Like some other folks in the comments, the weird dreamlike nature of the movie plus Angus Scrimm being so darned good at 'unsettling and creepy' as the Tall Man meant this movie SUPER freaked me out when I was young. I refused to look at the ceiling for a month when I was in bed because I just knew he'd be there.
In my opinion this was one of your BEST reviews, cudos.
These jokes are so perfect, lol. I can't stop laughing.
Rest in peace Angus Scrimm. He did a fantastic job as the Tall Man.
This was actually the first horror movie I ever saw and will always hold a special place in my heart.
I saw it on cable as a kid. I was mesmerized by it because it wasn't a your typical horror movie of that era. The "it's all a dream" thing was kinda out in left field and disappointing/confusing. But it's still a favorite.
I've always liked the musical score to this movie. I remember when me and my friends was watching this movie back and we were in high school and we saw this how freakishly strong The Tall Man was when he did scooped up that ⚰️ by himself.
Oh my god.. 'Diplomatic immunity!' got my sides hurtin' lol. Thank you!
This movie terrified me as a kid. It was at a Halloween sleepover at my first watch. I know it's nostalgia, but I love this movie.
I was wondering why the box scene felt so familiar when I watched this I remember now dune!😂
I kept hearing „Doom“ and thought “the game doesn’t have a box!”
It’s indeed a Happy Friday when Newbee posts!
Damn u Tom! Roflmfao!! I spit Orange Crush all over my phone when u said "and probably a tender lover"!! Roflmfao!!! This is one of my favorite Movie franchises bro! I glad u riffed it. Tyty!
My mother always spoke of this movie as one of her favourite horror movies. Never got to watch it. Thank you for the review.
Gymkata my Dude! Great review of a great movie. Enjoyed the Riffs, you are so much fun!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think I’ll skip this film but glad to have your review! 😂 as always your jokes are hilarious and Doakes “surprise Mfer” is never not funny to me.
Your jokes absolutely crack me up 😂 such a great channel, keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
R.I.P Angus Scrimm he always be the tall man.
Ha pasado un año desde que vi tus videos, se echaban de menos
Oh fuck yeah! My favorite movie on my favorite channel?
Omg those glorious floofs!! Such lovely babies!
Love these movie. And most of Don Coscarelli movies. I highly suggest Bubba Hotep, great Bruce Campbell movie. And John Dies at the End was so good we bought all the books.
Thank you for the new content!
This movie traumatized me so much when I was a kid that I'm still affraid of the tall man to this day and I haven't been able to watch this movie again ever since because I'm affraid if I do things will go weird and the tall man will get me.
Phantasm turns 45!
Rewatched it on Amazon prime video
A creative and artful and gothic horror movie
It perfectly captures the terror and absurdity of childhood nightmares almost plays out like a hazy memory of a paranoid fantasy
So much of the visual imagery has dreamlike sequences and vivid colors
What's funny is that this makes so many references to other sci-fi stories of the era
The Tall Man himself is mysterious and unsettling along with the lighting, the shadows
Plus the tone of the movie are very creepy
Although it's not very scary but still cool
Not to mention the death spheres are slick, too
Fred Myrow's synthesizer score works to great effect complimenting the complex themes throughout such as teenage fears, mourning, loss, and confronting death
Mike is pretty good as the protagonist but I like his brother more since they both share that strong bond that gets them through defeating the evil mortician, in a way it might even be an exploration of a grieving child's psyche as a coping mechanism given the final scene at the end
Low budget and only 89 minutes but has such imaginative dream like quality
It's worth a watch after all this time even if the plot goes from mere camp to ridiculousness and the acting is stiff in spots
It's a shame the actor Angus Scrimm as the villain himself passed away in 2016 at 89
But he made a memorable boogeyman in horror
It’s interesting because Dune (the book) came out before Phantasm, but Phantasm (1979) was before the Dune movie (1984).
Ted: "Whooah!"
Hilarious riffview, one of your best
Eventually we get the quadruple barrel shotgun.
I love that quad shotty. Hemi Cuda became my favorite car after being terrified by this movie as a kid.
That Batman cliffhanger riff was so en pointe! 😘🤌🏻
First time I saw that joke was in the Pogo comic strip (the 1980s reboot, unfortunately) when Albert Alligator was playing a "Batman" character. In the last frame, his tail was being burned by the bad guy and the narration box says, "Is this the end of our hero's end?" and at the bottom it says, "Next Week: Of course not!"
I've been watching those old 1940s superhero serials lately, and every time one of those cliffhangers comes on, I repeat that Pogo joke (Plot twist: I live alone)!
Dream endings are a let down but your reviews are great!
dont know how you feel about movie suggestions but i would love to see you review motel hell. its a lot of fun.
Omg that Pinto hearse joke got me!
@9:26 Wait it's bad for them? I've been doing it to my cat up until now that he's an adult cat.
Guess I learn something...
Yeah they generally get too heavy for the scruff. #catdaddy
"I'm 13 ! I need that hand" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Wait, this whole movie was a dream or..." theNewBee
"The dream is collapsing." *Inception Brrrrr...*
Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
I love this movie but I love the sequels even more
The lore of this movie was pretty interesting. I regret watching all the sequels hoping they'd add something to it.
Omg you are the best!!!
It's all about family
Mr. NewBee, may I request a Jacob's Ladder review? :+)
I found the story of the movie hilarous, i cant take this like terror.
Definitely a new fav!
I watched this movie four times as a kid, but even after theNewBee's review I have no memory of it other than the silver ball and Tall Man, including the Ewok wearing the monk's outfit running through the cemetery: Phantasm is forgettable😏
With all of the jokes you made in this review, you didn't make a joke about the name of the bar at 4:19 the name of the bar is Dunes Cantina, at 4:23 were mark is about to have s*x the sign next to him says "parking in rear"
Boy!!!!
what a great movie. the car is awesome
It surely did "thrill me"
Go see Megan and do a review ! love the in the car post movie reactions!!
But was he alien? the later installments call this into question.
If you think about it any box could be filled with vibrators.
Took me a second to get that, but when I did: 🤣🤣🤣
"Kevin Hart"?....🤣
That was lit!
Dune.
BOOOOYYY!!!!
Ur getting dune confused with Flash Gordon.
Worst dad jokes ever!
Good old Knight Rider music. Love it!
You don't hassle the Hoff!
