    OMG... They hid the alert setup in the Marine Setup menu! See why I say that Garmin software engineers are not particularly good at user interface design. Yes, I get it. They have years and years of old spaghetti code they are attempting to be backwards compatible with. But they are the leading vendor in their market, and I believe they should be making a much bigger effort with user interface design.

      A lot of us have been letting Garmin know about this issue, so hopefully they will fix it.

    Go to routing menu and turn course alerts on. Hope that helps. Do you know any books or websites that offer a directory of waypoints that you could navigate to? Thank you.

      Thanks for the tip. I see you can turn on course alerts in the Routing Menu, but you cannot change the distance for alerting you to on-course or off-course. That setting still seems to be under the Marine Menu.
      I'll be there are books and websites with that information but I do not know of them personally.
      Thanks for the tip on the Routing Menu.

      Glad to help. To bad I can't eliminate the frustration myself, but then I learn the most when I make the mistakes.

    I've hoped that Garmin would make it easier and more intuitive for more than a decade.
    How have your conversations been with Garmin?

      They take notes and say they will pass it along. I know they want to make improvements to their gear, so I'm hopeful they are listening.

    I just purchased a 67i and took a hike and then used trac back. When I got home I looked in my waypoint manager and saw a load of waypoints I never entered. I have to sift thru through them to find the waypoints I deliberately put in through the mark button.
    This is very annoying. How can I prevent this from happening again?

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  9 місяців тому

      That must be a setting that automatically puts waypoints down but I'm not exactly sure because my 67i does not put a waypoint down unless I make a waypoint.
      I always clear my tracks and activities so I don't have a lot or those showing up on the next.
      I just got off the phone with Garmin and this technician has never seen that happen before. He wants to see a screenshot if you can get one. It would be best to contact Garmin directly about this issue as I have never seen this come up before. I will take a closer look at my 67i when I get home to see if I can figure it out.
      Let me know if Garmin helps you out on this and I'll respond back here if I find anything.

    I bought i66 in Jan 2023, but I love to have i67 as it has a better battery? From your experience how can I get i67, is there a replacement option with Garmin or something like that?

      @outdooremergencytech  Рік тому +3

      I am not sure about a replacement, but you could sell it and take the money and put it towards the 67i. It would be well worth your time and effort. The 67i's battery is exactly what they claim and the processor speed is much faster.

    Hi Rick
    I have just been on a 24hr offroad BikePacking trip with my 67i. I had course alerts turned on under tracking but the marine settings turned off. I was getting alerts within about 100m of being off track. It was alerting to the point that if the course track short cut the corner then I would get an alert mid corner.
    I used approximately 20% of battery life for this period with tracking at 10minute intervals and the odd text and GNSS so would expect about 5 days battery life. I was under dense tree cover and in a deep gulley for about half of the trip so that will chew extra battery life.
    This is my first Garmin so I am enjoying your videos to help educate me, thank you for putting in the hard yards
    Cheers Gary

      Great information Gsry. Thanks for sharing.
      I finished another navigation test today with a focus on course alerts. I was getting on and off-course alerts within 100 yards. I was concerned as I didn't see these course alerts in the past when navigating, but changing the mileage to 0.01 miles in the Marine Menu helped correct the issue.
      Thanks for the comments and information on how you use it. I'm on my 4th day of my battery test with the 67i and it's at around 40%, but that's with me using it a lot during the day, and turning it off at night. I'll be uploading the battery life video this week when the battery life dies.
      I really appreciate comments like yours, so keep them coming.

      @@outdooremergencytech If you are using marine settings, then you are missing some other setting for off course. Marine certainly matters, but those off course settings should be in a general setting and not just marine. Marine settings should be a separate setting, as you have different things to consider. Your 30 feet reference is to water depth, where it's likely looking at topo maps to determine water depth, given the depth offset you tell it based on water levels. Just some thoughts. I'm considering buying this for my dirt bike adventures, but need something very functional and easy to use...

      Thanks for the thoughts on the settings. If you want something more simple to use, yet still powerful, I would take a look at the Garmin inReach Mini 2, but you can't see maps unless you sync it to your phone. The Garmin Montana 700i would be something to consider and is meant for ATVs, etc. It's a little on the large side but that's why it's meant for off-roading. It has a large touch screen and as long as you can plug it in and power it from your dirt bike then the battery life won't be an issue.
