  • This video is for those of you who ever wondered what step parents go through or you may have found yourself being one. There's not many UA-cam videos about this topic. I would like to change that. Step-parenting is becoming very common. It is a very hard job and sometimes we need to vent, we need advice, or sometimes we need to feel not so alone in this. Let's create a discussion here in the comments. I would love to make more videos like this one and I encourage others to make them as well. Share your stories with me I would love to talk :)

    Thank you for the video.
As a sept mom, you sometimes feel lonely when you can't relate to anyone around you. A stepfamily dynamic is so much more complex than an intact biofamily but it is incredible how it makes you grow.

I appreciate the video. It is nice to not feel alone as being a partner of a person with a child and to hear someone else talk about it. Thank you.

Please do more of these! I stumbled upon your page and it is everything I was looking for and needed
I don't see sooo many realistic positive examples of blended families.... outside of some celebs with big bank accounts that live a rare & different lifestyle than the average person and possibly makes facing the challenges easier. Idk ... but I am happy to have stumbled upon you. Keep at it

Thank you for the comment. I actually am no longer with Willow's father. We broke up two years ago. i do still see her through her grandma. it has not been easy but I have healed a lot since then. I have not done any more of these videos because I guess I do not consider myself in that role now. I see her when I am allowed or convenient for her parents...

An adult is a adult, you listen to the adult in charge regardless of their title. A student minds their teacher, a child minds their babysitter ECT ECT. Stop giving these little monsters rule over your home!!

As a stepdad ur either the hero or hated... I did it for 12yrs I took care of kid since she was in diapers once she was 14 her mom had the who cares attitude so the kid at age 14 only needs me for taxi service cash ATM and I'm not important now.. cash and need a ride was it...I tried to be the best father I could be as her bio father was in n outta prison.. SO after all those years she flipped the script.. I left her mother and her... Couldn't be happier....

I think this is a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your experience. You've done a wonderful job of proceeding with caution and placing the child's best interest at heart. A parent, any and all variation of parent must be patient and understanding and learn not to take things personal.

I am having a problem with my step daughter after getting in a relationship with her father and he has full custody. I have a son and he is 3 years and its hard because my son always sees her not listening and talking back ect. If i try to talk with her positive she just ignores and screams at me or hits me she is 8 years old and craves attention and always negative about things like i give my son things and she gets nothing & when i spend time with her dad she gets mad because she wants my attention. I ask her many times to respect me and listen but she wont listen and i don't discipline her at all, i ask her to go in time out and she will not go and laughs about it. I try to discuss things with her dad but he ignores it and does not want to deal with it

thanks for the video, but I have to say that its different when you get married. I got married 3 years ago now and I got my step kids 2 boys at ages 8 & 9. now they are 11 & 13 and its so hard! I don't have kids of my own so I always feel like I just don't have that personal connection with my kids.

Thanks, this helped a lot. I’m also childless by choice. I think my biggest take away is to not react. Either don’t react at all or make a point to react positively.

What is the custody like, split or joint or what? My boyfriend is trying to get full custody and I was wondering how hard that process is for the dad to get full custody. LOVE this video and your advice thank you!!

Hi I actually am no longer in this relationship so things have changed greatly. I do still see Willow. Her mother and I are great friends now and I am also civil with her father. They both have been supportive in me seeing her still. Her father ended the relationship late last year. We had visitations mostly on weekends but also week to week in the summer time. I am glad that you like the video. Honestly each state is different. For instance in Oho I was allowed to choose my home when I was 8 going on 9 years old, some states require the child to be a teenager. In order for dad to win custody usually the mother has to be seen as unfit. I am friends with a man whose ex wife was on very hard core drugs and sold a lot of his son's belongings and several times had him in a car with no safety seat and a lot of bad choices... it took him years to get custody and it seemed he was always in court fighting it. That was in Ohio so again each state varies. I would consult a lawyer in your state, it is a very hard battle I hear but if you guys feel the child is unsafe and things then I would definitely try. Thank you for watching dear I will have a life update video soon about miss Willow if you are curious :)
