I’ve been looking at this plugin for ages too. I use izotope’s match eq which does most of what you’ve shown here, apart from it is not dynamic! So yeah that alone makes it worthwhile. Thanks for taking time to show off an aspect of smart eq I’ve not seen anyone else mention!
A reference file can also be dragged and dropped, which is then analysed. I think this works the fastest. But I'm still not really sure whether I really need this EQ... hmm
I love my “smart limit” instead of getting the smart eq i went with the spilt eq. This plug-in has always seemed like another person with a better set of ears then mine.
Use your ears, bro! Haha just kidding, I'm 50+ with tinnitus, can't hear much past 10k. I'm gona use every tool i have to make my mix at least 'look' right!
i have smart:eq3 as well and i'm also a big fan of sonible's work in general. i usually use sonible balancer for this kinda stuff, because it's just simpler to use. sometimes i don't like what it does in specific frequency ranges but that's what bitwig's multiband container is for, right? now about smart:eq3.. it's a lot. and it manages to package all that stuff in a way that makes it seem simple. sometimes it looks a bit better than it sounds i think. some of your reference-mix-based eq curves made it quite boomy by literally reducing the entire mid range. i think that was just a bit too much. it was more than reducing boxyness. but maybe i'm not the best one to ask for such stuff because my room is not treated well and youtube's audio compression can also make it hard to listen for nuances in sound. i love smart:eq3's layering feature tho, because it automatically figures out that if certain things have a certain spectrum then other things need a complementary spectrum for both things to work together. it simplifies a process every mixing engineer would naturally do themselves by making it happen automatically leaving more time for other decisions to make
I did over-do it in some examples so it could be more obvious, the strange thing is that no adjustment was applied to the lows, rather just elements removed from the mids as per the reference and adjustments. So it didn't make the mixes any boomier, rather removed everything else and left the low more in focus (which is what the profile I created was kinda designed to do). The interested thing is take some of the top quality electronic mixes you know, pop them on a spectrum with 4.5db slope and you will see a very similar shape to the reference curve I created ;) I have referenced thousands of pro tracks, i'd say well over 90% of them are like this ;)
@@DashGlitch yeah that makes sense. mixes with a slight focus on lowend and highend instead of midrange have a more flashy effect. can make drops hitting harder and that just really sparks excitement. imo the quality of a good midrange is rather that it has the potential to make a mix impose its own character on the given genre, the part of the music that tells a story. in the case of psytrance that would be all those swirly things that you can then base the progression of your micro-dances on when being on a rave
I think you've misunderstood the L1/L2/L3. They are to auto EQ each layer so that they separate. L1 will be more prominent than L2 and so on. You wouldnt add your master into the same group as everything else
@@DashGlitch Amazing work till now. I had to repeat it several times. Really cool "minimal" full on without the typical open 909 hat. And the transition before the drums is awesome. It breaks with the boring dum du du dum sound nowadys played everywhere. Keep it up with it. Super interesting to have "melodic" parts oldschool ish style here and there. Not to mention there is already a deep melodic bassline going on. Super glitch!
this plugin destroyed my Mix to be honest. Used it once, didnt listen well enough, later when i already bonced the tracks and trew away the original i deeply regret it. The problem is that it is linear phase, and there is a Knob where you can switch to normal eualizer, it does the same things, but doesent kill your punch like linearphase does.. Imho, big warning, this sounds good at first, but months later youll regret it.
Listen to the bassy frequencies, its like they dont live nomore after this, thats cause Linear Phase.. Makes it very dead, the punch is kind of gone, the sound is less LEAN, the sound is less BIG, it becomes like the sound out a small Speaker.. its weird..
@@DashGlitch yeah, you always remind me to watch your videos of a plugin that i already watched the videos before i used it .. So, yeah, i wont really watch and listen closely for 20 minutes about it. I just wanted to tell people to watch out.. Dint know that its only the Low end in linear phase.. Wich mho is the part of the spectrum that Linear phase is most dangerous. So, i stick to it, be it in the most dangerous parts of the Spectrum or not, it is dangerous.. Its rare for me to get a good first impression about something, and later regret it, i had this two times in my life, its really tricky.. So, again, ask yourselve this, is the sound getting less Lean, the bass getting very small, And aven better, find the switch where you can put it on normal Equalizer (minimal phase). The algorythim to smothen out automatically is cool, but again, linear phase is very "very dangerous" in Audio.. Its something an absolute pro uses, and that in very rare cases.. its not something one puts on the whole master normally..Sometimes one can get way with it, but.. why "getting away". THATS MY OPPINION
No one ever ever ever has wrote a song fully preformed it produced it mixed and mastered it....if your a musician or a producer trying to get your stuff out their use this...consentrate on the music not the mixing its such a buzz kill

Very nice mix on that track. Clear but punchy.
Appreciate that
After your Smartcomp review I actually ended up buying both ❤️
You could really hear the difference in that last track. I have been thinking of trying the demo and now you have convinced me!
A reference file can also be dragged and dropped, which is then analysed. I think this works the fastest. But I'm still not really sure whether I really need this EQ... hmm
Crazy track Mr. Glitch
I put this off for ages put I was looking for some time saving tools. It's been thought out well and the work flow is better than similar plugins
Haha nice track 🙂 very Goa viby ... Keep up the good work bro

I really love this EQ, also Smart:Limit!

Great vid...must do some saving for this EQ! Cool heavy prog session at the end! \M/\M/
I am so waiting for this video and I can't wait to see it. I purchased this EQ recently and I still haven't used it, not knowing what to do with it.
#Dash Thanks for the video, it now makes sense
Have to love the idea of buying plugins without knowing what to do with them 😂

Yes, I figured that out and did edit the video and mentioned I will clarify it in a future video, thanks though!
@@DashGlitch Though putting the master in there will create some sort of dynamic eq feedback loop which might do something interesting 🤔
ive been trying to use this nutty plugin more. its kind of like creative eq coloring 🤘🏼🧐👍🏻
awesome tutorial as always glitch! when are you going to release this awesome track?
Not sure yet
Mr. Glitch 😉. What full on track is it you're presenting us in minute 09.00?
something new I am working on

thought you changed genres there for a second lol
Dash can you please tell me how do I create a reference curve for CurveEQ? Thanks.
Search on my channel “sonic matching” 😁
That is similar to Soothe 2?
Soothe is meant to kill overwhelming beeps and harshness , this reminds me more of Gulfoss
Interesting.
what daw is that?
