When I first saw episode 7, I thought the same, that Ekko was using his ability. But now I'm pretty sure everyone else who corrected me is right. It's a flashback to when Ekko and Powder played as kids (as well as foreshadowing, but only foreshadowing for the fanbase.) If you watch reactions from anyone who has not played the game, which is most people and most reactions, this scene does NOT confuse them. So it makes complete sense as a flashback. It really only appears confusing if you interpret it as Ekko using his ability because then it's not portrayed very well, and that would, indeed, confuse most viewers.
We'll know for certain next season, but I'm thinking the majority is right on this one. This is Ekko before his chronobreak.

Yeah the thing is time travel is just disproportionally strong and too important of a plot point, you don't just throw it randomly without explanation and never use it before or again. Ekko is the leader of a ragtag team of destitute underdogs and he thinks one hextech crystal will change the tide of war even though he would already have access to freaking time travel and no reason for that is given to us? And the man just witnessed 5 of his close friends being slaughtered in front of him in Ep 4 but he didn't use it then? Narratively, that makes no sense.
But now Hextech gemstones have shown up, Ekko has gotten a partner in Heimerdinger, and he has expressed interest in using hextech to help with his cause (Cait convinced him not to do it, but Cait's plan also failed miserably). I think the show is setting up his creation of time travel in the next season pretty clearly.

i agree; i think this is a case of the writers taking elements from the game and cleverly contextualizing it to fit the narrative; in this case a contrast between powder/ekko fighting when it was just fun and games and jinx/ekko in the present where the fight was in deadly earnest.

@@joelf634 He does not have time travel. Seriously, where would he have picked up time travel? Ekko's "time traveling" is both a way to frame the fight (and not actual time travel) and an Easter Egg for people who know him in the game. He's probably gonna develop time travel, especially if he has access to hextech later on, but he does not have it yet. If he did, he would have used it in Ep 4 when 5 of his friends were literally murdered before his eyes.

7:19 Silco's body has probably adapted to the gas to the point where he hardly needs an oxygen mask. Probably because he spends more time in the streets and mines of the undercity than these "Chem-Barons".
I think the point he is trying to make here is "You've lost touch with the common man and woman of Zaun, I haven't. Without me and my support, you wouldn't survive here."
40:58 actually "Pow-Pow" is the minigun, the rocket launcher is called "Fishbones".

Just to be clear, you are partially wrong about Ekko Jinx scene. Ekko doesn't have the power to revert time...yet. He just remembered how the child play went and how Jinx/Powder was shooting. So he was anticipating it. But of course this is the beginning of his journey to get the power, because he needs the hexcore to use it.
And just the detail, when he uses the power, it isn't like it never happened because he's still in present time and he's still partially affected (lost health etc.). His short clip made by Riot shows this perfectly.

This act is so powerful for me on a very personal level. First of all, I love Ekko and the Firelights as the one faction not interested in wealth or power, but rather in safety for those who need it the most. Yes, they use force to achieve that, but only so much force and they seem to avoid lethal force. Piltover and Zaun aren't heaven and hell, it's more like the division between lawful devils and chaotic demons in D&D, while Ekko represents a very human side to all of this. He's honestly my favorite character in this entire series, full stop. As for his time abilities, I think that what we saw was a kind of proto version of that, where he played it all out in his mind to find the one path to both of them surviving. That's just my opinion, though. Either way, that Dynasties and Dystopia scene is one I will watch
For episode 2, I really have to give a lot of credit to the creators for giving us the big set-piece battle that fans of League have been wanting all along... and then immediately made us feel completely guilty when they faced us with the real cost of that. And yeah...as much as Jayce and the enforcers are there to stop a dangerous drug operation... the kids who work there are justified in seeing them as the enemy. This is probably their best chance at being able to help support their families through no fault of their own... but rather because of the neglect from Piltover. Now Piltover is rocking in to take even that from them.
Lastly, with the finale, this is where the show hit home for me. My wife and my relationship degraded very substantially over the last few years, and after we hit the point of saying "You know what, this just isn't going to work," Jinx's "I used to think that you could love me the way you used to... but you changed, too. Here's to the new us," hit with devastating force. I really never expected to relate to that, but as it was coming to an end, that is when it hit. It's... interesting how much we can hurt ourselves and others trying to hold onto the way things were, when sometimes what we need to do is step back and recognize just how much both people have changed over the years.

    1)
First of all, what Silco is doing is not really gaslighting.
Gaslighting is making someone doubt their own opinion recollection of what happened, that they are wrong, most commonly by makng their argument look silly and ridiculous.
What Silco does is pretty much the opposite, instead of cinvincing her that she is wrong by lying to her, he instead reminds her of things that has ACTUALLY happened and use it to convince her that he is telling her the truth.
    2)
I dont even think he is lying, I dont really think he ever did lie to Jinx.
This will probably be quite long, Arcane is a complex show and Silco is an even more complex antagonist.
    ANYWAY...
Lying is knowingly telling things that are not true, there is premeditated intent to decieve.
Even if what you say is 100% incorrect, If YOU think what youre saying is true, thats not lying...
Thats just plain old "being wrong".
Almost everyone seem to completely miss or ignore that Silco is a very damaged individual too, he is suspicious of everyone and everything to a level bordering on Paranoia. no doubt pathological trust issues after Vanders betrayal and more than likely he has PTSD.
I dont know how someone would grow up and live under a never endinf oppression and wivila war in a lawless society where death lurks behind every corner.
This might all see far fetched.
But it all fall into place if you look at Silcos actions when Jinx is NOT around.
People often say that he is manipulating her to use her as a weapon, to gain power.
This is a very dumb and also _axiomatically_ incorrect statement and who ever thinks so has not been paying attention or is just blinded by hating Silco for what THEY think his motives are.
Silco *_defend Jinx, unconditionally and without hesitation, always_*
He does this at every turn from he pick her up.
He does this evenagainst his own crew.
They end up actually trying to assassinate him over this.
His actions regarding Jinx are THE WORST possible actions he could take if he wanted to expand his power and influence.
He even ends up sacrificing his lifes ambition, his dream, all his sacrifices cuz he cant give her up to Jayce.
And there is lirerally no reason or him to do this at that point.
He was already given Zaun, why would he need Jinx as a weapon?
There is no logical or even remotely reasonable explaination for this that does not revolve around "Silco genuinely caring for Jinx".
This is what leads me to believe that he is never actually lying to her.
Alot of the things he tells her is not correct... but I think HE believe it is.
All the things he tells her, the "gaslighting" as you called it, is not lies but Silco Projecting his own insecurities onto Jinx.
Silco could never trust Vander again, naturally Jinx cant trust Vi again.
Silco teaches Jinx violence, he thinks its the only way to break free from Pilovers oppression, so naturally he thinks its the right thing for Jinx to learn.
He "let a weak man die" to heal his trauma and build back a stronger man, so he tries to do the same for Jinx.
There is, again, no reason for him to do that other than he WANTS to be good to her.
When this happns Silco still believe Vi was dead, so its not some "attempt to kill Powder so she wont go back to Vi".
When Vi tells Jinx to remember their parents, Vander, Claggor, Milo, thats because their memory was her happy place, what kept her alive through the hell she was thrown into.
What she doesnt understand, _but Silco does,_is that Vis happy place is Powders absolute worst nightmare, all her demons of the past who have been haunting her all day every day causing her unspeakable pain.
THATS when Silco starts shouting back but hes no longer saying "shes lying" but "Dont listen to her", a subtle but quite important destinction.
The fact that he actually intend to shoot Vi is probably the most telling thing in th whole situati0n.
Silco is a master strategist and a very cunning 4D chess kind of guy.
Even if he wanted Vi dead, he would NEVER under any circumstanes do it in front of Jinx.
Thats just a whole bag of massive and dangerous risks with absoutely 0 potential gains for him.
The fact that he actually does try to shoot her is because he felt he had no choice, he needed to protect Jinx.
Im not saying that Silco was a good guy, he so very obviously is not.
But I think he wanted to be good for Jinx.
That he did what he believed was the best for her.
The problem of course is that its one broken, twisted and traumatized person trying to raise another even more broken, twisted and traumatized person.
In a sense, Silco didnt save Jinx in that allyway 7 years ago, Jinx saved Silco.
She gave him a little bit of humanity back, Even if it was just a tiny spark, and he could die as a human and a father, not a completely heartless monster.
As twisted and fakked up as it is, there is a sad kind of beauty in that.
This is just my analysis and Riot has neither confirmed or denied any the specualtions and theories (which is the smart thing to do) but my theory lines up very much with both Riots writing style AND what they HAVE confirmed were their main theme for Arcane: *Duality.*
They went miles out of their way to show both side and that they both had good and bad points and that both had logical reasons and justificaltions.
That neither was just good or evil cuz thats not how reality work, alsmot everything is various shades of gray.
They want you to be conflicted, they want you to be dissapointed by the ones youre rooting for and they want you to sometimes agree and sympathize with the ones you consider villains, cuz thats what good story telling does.
It makes no sense that they would make Silco 100& rotten to the core, he would be literally THE only thing in the show that didnt have atleast two sides.
I makes perfect sense that the ONE thing in all of this that he genuinely cared for, his ONLY redeemin quality, the one that eventually led him to ruin was her, the girl he found in the rain.
And even as he dies, after SHE shot him, there is no anger, no resentment, not even sadness in his eyes.
There is only his fatherly love for her as he spends his last words reassuring her that it wasnt her fault.
It makes him ALMOST redeemable in our eyes even tho we know he isnt which creates the emotional conflict they aim for with every key scene.
Jinx is a psychotic massmurderer, but you feel so bad for her that you wanna hug her and tell her everything wll be fine.
Cait is probably the purest good person in the show and still she commits several seriously massive felonies, impersonating an officer, forging "the presidents" signature to break a "terrorist" out of prison, trafficing military grade weapons to the underground etc, we look past all of this cuz she does it with good intent but it doesnt mean they were good or even the right thing to do.
Ironically where most people get upset with Cait is when she asks Vi in a patronizing way "what? you dont have parents" whch is clumsy an stupid of her but proabbly the least evil out of all the bad thisngs she does.
Vi wanted to prove herself and took the gang on an unsanctioned mission to an area they were forbidden to go.
She was arrogant, reckless and actually straight up disloyal to Vander, the very man who took them in and raised them.
And her arrogance and recklessness ended up gettting them all killed, and broke Powders mind.
When every sinlge person has such CLEAR strenghts AND flaws, these massive contradictions, within themselves.
Why would Silco be the only one who did not?

I agree with a lot of what you said, and I think Silco is largely motivated by genuine love and protectiveness for Jinx. However, you have to admit that at the very least, he concealed that he murdered Vander and Benzo and planned to kill Vi as well as Powder herself.
To his knowledge, Marcus killed Vi on his behalf; Mylo and Clagger died in a battle he started by abducting Vander. That information would be incredibly important and therapeutic to Jinx, who blames _herself_ for her family's deaths. Instead, he repeatedly tells Jinx that Vi abandoned her, in service of his own ends. Yes, he also believes it as sort of _emotionally_ true and feels that they have experienced parallel betrayals. He encourages that feeling in Jinx by denying her facts with which she might form a different opinion. As objective viewers, we know that he's lying, even if he partially convinces himself.
Then, when he learns Vi is alive and back in the lanes, he sets about finding and killing her hoping to keep her away from Jinx. I think this is partly out of concern for what it would do to Jinx given her feelings of guilt and trauma, but it's mostly for his own reasons. One, so that she won't oppose his rule of the undercity through shimmer, and two, because a reunion with Vi would have an unpredictable effect on an already dangerously undependable asset.
It's a complex relationship, which is what makes it so compelling. When he tells Vi that Powder/Jinx was the jewel of Vander's family, Silco is half proud adoptive parent and half gloating manipulative crime boss. Jinx says that Vi made her what she is. She doesn't know the extent of Silco's role because he kept it from her. Who can say how different that would've made the version of Vi that was "always with" her? And how she would've related differently to Silco if she were fully aware of his actions?

@derForsman Vi is not a villain, that's a nonsensical take. Parallels show her path is dangerous for sure, but she isn't villainous in the slightest.
Her desire for revenge being uncompromising is complete nonsense, and so is her not caring about the consequences. She several times gives up on her goals in the short term to prioritise long term and even when she doesn't, she thinks about it quite a bit. She offers to leave without even killing Silco. Sure revenge is important but she's ready to give it up for Jinx. And the reason why Vi failed is because everyone keeps getting in her way to prevent her from having a discussion with Jinx before Jinx loses it completely.
First it was Ekko (I don't blame him, from his perspective it makes complete sense, but he still caused this), then it was fricking Marcus (I do blame him, the man is trash in so many ways), and finally Silco (100% blame him, his codependency with Jinx was unhealthy and selfish). Makes me laugh when people think Vi doesn't try to understand Jinx too or that she tries to force her to be Powder like Silco tries to convince her to be Jinx. Silco spent 7 years worming his way into her head while Vi spent a grand total of 5 minutes with her after act 1, of course she doesn't know everything about who she is yet and is going to make mistakes but if not for everyone trying to fuck it up, that wouldn't really be a problem.
As for consequences, every single consequence we see is not only Silco's fault, but Vi literally strive to make everything better (sure her sister is her priority, but everything else she does is also for the greater good). Killing one kid? Leaving Silco in power kill innocent children every day and destroy everyone in the undercity. And the only way in which the show proves her wrong is by having Jayce does something so unpredictable that it has never happened in 200 years: Convince the council to lose a big chunk of their power. Jayce's plan would only work because of a series of converging circumstances that have never happened before. And in the end it doesn't even work just like Vi predicted, because Piltover being the power hungry trash that they are, waited for the last second to do the right thing and the last second ended up being too late.
Also that's a complete misreading of the intentions of the writers here. Vi and Cait are being written in contrast with Vander/Grayson (both well meaning but with a huge power imbalance both in favour of Grayson in their relationship, but in favour of the council overall with Grayson being beholden to them) and in contrast to Silco/Marcus (with the balance being the inverse of that of Vander/Grayson and the relationship also being explosive). Vi and Cait are being set up as the balance the past two pairs couldn't reach, there is no "villain origin story" here.
