. It is used when referring to a person of unknown gender, when gender is irrelevant, when gender is to be made unclear, or as a substitute for typing "him/her".
"Hen" is used exactly like you would use him/her, it even has other forms just like "hon"/"han".
Han: Him/he
Honom: Him/he
Hans: His
Hon: Her/she
Henne: Her/she
Hennes: Hers
Hen: Him/her
Henom: Him/her
Hens: His/hers
Alright, Time to move to Sweden
In Dutch we have 4 different words that we have to juggle,
Which all take the place of a singular non-binary pronoun,
But none of them are a non-binary singular pronoun.
This makes it so that some sentences are literally impossible to say without addressing someone's gender.
In France, we had to invent new words (a gender neutral pronoun, for starter) and a new way to write to be inclusive.
So the government banned it from official papers and School, because of course that's the most urgent question in a period of pandemic :D
@@krankarvolund7771 I mean French has a history of banning words,
But eventually they're gonna introduce something that means the same but is somehow even more French than what the French people came up with.

Like bi, or trans, nonbinary is both an umbrella term and its own seperate entity. Trans means you dont identify with your assigned sex, meaning people who are nonbinary are trans, though not every nonbinary person identifies with being trans. Then there are people content with just "I am not a guy, or a girl, and that's that" they are nonbinary. Then there are other people who feel the need to be specific about their nonbinary identity and thus you get genderfluid, gendeflux, juxera, proxvir, demigender (another umbrella term refering to demiboy, demigender, and demigirl), quoigender, bigender, agender, and many more.
"Who feel need to be more specific" WHY DID THAT SENTENCE RESONATE WITH ME SO MUCH, prolly cause im genderfluid...

It's sort of like our body is a ship/space craft and we each take turns guiding it while the others offer advice and support.

with the "wouldn't that make you cis?" one, I can relate, but in a different way, I came out as non binary because I wasn't quite sure I was trans yet because I love wearing dresses and skirts as much as I love wearing suits, and my dad saw me ordering a medieval dress online and asked if that would make me a girl, I explained that gender identity is not gender expression, and he said he only asked because he wanted to make me strong and wanted a good answer for me to say if someone is being homophobic/transphobic to me or anyone else, he still teases me about my gender sometimes and when I first came out he would say "They" instead of saying my name when getting me to do something, but he's learning how to be respectful to trans and non binary people and so is my mom and I'm happy for that
