    I just made these and love how they turned out! I made mine in canning jar lids (wide-mouth size). Love the recipe! I followed it exactly using 2 Honeycrisp apples and 1 Granny Smith, and it tasted perfect! Thank you for sharing the recipe & video, as it was very easy to follow. If you use the canning jar lids, this recipe makes 11 mini pies.

      Smart! 👍🏻
      We tend to worry too muchabout what would work and what wouldn’t. I tried many things in baking but never jar lids! 😄👌🏻👌🏻 Say.. I always feel bad throwing away tuna cans. Are these any good for baking? Sardines tins, too?? I’m serious.

    I love reading reviews because it gives me an insight to a recipe that I can not actually sample. I am also guilty of not reviewing which I guess is not fair in a sense so here goes. I bake quite often for my husbands work. The issue is snack or finger foods that arent messy. All men on the go constantly. A snack of a few bites no plates or utensils needed. I do mainly cookies but was looking for an apple snack since it is his fav. I chose this recipe because its self contained, the size, ingredients are simple and typically what I have on hand, and cute. Minus the shortening which I just used all unsalted butter. Just sampled these with the family and give them 5 stars. The crust was ample to contain the apples and crumbs which I did slightly push into the apples before baking but not so much to flatten the look. They held together thru each bite, no crumbling or apples spilling out. They were moist but not runny or juicy from the apples so as to not compromise the crust. The crust stayed intact but was still flaky. Sweet but not icky sweet. These removed very easily from the pan. I always add extra cinnamon but thats just our choice for it to be stronger. Next time I will make extra apples, at least one but probably two. I dont find this a fault of the recipe, but maybe I precooked to long or my apples were smaller. I did get behind in the evening so I prepared the apples and crumble and placed in fridge. The next evening I did the dough crust and assembled and baked. This would work if you are doing a large batch for a party or just not enough time to do all at once. We did do a microwave test for warming up 14 secs was perfect with a small drop of vanilla ice cream. Yum

    I made this recipe last night but I added another apple and a little extra seasonings so I could make a tiny pie tin for my hubby who hates crusts. Taking the rest to the barn where I stable my horse so my friends and I can enjoy these cute little pies after our ride. They came out of the pie tin without a hitch this morning after cooling overnight in the pan. Thanks for the recipe.

    Really good!
    I made 6 mini pies (in 10 oz glass custard cups) with this recipe.
    I normally like more butter in my pie crust, so I may use my go-to pie crust recipe next time. The crust was good and flaky, but I like more butter flavor.
    I had about 1/3 of the crumb topping left, so I will make less topping next time.

    Guys, I know shortening is appetizing in pies and gives marvelous crust texture but unfortunately it’s not healthy But can definitely be substituted with healthy alternatives such as applesauce and clarified butter. I’m making this insha-Allah abd will be using 1/3 cup applesauce and 1/3 cup clarified butter for crust knowing it will be just as crispy and fragrant. As for sweetness the best thing I could suggest based on personal trials is Acacia honey. You can use maple syrup if you wish too but it’s more expensive than honey. Just keep in mind that clarified butter and honey both bake faster than refined sugars and trans fats so you might want to reduce baking times. Try it and bake smart. ☺️👌🏻
    Ps: The lady here went through the trouble of making the crust manually for people who don’t have gadgets but if you do have a food processor by all means don’t hesitate. Half the fun in baking is the easiness.

I suggest you line up your ingredients and mention the exact measures of the ingredients when you are talking and assembling the recipe. In addition, you indicated we should spray the container but mentioned it right when we are ready to add the crust. I had to pause several times to catch up on things missed. I dont have lemon juice or oranges, is it ok if I just remove that or do you have other alternatives?

    • @ShesMakinDough
      @ShesMakinDough  4 роки тому +1

      You can use a splash of apple cider vinger and a bit of water

    • @ShesMakinDough
      @ShesMakinDough  4 роки тому +1

      If you don't have that either just leave it but the tangy flavor of the lemon with the sweet of apple makes it work really well

    If i were to leave the dough foe the crust in the fridge for a few hours would it affect the recipes/outcome?

      It will not you'll just need to let it rest out a little so you can work with it

    • @ShesMakinDough
      @ShesMakinDough  3 роки тому

      It may take 10- 15 mins longer or so, you can check on it and see if it's golden brown at that time

      if you spray with non stick (or brush with oil) and let it cool completelyit should be fine you can use parchment if you'd like

      You can use store bought pie crust, the filling mat make the pastry too soggy at the bottom
