No, the Government Can’t Create Hurricanes

- We've all heard the news about the recent hurricanes in the southeast. But the surprising part is the conspiracy theories that have arisen, implying that the government deliberately manufactured and deployed them. This is totally idiotic on so many levels, the primary level being purely scientific, so let's dig into it and learn somethings about hurricanes and weather in general.

20:25 My dad has said he'd rather die than believe what scientists say. He's had an anti-establishment bias since he was a child as a result of him: failing his education at a high school level, latching onto dogmatic spiritual beliefs from his family that comforted him and having an incredibly stunted level of emotional maturity desipite being in his early 60s now. People like my dad are almost impossible to teach because you risk completely shattering their world view, which will normally send them off the rails into a fit of toddler-like rage.
Dude, that's my mom. She was 26, with two kids, when the Soviet Union collapsed. The '90s were super rough for most of the now ex-Soviet population, so this naturally set her on a path of conspiracy theories, anti-intellectualism and aggressive gun-toting imperialism. Because, duh, she used to be a part of something deemed great (by no one in the world by the late '80s), and now she was broke, poorly educated and with an uncertain future ahead of her. This backwardism eroded away her ability to think critically or use her prefrontal cortex in general over the years, so all she does these days is seek out and propagate claims that make her sound awesome to herself and lashes out with vitriol at anyone who disagrees with her. I feel for you with a dad like that.

Thanos would’ve won if he did that.
I know eugenics is bad, but can we make an exception and just not let this segment of the population breed? It's not like I want to make a super-race, I just don't want us to all die because a minority with the loudest voices are too stupid to function at even the most basic levels and the worst part, they are willful about it, they WANT to stay that stupid because social acceptance in their little hives of morons is more important to them than a stable, intelligent world.
Considering the amount of massive stupidity present in the last six years, I'm convinced this actually did happen. And of course my evidence that Thanos is real and not a character from the Avengers movie is that I read a Facebook post saying they met Thanos in real life.
The death threats against the meteorologists are what left me completely slack-jawed with disgust at the gullibility of some.
I bet a majority of those making threats still have accounts to harass the next person the right tells them to. Exactly what is wrong with social media. No one actually loses their account for literal illegal behavior.

@jeffreystewart9809 i feel you. I don't really agree with this stuff happening. It's got no feasibility in war as even with all the science we can only predict a path. Weapons need to be direct. Even if we do have secret tech(i believe we are capable of making small storms in labs, not a cat1 or 5 or tropical Spain for that matter. We can create them though. To devastate your own country. Why? Just doesn't seem feasible as a weapon unless you could form it instantly over a battlefield. It's the war on fema? South Eastern Americans? Doable in a small scale, to create it at the levels they are saying and with out the controls a lab provides vs. Out in nature. Just doesn't add up. You would need to have heating could along the entire gulf sea to even potentially change the water temperature of the ocean at will. Like 10,000 nukes as stated in the video. Point in getting at. Don't doubt the science, we do control atmospheric pressures everyday in highly controlled and monitored vehicles. We couldn't go to space without this tech. Fun fact: There's a minor error in this video: The Coriolis force is actually stronger closer to the poles. It reduces to zero at the equator. Which is why TCs generally can't form within 5 degrees of it or cross it. TCs can actually form a significant distance from the equator if conditions are right (Hurricanes, Pablo in 2019, Epsilon in 2005. etc.) The reason this is rare is actually because the baroclinicity (differences in temperature over horizontal distance) favors the formation of non-tropical cyclones. E.g. Frontal systems. Of course, The ocean temperatures are also lower up there...
I wondered about that. As you travel north from the equator, your rotational velocity decreases much faster for every degree north the closer to the pole you get. So intuitively I was thinking coriolis acceleration would be zero at the equator. The tangent of a longitudinal line at the equator is parallel to the earth's axis of rotation.
It is also incorrect to say that experimental lasers are unsuccessful at inducing and guiding lightning strikes. Hell, on the low tech end, you can launch a model rocket with a spool of copper wire and do the same. The laser just creates an ionized filament, giving the lightning an 'easy' path (basically, an artificial 'lightning leader'). They don't fire directly at the cloud (as shown in the graphic) though. It would be stupid to guide the lighting all the way into your expensive laser. Instead, they place a mirror at a safe distance, to redirect the laser beam upward. It is also helpful to measure the growing electrical potential in the atmosphere, and fire the laser (or rocket) when it's just about at the point where lightning would strike even without a 'nudge'. This sort of research is fairly routine in Florida's 'Lightning Alley'. Has been for decades by now.

Been a big fan of yours for a while Dave along with Sciman Dan and a handful of others. I love listening to your videos in the background on my headphones when I'm working. I'm an adult with ADHD and my main form of stimulation is social media, UA-cam and general internet reading for general information. I see a lot of posts, read a hell of a lot of comments and I do a lot of interacting with people on subjects like these in the form of debunking and challenging the viewpoint. It drives me to constantly further my knowledge whilst filling the stimulation void. Because I get around a lot of social media posts on subjects like this I have seen the alarming scale at which these people are increasing. It is indeed very worrying.
The amount of pages, groups and videos coming up with conspiracies, baseless fringe ideas and outlandish ideas are very troubling. What is more worrying is how strong these users believe what they read and how much they blindly believe it. But I will tell you something, there is absolutely no educating, explaining or helping them at all.
I must have interacted in comment conversation with a few thousand people over the past few years and have only ever had 1 person actually drop the belief they had and it was someone regarding that proven hoax of birds aren't real 🤦🏼♂️. I believe this is more than just blind belief or lack of understanding. I truly believe it is developing into an actual mental health issue due to how strongly they deny reality and just ignore it. Even when the truth is right in front of their face these "conspiracy theorists" still deny it.
They are sending our species backwards in intellectual terms and they are becoming a danger to society. The movie "Idiocracy" is genuinely coming true (you should really watch it!) Social media is a breeding ground for these people and it is like a drug for them. Like a drug addict they take more and more and more until it begins to dangerously affect themselves and those around them and to further the problem the algorithms are spoon feeding them this rubbish.
I appreciate the people like us that fight against this misinformation but I believe we are at a point where we are wasting our time on them now. Unless social media outlets start doing something about it then we are doomed. Up until recently I strongly advocated free speech, the right to have your own opinion and was against censorship , just like these people argue for too. However, I think we are at a point now where this isn't going to stop unless some method of censorship is actually used as a preventative measure to stop this epidemic of stupidity from spreading at the exponential rate it is. Educating them isn't working so like a disease it needs to be contained. The false sources like those doing it just for clicks and likes need to be held accountable and prevented from spreading the disease. I've seen the true scale of it and it is extremely worrying for our future.
