    Learn more here about how important it is to use the MapShare link so people can message you first ua-cam.com/video/QNDqqCR965Q/v-deo.html.

    Good morning Rick. Thanks for all the wonderful vids! Sorry if I missed one but is there a vid on what the "end user" will see and how best to see it when you send a "MapShare"? I'm having issues when I send one, the person has issues following along on their phone. What is the best view option?? Hopefully this is clear?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Just wondering does it automatically refresh new messages or will I have to manually go into the inreach and refresh the message? (Basically just wondering if it can be used like regular messaging on my phone where when the other sends a message if it will automatically come through)

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  4 місяці тому

      There may be a setting to fetch messages only when you request messages, but the default set up is they will come through automatically.

    Maybe I missed it, but can you manually type in a phone number in the field and send it to someone, or do all the numbers need to be setup ahead of time. Maybe another hiker needs to send a message to his wife on the trail.

      Yes you can type in a phone number and you don't need it in your contacts.
      When you go to MESSAGES and select NEW MESSAGE, then TYPE MESSAGE, and hit the ENTER button when on the "TO" screen. Now you can enter a phone number.
      I tested this last night to make sure it would go through and it worked for me. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Glad I could help. It really is my number 1 satellite communicator. Don't make the mistake of going for the 66i because it's cheaper. The 67i is the way to go, with the inReach Mini in second place.

    Does it have any cost to send or receive messages?

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  2 місяці тому

      There are three subscription plans and the two lowest levels have a certain number of messages you can send before you are charged. The Expedition subscription plan has unlimited messages, but it also cost the most.
      There are some interesting ways to change up your subscription or suspend it, and then use the expensive one for a month or two so you have unlimited messages.
      If you want to know more about it, check out this video below where I go into detail about how to save money on the subscription plans.

    You do a great job in helping us out. Got my 67i a bit ago and it’s quite a change from my old unit.

      Glad to help. Don't hesitate to ask questions. I have a playlist on the 67i that has most aspects of the 67i broken down into smaller videos that should be easier to follow.

    I'm still getting used to the 67i and learning the tricks of the trade. Thanks for these videos. Perhaps it will come up as I go along with these videos and Garmin's but a question comes to mind. Can people message you from their phones on the 67i or can they only respond to a message you send...and if so, how do they send a message?

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  9 місяців тому

      If you contact them first, then they can message you for the next 24 hours, but it all starts over again after the 24 hours is up. The best way to deal with this is to make sure they have a MapShare link to you. In the MapShare link, whether on your phone or a computer, there will be a link that they can initiate a message to you. That is the best way and the most important thing for you friends and family to understand. Here's a link to a MapShare video that will help explain it. ua-cam.com/video/WlW87DwHA18/v-deo.html.

    Excellent video, I have Montana 600t. It's been okay , never really used the camera. Which GPS do you like better, the 750i or 67i. I do have the older yellow InReach, it's texting isn't that user friendly. In your video, the 67i is definitely easier. thank you and I enjoy your channel.

      My buddy has the Montana 750i and I have used it some but I don't own it. I'm about to get it and test it thoroughly but I can't give you as good of an opinion as I can do on the others I own.
      Here 's what I can tell you, Mike really likes the touch screen and the larger screen, but the device is so large that I wouldn't use is other than having it in my truck or on an ATV. I agree that the texting is pretty easy to get around on in the 67i, but is a whole lot easier when you sync it to your phone and type using the Garmin Messenger App.
      The Mini 2 use to be my favorite because I like the small size and how convenient it is when I use my phone, but after testing the 67i a lot, the 67i has become my go to satellite communicator. It would be hard to go wrong with the 67i. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Well, you could create quick text message directory for your phone. Simply make them in a note app or Microsoft Word, One Note, etc. Open app and copy message you wantcto send, goto garmin app, paste, and send perhaps?

      Interesting thought. I'll add that to my list to research and possibly make a video of in the future.

    I am a cyclist in Georgia. I use a Gamin 1030 Edge which has emergency tracking, considering tree cover, areas without cell service the Etracking is not very reliable. I want to continue using my 1030 edge primarily, but I am considering using a 67I as well. I'd be interested in your thoughts

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  Рік тому

      I don't have any experience with the Garmin 1030 Edge but I have tested the 67i extensively. You can see the 67i training playlist here. ua-cam.com/play/PLinHuRHy8OYcd_GBs-P4sBQW4_wnK6WZ7.html.
      The battery is solid on the 67i and I have tested it 5 different times and even with the backlight at 80% with 2 minute tracking, with the screen always on. I had 44% of the battery remaining after a 15 hour road trip, and I also was sharing the 2 minute tracks to MapShare.
      The 67i is challenging for some people because there are so many functions, but you can change the menu items around so the functions you use the most are at the top of each screen. I'm a fan of the 67i, but not the 66i, as the battery was pretty bad on the 66i.
      Let me know if you have any other questions.

    By the way, you can request to have your account put onto the preset messages still which a lot of people me included. Think are far superior than checking messages. I was able to have it done through the Garman chat on the website.
